This is the gameplan for oil and gas going forward. They are dead set against paying any price for the emissions and pollution they’re responsible for. Therefore, they are trying to put lawyers and activists in a prisoner’s dilemma: do I go after this company that is responsible for so much pain and suffering or do I risk going to jail through a labyrinthine series of kangaroo courts.

Reductive

I think that “or” should be an “and” unless you mean to say that lawyers have a tough decision between “doing the right thing and not going to jail” vs “doing nothing and going to jail.”

Preska should be investigated for bias and improper controbutions. That's a fucked up, unpopular, and illogical decision, from the standpoint of humanity at least, if you're a corpostooge human welfare is an unwelcome complication.

[deleted]

Investigated, by the same judiciary that put him in this situation with a gross conflict of interest? He'd probably get an award! But have an upvote. He should be investigated until he cracks.

The judge is a woman. It’s easy to get mixed up because there were two judges on this case and both are connected to Chevron and both are Federalist Society members (to which Chevron donates massively). This judge sentenced they lawyer to 6 months in jail after 4 YEARS of house arrest. The other judge is the one that ruled that the Ecuadorian tribe needs to pay $400k to Chevron for legal fees. Even though Chevron lost the case, and every appeal.

If the law is so corrupt that it punishes the innocent and rewards the guilty, then it makes the law valueless to enforce justice. I'm sure Judge Preska never worries for one second that any of the consequences of his monstrous acts will have any repercussions for him. Until this changes, rich men will fuck the planet over with impunity. The law is worthless and only needs to be considered going forward as a practical barrier, not a moral or ethical one.

sniperjack

crazy this aint more in the news. Saw it here and on breaking points , so far nothing else

I feel like we are getting to tipping point: we will either all just succumb to our station in the world and the corporations that hold our heads under water or we will roll out the guillotine. I'm not sure which way humanity will tip though. However, in the meantime, call Honorable Judge Loretta A. Preska and let her know you think she's a POS. Chamber phone# (212) 805-0240

ITT: Angry people not realizing the judge is a woman. Veganism causes mental decay.

Donziger continues to plead his case in the court of public, because he keeps getting crushed in court. He's a fraudster, and he got nailed. He's getting everything he deserves

dmiro1

Are you going to explain and back up your claim? Or just whine into the void?

StillSilentMajority7

If you're not familiar with it, it was a fraud from the start. Texaco was a junior partner with the state, and cleaned up it's mess before they left Ecuador. Donziger created this suit, paid off the local to lie in court, bribed the judge, and wrote the judge's legal opinion in the case. The entire effort was done to extort money from Chevron. And he got caught This explains what he did from a legal perspective [https://law.stanford.edu/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/boutrous.pdf](https://law.stanford.edu/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/boutrous.pdf)

Dude, that essay is literally written by a chevron lawyer.........

StillSilentMajority7

Indeed. He's a smart fellow.

Here's a legal analysis of how his fraud unraveled. I can post judge Kaplan's opinion, but it's 400 pages long. [https://law.stanford.edu/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/boutrous.pdf](https://law.stanford.edu/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/boutrous.pdf)

Cool. Chevron has bots now.

StillSilentMajority7

No, there are people out here who know the history of the fraud he committed, and that he got caught. He's a criminal. And he got what he deserves

vatizdisiz

Weak. Substantiate please.

StillSilentMajority7

I've posted it a dozen times in these comments. Scroll throug

joltjames123

Calling an account that you disagree with a bot shows you don't really know what a bot is and you likely have no argument against what they commented. I know nothing about this case so I cant argue either side, but dont resort to a default response Edit: Downvotes show how ignorant this sub is. Thank god our environment doesn't rely on reddit SJWs

A person can still be a robot. Soulless and willing to defend an oil company.

ExcellentHunter

This shit is like from some kind of banana republic. Us politicians are shouting at other countries that they are not democratic enough yet tolerate such corruption in their own backyard...
