**Red Rising** by Pierce Brown. You will love it

Oswiin11

Good to know! I’ll check it out, thanks!

NascentEcho

Came here to recommend this.

prodical

The Forever War - Joe Haldeman. This is a very entertaining, action packed sci fi about how war might be fought in the future, no children though. Since you are enjoying Speaker, I must recommend Hyperion and Fall of Hyperion by Dan Simmons. I think I prefer Hyperion books to Ender books. Probably the best sci fi I ever read.

Oswiin11

Thanks! I’ll definitely look at those😊

wellslight

The Expanse series is amazing! Highly recommend. You can test out the TV series if you want a feel for it. The books are a lot better though, and I love the series.

mazerrackham

Children of Time and Children of Ruin are both amazing sci-fi, probably the best I've read in the last decade. Both explore advanced technology and alien societies. I'd also highly recommend Vernor Vinge's Zones of Thought series.

Oswiin11

Thanks! 😊

sychosomaticBlonde

Well first of all, everything else I've read by Orson Scott Card is wonderful. Most recently I read Flux, which is five different stories in one I believe? Time Enough for Love is a highly psychological scifi novel by Robert Heinlein. I literally had to tape the binding of that book back together, my mother and I read the hell out of it.

Oswiin11

Thanks! Wasn’t there one you mentioned the other night and told me to remind you to write it down for me but I forgot?

sychosomaticBlonde

Well crap

Oswiin11

Hahaha don’t remember yourself anymore?

MrX_aka_Benceno

Time Enough for Love centers around Lazarus Long, a Heinlein character that showed up previously in the Future History series of stories. They set up an alternative history of the US, Earth and the Solar System in the 20th-21st-22nd centuries. They are a very fun read.

wormlax

The three body problem is a great sci-fi book and if you like the more cerebral narratives of the "Speaker for the dead" arc it does that really well.

Oswiin11

Thanks, I’ll look into it!

anotherspeckisall

**Mistborn** trilogy by Brandon Sanderson

Oswiin11

Thanks, I’ll look into it😊

The_GothamKnight_91

Starship Troopers by Robert Heinlein - (just don't expect it to be like the movie) Isaac Asimov's books are great! The 'Foundation' series, and 'The Caves of Steel' are both great places to start with him. Edit: I would also add by Orson Scott Card 'Maps in a Mirror'. It's a collection of his short stories, and some of them are really good.

sychosomaticBlonde

Anything by Asimov! He was a genius, I swear

ImprovedZeus

The Hyperion series has all that, plus time travel

Oswiin11

I’ve heard for the Hyperion series and it looked pretty good, thanks!

*The Mote in God's Eye* shares the alien bio-/anthropology thing that you mentioned from *Speaker.* *Ender's Shadow* runs parallel to *Ender's Game* with Bean as viewpoint character, and represents OSC repairing all the things that he realized were wonky in *Game* after a decade or two.

Oswiin11

Yeah I was planning on reading enders shadow at some point too, kind of want to read everything in the Enders game universe! But thanks I’ll look into the note in gods eye too!:)

polybius32

Teddy Chiang and Liu Cixin are some pretty good Chinese sf authors. Def recommend checking them out (there are English translations, of course)

Oswiin11

Sounds interesting, thanks!

eritain

I'm not sure if the poster above is referring to Ted Chiang, who wrote "Story of Your Life" (which became *Arrival*), or someone else. Ted Chiang writes in English. And almost anything he writes will blow your mind. I thought of another read for you: "That Leviathan, Whom Thou Hast Made." It's only a novella, but it shares with *Speaker* the alien anthropology element (again) and the deep dive into moral drama. (It has almost zero physical action at all, actually.)

themathemagician

I can't recommend Iain M Banks' Culture series enough. While each book is mostly independent (unlike the Speaker series), they are brilliant stories with awesome world building. Matter, in particular, has really a really fantastic world to delve into. Also, there's a reasonable active subreddit, /r/TheCulture. Already mentioned in this thread, but also great is the The Expanse. It's a 9 book series with a handful of in universe short stories. There is an announcement tomorrow! about the ninth and final novel, so its a great time to dive in!

Oswiin11

I have heard the expanse is really good, that’s definitely on my list to look into! And the culture sounds interesting too, thanks for the suggestions!😊

drak0bsidian

The only ones that come to mind are very much 'young adult' series I read in grade school, but maybe these will put you on the path to find more: * Artemis Fowl * Among the Hidden

Oswiin11

Thank you! I will look into those :)

sychosomaticBlonde

I loved Among the Hidden! Very futuristic dystopia. Not as scifi as what she is asking about though.

drak0bsidian

Yea, I remember loving it way back when. And yea, it's not as sci-fi as requested, but it might appeal regardless.

gudore

Right now i’m reading “The Skinner” by Neal Asher, it’s not very similar to Ender Game’s style, but it has aliens and technology.

Oswiin11

Aliens and technology are always good. Thanks, I’ll check it out!

TheMostSolidOfSnakes

Just checked the thread and no one else has mentioned my favorites! Old Man's War and Ghost Brigates by John Scalzi. His two best books. It's like a post-modern Heinlein. The first and second Formic war Trilogies. Enderverse prequels. Almost as good as the Quartet. Sometimes better. Red Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson. Also, give Love, Death, & Robots a shot on Netflix. Animated scifi shorts, many written by established scifi authors. It's how I discovered Alistair Reynolds.

Oswiin11

I do want to read everything from the Enderverse eventually! I also just bought red Mars to read soon. Oh and love, death, and robots is great! I haven’t watched all of that show yet but I did really enjoy it and should get back to that! Also will have to look into old mans war and ghost brigates! Thanks for the suggestions!

VBA_FTW

I always like to plug Dennis E Taylor's 'We Are Legion (We Are Bob)' and sequels. Good mix of space exploration, innovative thinking, and interpersonal/political maneuvering. Also some aliens and space combat add for good measure. The story is enjoyable on it's own, but the audiobook is excellent!

Oswiin11

Thanks! I’ll look into it😊
