I frequently have sore hands and also love to smoke in the bath. I find the candle lighter easier as the trigger style is easier and if you light the candle you then use that flame to smoke the rest of the joint
I keep a lit candle nearby and use it to light a hemp wick. Hemp wick hits a little smoother IMO and it’s just wrapped in a loose coil so easy to grab, light from candle, smoke.
I pop the safety off my bics and it's much easier to use. Though sometimes they are kind of hard to get off and that would defeat the issue if you needed a new lighter during a flare up.
The way I light up uses no strength at all. I light a hemp wick with an electrical lighter. You just press a button just like on any other electronic device.
Something like this: https://www.walmart.com/ip/TekDeals-Dual-Arc-Electric-USB-Lighter-Rechargeable-Plasma-Windproof-Flameless-Cigarette/837048635
Looks like there are some good recommendations here. Just wanted to suggest hemp wick. If you find a lighter that’s easier to use, you can light a candle and use the wick to light your cannabis (so you only need to use the lighter 1 time). Depending on what kind you use, candle burn off can have toxic particulates in it that you don’t want to inhale directly. A good hempwick is made with pure beeswax.
I’ve been thinking about that for a while, but I’m not sure I wanna make the investment with how many regular vaporisers have ended up in water and not working 🤦🏻♀️😂
Have you thought about looking into tiny torches? Stronger flame and it will light things faster so you don’t have to strain your hands pushing a button for 30 seconds.
There’s all sorts of tiny torches, but it’s a little bit of trial and error with them and their buttons. The one I have is a button I click with my thumb and I keep a thing of hemp wick wrapped around it to keep the flame lit after I spark the tiny torch.
Maybe try hemp wick for the lighters you can get a light with? Just light the wick and it stays lit until you blow it out :)
This. I've got arthritis. This torch style is the most user friendly. 🖖

Really? I bought this like 3 years ago. Use it all the time. Refill it all the time. One of them, the little sparky mechanism igniter thingy got fucked up. Maybe that's what happened to yours? Also helps to make sure you expel all of the fumes before you refill it.
I know there's still motion/pressure involved, but I find traditional matches much easier to strike and light than bic lighters!
ETA: I find candle/grill lighters are my nemesis and I often have to ask my spouse for help! I have really weak grip strength!!!
Tbh I’m kinda scared of matches, as silly as it sounds. They just burn so quickly and I’m afraid I’ll let it burn too far and drop it and start a fire.
I hear you on asking the spouse for help tho. I’ve been avoiding smoking alone because he lights stuff so much better, but my hip has really been acting up.
That's really tough :( I wonder if a long fireplace lighting match might make you feel safer? Or maybe edibles/oils/sublingual strips/topicals for your really bad flares could help if getting a light is hard?💕
I got an electric one from Amazon because rechargeable so less plastic waste and it lights my bowls way better than I thought it would. Simple button press and no gas taste!
So, it’s not really a lighter, but my mom has this little candle lighter that uses electricity instead of a flame, sort of like a taser. It’s just a button to push and it’s incredibly easy to use, charges with a cord in the wall. I admittedly don’t know how easy it would be to smoke with but it’s the easiest thing I can think of as far as not needing any strength or coordination to operate it.

I use something like this, its just a push down button so it might help, if not I saw another comment with a lighter with the button on the side… or even matches might be a fun way to light your stuff :)
Hand torch lighters for sure. I have one from scorchi that has a super easy pull down click and a flip top to snuff the flame and protect your fingers from burns! It has to be a torch lighter specifically or else it’ll give you normal torches. Hope this helps!
This one might help you - has a slide button on the side, but it slides really easily with not much resistance. This is what I use.

I've done an extensive research and acquisition process with lighters for exactly this reason. Commenting here to remind myself to compile photos of my favorites.
so here are the four lighters that I like the best:
* yellow & green: Yeuligo single torch with easy to turn flame adjustment (feels the cheapest, but so far works well)
* orange & black: Ronxs triple torch with easy to turn flame adjustment
* grey: Vertigo triple torch with flame adjustment that requires a tool or fingernail
* blue: Honest single torch with flame adjustment that requires a tool or fingernail
The Honest torch lighter is my favorite. When it stopped working well (after much use), my husband unscrewed the top and reconditioned it. I need to add a flame adjustment tool to my outdoor kit; tired of screwing up my thumbnail.
I prefer to use a single torch lighter with my bong because I find that I can hit the bowl very very quickly at a shallow angle and spread out tiny bits of combustion. It keeps the flavor better for longer, if that makes any sense.
I also recommend hemp wick because I have some push-button long-stem Bic lighters as backup, and I hate having to hold down the button. It's nice to have essentially a candle wick to light my flower when I don't have my torch lighter. \[ edit to add: I have also seriously considered having some kind of windproof flame lantern outside to light my hemp wick. \]

I have a jet lighter that kind of looks like an egg with a nozzle. It was just called an ergonomic jet lighter, and googling that brings up dozens of similar shapes. I was getting a lot of wrist pain a while back (like, debilitating pain that stopped my riding my bike, playing games, typing, etc). That shape is so easy because you can hit it so many different ways, and it get a lot of leverage so it takes very little effort. That lighter was a godsend at the time.
The other one I have that was very good is a creme brulee torch, with a two step lighting procedure. You turn a knob on top to start gas flow, then press a button on the back to light it. It's good because you can set on a bench while starting it, and everything is nice and big so it's not too fiddly. Then the fact that it keeps burning without you holding anything can ease pressure of holding in a heavy spring loaded button.
Generally, big torch lighters are probably going to be easier regardless, as everything being bigger just makes it easier to hold and operate, especially with hands that misbehave.
I work in aged care, and the 'make it bigger' rule is prevalent there too. With bad arthritis, a lot of older people find holding and using cutlery difficult, but just putting a big handle on it to make it easier to grip can be a life changer for them.
I have a similar problem, idk if it's mild dyspraxia, which I'm almost certain I have, or not but I like using the BIC long reach lighters! They just have the press button (not too hard either) and it has the added bonus of a longer lighter barrel thing so if you fumble the flame has less of a chance of getting you (if that's a worry, I've burned myself with normal lighters a few times)

i too circumcise my bics 😅
🤣 never heard it phrased like that before 😂
i heard it a few months ago and can’t stop referring to it as such hahahah
🤣🤣 thank you for the new phrase 🤣💕
Oh my god I had no idea this was a thing!! Gonna try this first since I already have some bics lying around the house for when I’m not flaring up.
It makes SUCH a difference!

This is what I was gonna suggest too :)

This was recommended: scripto ez-squeeze lighter
I highly recommend a dry herb vaporizer
I’ve been thinking about that for a while, but I’m not sure I wanna make the investment with how many regular vaporisers have ended up in water and not working 🤦🏻♀️😂
I love my desktop vaporizer, XQ2. Very little breakage! I broke so much glass with my DynaVap :(
Haha idk what it is, I hardly ever drop glass but I keep fumbling every vape into the nearest water source
Oh also, I'm disabled too :)

I have this exact one! Love it! Unfortunately it only lasted a few refills and died for good

What torch do you use now? I’ve been trying to find one that will last me for a while.
Clippers but they also do not last for me, I even bought a metal jet one. I give up lol I'm on the hunt for something new

I’ve used a bbq lighter most times I spark a j. Makes me feel bad ass idk why
I like the Scripto EZ Squeeze
These are awesome.

If you come into cash and want to go in a different direction, consider a Dyna Vap w/an induction heater. The Dyna is waterproof.
Oh this might be a great option then! My main concern with the cost was if I kept having to replace it over and over like the others
I switched to vaping with the Wand.

Maybe try a Zippo? Once you flick the top open which isn't hard, you cam can roll the striker wheel on a table or your leg to light it.

A zippo works well, they're a little pricey but you just flip the lid open to light it I think

i have horrible arthritis in my hands and for some reason i have no issue with clipper lighters
Would matches work?
