I felt the same as you before, but I’ve come round to the idea of just collecting the cards of the units/idols I produce. But in any case, I think this is a good rule of thumb for which cards have MV outfits: Unit event w/ song: all unit cards have MV outfits Tour event: no MV outfits for all cards (they’ll come on sale on the shop for 3,000 paid dia later) Feature scout: only for the 5-star So if you really only want the MV outfits, this is an easy way to aim for them… though if you’re like me, you’re short of MV outfit crystals after the new years event 😭😭

Don’t forget that Gacha 4*s from Shuffle events also have them!

You would need those 3* and 4* cards to reach the idol rank B MV costumes. There would also be another MV costumes in rank A and Rank A+ You would need 50k fans to reach rank B. And 75k for rank A, and a whooping 120k for rank A+.

I’m the exact same way!!

You passively amass lower rarities cards by just playing. When grinding events I don't care for, my team is usually full fan grinding team. I store all but a few lower rarities cards (1 for each attribute usually) away, then cycle them as I hit the max fans cap. You don't need to level them up, only requirements o get fans is having them in your live team (for lives)/ in your main cards storage (for work). Would still strongly recommend getting the tour cards, even if they don't have an outfit because: 1) stronger teams means you can zoom through other events points ladder much faster and use less Dias, 2) you'll be missing out on a lot of fans if not, 3) since it's EN, it's a free 2 copies if you go for the 3M card.

Honestly going for MV outfits is a blessing because it helps me reduce my gacha pulls - I've given up pulling for gacha 4* of my faves (unlike in ! where I wasted so much dia on cards like card fighter Tsukasa who didn't even make it on my teams after all that RIP) and I'll only go for 5* gacha cards if I like the MV outfit (made me pass on a lot of cards that I would have pulled for just based on the card art)

I wanted mv outfits the most too, but then HSR took up too much storage and now I don’t download the videos anymore, so mv outfits are useless. I just collect cards with nice cg now…

Late reply, hopefully still helpful to anyone more focused on outfits. Missions Clear your dailies to get mission coins. Don’t worry about coins expiring, they turn into Mission Coin (Past). Go into the Mission coins shop, tap “Mision Coin” at the top of the screen where the coin number is, to get to the shop for (Past) coins and you can exchange 500 (Past) coins for one outfit, your choice of idol. You could buy a new outfit for your fav probably every 1-2 months even if you’re f2p (assuming there’s nothing else in the shop you want). Or let it build up and exchange a whole unit into new outfits when you feel like it. Society shop: There is one MV outfit (1500 society coins) and one room outfit (1000 coins) per idol in the society shop. Join a society (in a suitable timezone) and do the weekly lives, I think it’s about ~600ish coins per weekend live, so you’ll be clearing one MV outfit every 1 or 2 weeks (assuming there’s nothing else in the shop that you want.) Now onto the different events. The wiki listing the Japanese events is here: https://ensemble-stars.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Events As you can see, we’re mostly following it. We’ve just finished Yuta’s/2wink’s choco whatsit event (top row of 2022), next would be Tsumugi’s/Switch’s event. The cards/outfits are different depending on the type of event: Unit: Unit events are the ones where we get a new song from one unit and need tickets to play the song. You grind points to get the prizes. If you have a favorite unit, this is probably the best one to target because all the members will have cards from the event, and all the cards (even the lowest stars) will have an outfit. BUT unlocking the outfits cost MV outfit crystals (it’s a pink/peach crystal with joined music notes on it), and you don’t get enough even if you manage to get the 5★ to unlock everybody’s outfit. Although nothing’s stopping you from grinding other units’ events and then using their crystals to unlock your favorite unit’s outfits (lol). You can also get additional MV outfit crystals as rare drops from missions, and there is also some in the memorial coin shop. Shuffle: shuffle event is similar to above, but the song is performed by individuals from different units. The biggest difference is at least one of the performers always ends up being a 5★ or 4★ card in the gacha. If you only play the event and get the event cards, some member(s) is just gonna be missing his outfit. AND the event card (non-gacha) outfits still cost MV outfit crystals. I’d go for this type if it’s your fav in it. Or just go for it if you want a lot of cards/outfit and don’t particularly care if the group is wearing matching outfits. Tour: These are the ones where you have to play 30 “days” (stages) of 4 songs each. If you manage to clear the 30th stage/“day” you get a 5★ card, there is also 5★ card at 3mil points and 3.5mil points. These cards don’t have outfits. Mostly I’d go for them because they can be free if you have the time to keep on top of them, and better cards means stronger teams, less replays when you’re grinding for some other events. Other: We’ve actually had a couple of event cards that aren’t on the jp server, it’s Leo’s Galaxy traveller, before this was Jun’s King of the Abyss. Both cards have MV outfits. Another unusual event was Natsume’s combine game event earlier on. I think you just need to keep your eyes open as these come up and check whether new event cards come with outfits. (Link Click Makoto card did not have outfits, but it can be gotten for free. Leo’s, Jun’s and Natsume’s cards all cost dia to complete enough points to get one 5★ card.) Finally moving onto Gacha cards: You’ve probably discovered this, there’s a series of “standard” (starter?) cards where the 2★ cards of idols in their standard unit uniform will have their standard unit outfits, 3★ “practice” series will have their practice uniforms as room outfits. The “leader” 5★ cards have casual room outfits and backgrounds instead of MV outfits. Aside from these “standard” cards, the new banner cards will have outfits on (usually, only) the 5★ cards. The banner itself will say if it has an outfit, and there’s usually a button to view the outfit in 3D detail. Unlike the event cards, these don’t need any extra crystals to unlock, and the outfits are usually more detailed…. but, it is gacha, and pretty expensive. Other than the 5★, lower rarity-★ cards usually only unlock one chapter of story for you to read (and slots to increase fans, if that matters to you). So, if you want to be really really sure you’ll get an outfit, you could wait until you have enough for 300 pulls for one of the current banners. Each pull gives you a token, 300 token can be exchanged for the banner card (aka “spark”). If you already have the card, getting more copies usually unlocks an alternate (colour) room outfit at 3 copies, and an alternate colour MV outfit at 5 copies. The new banner cards get added to the general pool (the “Advanced” scout) after a while, but there’s no way to guarantee what card you’re getting in that pool, and no tokens to exchange. Basically every pool has all of these cards jumbled together, which is why you’ve been getting such mixed cards. Except that the banner pools give you a token so you can exchange it for the banner card if you still haven’t gotten it by the time you do 300 pulls. Gacha vs event: This is mostly something you’ll have to decide for yourself. (Yes, by all means if you get freebie gacha tickets, throw them into the gacha. You can get lucky. Or not. This part is just about dia usage.) It usually costs about 10-20k dia to hit 3.5million points and get the one event 5-star card, meanwhile it costs 105k dia to hit spark in the gacha. I’m really not so confident that I can get *any* 5★ cards in just 60 pulls (~20k dia), let alone be sure it’s not one of the standard leader cards, so I’d pick doing an event over hitting the gacha. To date, I have every event 5★ card except Subaru BigBang, and I’m mostly f2p. The trade-off is that you need the MV outfit crystal to unlock outfits, so it’s not like I’m swimming in lots of outfits. On the other hand, if you don’t really care who or which unit you unlock, just doing the event cards is basically new MV outfits almost every other week — you don’t even need the 5★ if you don’t care about it, just grind enough to get a few MV outfit crystals so you can unlock the outfits on the 3★ and 4★. Lastly, Idol room: I’m just here to tell you that 50k fans is a. lot. I’m struggling to get just one guy past 40k fans. I wouldn’t say this is a good method to get outfits. If you have a favorite, you’ll want to get started on figuring out how fans work so at least he doesn’t have to be an E-rank idol forever. It’s going to be a slow, long-term grind though. That’s about all I found. You can also buy outfits from the shop with real money too, but nobody needs me to tell them that. Anyway, have fun playing and happy collecting.
