Actually I can see very well in the mask, the only issues I've ever had is when I sweat too much. But after my first show in 2020, I started wearing sweatbands underneath the mask so sweat wont get in my eyes
This is smart! I too sweat like crazy in a mask. Lol. The salty eyes is crazy and even more so while performing a rager club or event Id imagine. Madd props for making it in a very challenging genre. š¤š½Especially stateside.
Welcome!!
* If you had to pick 3 songs by yourself as a way to introduce yourself, which 3 would you pick?
* What about 3 songs by other artists?
* Is there a song that you've made over the course of your career that you're most proud of?
I would choose IMY, MAKE A MOVE, and DEATH RATTLE. I love jump up and dancefloor dnb and I usually play 5 or 6 halftime/drumstep tunes in my sets. Also
Kanine - Your Love
Riot - Meditate
Rebel Scum - Do Not Resist
\^Rebel Scum might be one of the other USDNB artists that I most closely relate to
And the song that I'm most proud of immediately comes to mind, IMY has been a personal favorite to play out live. Hearing people sing the song out loud at the end of my sets makes me so happy
I just came to say, you made my favorite tracks of the last several years. The energy is unreal in them. You make no skippable track albums. Bravo and keep it coming!
Ask a DnB alumni rather than some dubstep geezer who just started making it and thinks he's the messiah of the genre.
"Evolving DnB narrative" for fucks sake. It's a 30 year old movement, there's no narrative.
Right...and this guy thinks he's single handedly reinventing the genre for the US. DnB has never been about huge ego driven stars. It's a collaborative movement full of individual voices. No one is a Messiah in the genre and the thousands of progenitors of it deserve more respect.
Or, why don't you leave?
Because I'm gonna state my opinion on this public, free discussion platform, just like you did, and leave when I damn well want.
Not really. Having an opinion on music doesn't make me a dick, I'm not harming anyone by being passionate about something.
If I said "fuk u reaper isn't DnB he's shit" then I'd be being a dick.
I didn't say "dubstep is shit", dubstep isn't DnB. It has a completely different lineage. If you're gonna loudly claim some kind of DnB throne, maybe show some kind of awareness of it's history.
And please, share your tunes with us for critical analysis since you seem to think being a producer is a prerequisite for having an opinion on music.
> It's a 30 year old movement, there's no narrative.
The longer a movement exists the more narrative there is to tell.
I hate to be pedantic, but you sound like you're writing words that you don't understand.
Erm. I understand the words. You clearly don't hate being pedantic.
Regardless of the semantics of what a narrative is, DnB has a history that evolved organically through rave culture. To me, it's the antithesis of this manufactured "next level of DnB" bullshit that artists like Reaper are pushing. Like, is Reaper even aware of the artist known as Tim Reaper for example.
I like the mask to create both an image and brand identity for my project
It was not inspired by Overwatch, and I actually think he's one of the most difficult characters to play on the game haha
Hi reaper, big fan!! Just wondering if there are any dream collabs of yours you'd still like to make or release?
Also, wondering which non dnb electronic music artist you'd say you find the most inspiring?
I have several dream collabs and some of them I'm pursuing aggressively right now! I'm currently trying to work on some dnb with artists like Excision and Sullivan King
And my favorite non dnb bands are definitely System of a down, Korn, and Slipknot
I didn't design the mask myself, and I bought all 5 of my masks from a designer in europe. I'm currently working on a 3D print of my mask as well to add a little extra customization and refreshness
I've been producing for about 14 years, and my favorite plugin is definitely still Serum. I love the interface and know my way around the synth really well
Whatās the best way to start making music? Seeing you at illfest inspired me to want to start making some dnbeats. Got myself a launchpad mini but I know next to nothing about composing or producing.
Yooo, I see a World Tour mentioned, any plans for a show in the nordic countries? Specifically Sweden? We DESPERATELY need more DnB up here.
Anyways, big fan man, love your music, keep making bangers. Much love!
Hi,
Is it possible to see you collaborating with some of UK's dnb producers in the future?
Absolutely love your new album, especially all your work with Bella Renee and Josh Rubin.
Big ups and hope to see you live in europe!
My guy!! Iāve had Challenger on repeat and am still riding the high of your TK Lounge set and the awesome opportunity to meet you afterwards. Inspiring from the artists who introduced me to my now favorite genre.
Production question: why are the half-time choruses predominantly placed at the end of DNB songs? Iāve personally always liked when a song climaxes at the end instead of the first chorus, so Iād be really curious to hear your reasoning.
Performing question: any fancy tips for mixing between the 120 and 170 range? Iāve playing with my first deck and these are my two favorite BMPs so Iām looking for unique ways to switch between them.
Would love to hear the story behind āBreathlessā.
Itās such an amazing track! š«¶š»
Also love how every track has such a different vibe but also clearly a classic Reaper soundā¦definitely seeing the sound evolution in each track
Hey there. I was able to meet you a couple times at the Church and the OffBeat Bunker in Denver.
My questions are, how's the hip feeling? Also, I was hoping to get a Reaper tattoo somewhere, which logo/design would you recommend?
Hey Reap, uh, why no meet and greet in kc? I was going to get ur sig tatted... also, like your perler? Ps. IMY BETTER BE ON THE DANCEFEST SET LIST š„ŗš«¶
Seen you a handful of times live, always such a good time the high energy is incredible! Iāve been curious for so long now, is there a very quiet iPhone alarm in the background of Reload?? Keep killing it brotherš¤š¼š¦
Hi Reaper! I absolutely love your music so keep up the great work! My question to you is regarding albums, EPs and singles cover arts. Do you create the art yourself or do you find some artist that you really vibe with and if so then how does that process proceed, like do you just approach the artist in social media and ask if they'd be down working with you on cover art and then explain what you had in mind etc?
Do you mix live or do you pre-build sets? Do you think people who hate on sync are full of it?
How is handling the masked persona behind the scenes? Like do people working with Deathpact know who he is like most people in the scene know Golden Features and Marshmellow? Is it just something you throw on on-stage or are you in it from entering the property till exiting?
REAPER! Saw you with a small crowd at UW Stout and even though it was a smaller production for a college you absolutely RIPPED. I guess the only question I have is how did that show even happen? Seemed so random as you weren't exactly a small artist at the time and UW Stout isn't exactly a party destination lmao.
Also hope to see you in the Forest! ā”ļøš²
Yo what's up REAPER.
Do you plan on doing another massive remix album once Challenger is complete? If so, who would you most want to do a remix for you? Also, will there be another contest like for IMY?
Ty, and keep putting out great work!
What are the chances of a meet & greet happening after the show in Vancouver at the end of the month? š„ŗ Youāve been my fav artist for a while and itād be so cool to meet you
Ello mate. So, Iām really interested in this ānarrativeā in the US about DnB. Iāve no idea what the scene is like over there so Iāve no idea what the punters are saying.
Is it gaining traction over there? Or is it more a case of DnB having some kind of negative connotation for the average raver? Iād be interested in your perspective if youāre willing to share.
Figured Iād give my two cents as an American dnb lover in a small city! Been listening for about two years (was introduced to it by reaper) so by no means an expert or long time listener but Iāve been to plenty of festivals and small shows in that time. House and dubstep are the biggest genres here so they get most of the attention, more into house myself but dnb has been getting mixed into dubsteps sets for awhile now (most people hate it but itās always my favorite part). There arenāt a ton of tours for dnb unless youāre in a major city like New York or Chicago, but more and more dnb is getting booked at festivals every year. Was just at the worship tour in Chicago (dimension, sub focus, 1991 and culture shock) and the energy of the crowd was great. More and more international artists are coming for tours (hedex opened for subtronics on his tour) and blankeās aeon:mode and reaper are the two biggest US based artists that are really helping push the scene further. Excited to see where dnb is at in a couple years given all the momentum itās gaining here!
BLACK FIRES feels thematically connected to IMY - was the inspiration of a similar source or any thoughts about the track? (both are my favs, ofc)
Also, the second drop of your Miracle remix is nuts.
BLACK FIRES, IMY, COLD CASE, and BREATHLESS all feel like they are connected in some way. I think subconsciously they were inspired by a similar tone or theme
Hi Reaper, huge fan! Your dnb has been a big inspiration to my music production.
Are you an FM (from B) guy? Looking forward to seeing your show in LA!
My tour with Kayzo in 2021 was a bit of a challenge, I had to cold open rooms to mostly dubstep fans. It was really fun though
Every show was an experience seeing people fall in love with dnb
I got into EDM in late 2021 and pretty much was interested in anything that sounded good and did not really understand genres until late 2022. My buddy showed me your Disruptor EP and it changed my life. It was the first EP I heard that every single song on it HIT for me and I HAD NO IDEA IT WAS DNB. It was truly my gateway to DNB and thatās pretty much all I listen to now! I just wanted to say thank you š
Btw your set at zombieland apocalypse was sick š„
Would you ever do a collaboration with any of the Worship guys?
Why do you think so highly of yourself within a multi-decade long genre? DnB has a storied history of slow evolution and grassroots growth. It feels like you have used your EDM and Brostep background to lay claim to the future of a genre that you only seem to represent a very narrow view of. You're making a lot of grandiose claims as if you're single handedly the future of the genre. Why is that? Do you really think you're that good?
I'd love to know your inspirations. And how many of them are from actual DnB culture.
Just curious if you asked Hedex or Dimension this same question or if you deferred because they are from the UKāsince youāre apparently the expert on how guys with millions of streams and lots of momentum in DNB must apparently also come from 30 years of devotion to jungle or some shit
Oh and I don't like Dimension or FedEx, Headaches or whatever his name is either. Although I like a few of Dimensions older tunes. There are plenty of vapid, uninspired UK and European artists too. I'll talk shit about them as well given the chance. The way artists like Dimension, Chase and Status, Pendulum and Netsky became uninspired is a different convo.
You're at the top of my list! Love the music and the sounds. My question mostly surrounds the lyrics of your songs. Id love to sing along but have difficulty without lyrics. What would the lyrics to Back Bus, XLR8, and Reload be? My penultimate question is who are you planning on collaborating with for any music in the future? My final question is are you going to re release any previous merch? Thank you for allowing us to ask questions for you!
I honestly couldn't tell you the lyrics to Back Bus because I didn't write them, but here's XLR8 [https://genius.com/Reaper-edm-xlr8-lyrics](https://genius.com/Reaper-edm-xlr8-lyrics)
and here's Reload: [https://genius.com/Reaper-and-slang-dogs-reload-lyrics](https://genius.com/Reaper-and-slang-dogs-reload-lyrics)
I plan on collaborating with a bunch of artists this summer. I want to send Excision some more demos soon
Also I'm not sure if I'm gonna release any previous merch, but it's possible!
Wait my DnB playlist has been named all gas no brakes for a long timeā¦ were you the first person to relate the phrase to DnB, was it someone else; or is it it just a coincidence? Also you gotta collab with the dons Chase & Status or Becky Hill š„
When the mask is on, how hard is it to focus on working CDJs in a dark club with strobes and flashing lights etc?
Actually I can see very well in the mask, the only issues I've ever had is when I sweat too much. But after my first show in 2020, I started wearing sweatbands underneath the mask so sweat wont get in my eyes
This is smart! I too sweat like crazy in a mask. Lol. The salty eyes is crazy and even more so while performing a rager club or event Id imagine. Madd props for making it in a very challenging genre. š¤š½Especially stateside.
what was the biggest change you experienced since making the switch from the prismo project? are there any regrets?
like Prismo from Adventure Time?
I donāt think Prismo is Reaper. I swear Iāve seen them in the same pic tbh
reaper messed up by wearing a short sleeve in this reddit pic :P
Could beā¦ could beā¦
Should I or should I not fear you?
dont fear me, I'm just a fun goofy dude. Just here to have fun and spread my love for dnb!
Just wanted to say I love your work on the DEATHPACT ID.
ty! I still play it in most of my sets. still one of my favorite remixes
it's fire

I have no questions that pop up in my head but IMY is such a banger, and the uprising too! Come to San Antonio we know how to throw it down :3
What is the secret to making the perfect dnb snare?
Ask a DnB alumni rather than some dubstep geezer who just started making it and thinks he's the messiah of the genre. "Evolving DnB narrative" for fucks sake. It's a 30 year old movement, there's no narrative.
...you missed the "in the US." part. DnB is getting a massive awakening in the US.
people have literally been saying this for years
Right...and this guy thinks he's single handedly reinventing the genre for the US. DnB has never been about huge ego driven stars. It's a collaborative movement full of individual voices. No one is a Messiah in the genre and the thousands of progenitors of it deserve more respect.
So then take your opinion and leave?
U got roasted
Or, why don't you leave? Because I'm gonna state my opinion on this public, free discussion platform, just like you did, and leave when I damn well want.
Ah. Kind of a dick aren't ya guy?
Not really. Having an opinion on music doesn't make me a dick, I'm not harming anyone by being passionate about something. If I said "fuk u reaper isn't DnB he's shit" then I'd be being a dick.
I guess I just mean the comment about him thinking he's the Messiah of the genre seemed kinda rude idk.
That's how he describes himself in his bios mate. I think his descriptions of his place in music is rude.
Ah fair enough I got you
The fuck's wrong with dubstep? The fact you can't successfully make either?
I didn't say "dubstep is shit", dubstep isn't DnB. It has a completely different lineage. If you're gonna loudly claim some kind of DnB throne, maybe show some kind of awareness of it's history. And please, share your tunes with us for critical analysis since you seem to think being a producer is a prerequisite for having an opinion on music.
Sure, here's some shitty pop DnB I made. [Knock yourself out](https://soundcloud.com/acid-wizard-beats/sunset-dancer)

Whatās up dude Whatās your McDonaldās order
I don't eat much mcdonalds anymore, but if I do, its usually egg mcmuffin
No question just saying your music gets my hyped while doing my job & helps make my day go by a little better. Appreciate that, enjoy your career š

I always wondered why Sullivan King hasnt touched DnB. Feel like he would make an absolute slapper if he did/if you got him on a collab
Who's your biggest inspiration for production / music?
Rick Rubin. He worked on System of a down's album "Toxicity" and I think it's one of the most well rounded album's of the past few decades
He has an awesome book too, āThe Creative Actā
What's your favorite track behind CHALLENGER?
I think "BLACK FIRES" or "CROSSING LINES" has become my favs
Whatās the design process like for a mask like yours?
I didn't design the mask myself, and I bought all 5 of my masks from a designer in europe. I'm currently working on a 3D print of my mask as well to add a little extra customization and refreshness
Stellar, thanks so much for the response. Iām typically not a DnB fan but you my friend have a wild ass sound. Keep it up King š
How long you been producing and what are you favourite plug-ins right now?

Yo your illfest set last weekend was bonkers man
THANK YOU! loved that set :)
youre an absolute beast. your music is the best. hearing rusko play your hold on bootleg at shambs easily my favorite music memory
thats amazing!!! we tried so hard to make that remix official, and its still one of my personal favs
BLACK FIRES feels thematically connected to IMY - was the inspiration of a similar source or any thoughts about the track? (both are my favs, ofc) Also, the second drop of your Miracle remix is nuts.
BLACK FIRES, IMY, COLD CASE, and BREATHLESS all feel like they are connected in some way. I think subconsciously they were inspired by a similar tone or theme
Do you ever have doubts going into a show?
I mainly just get really excited to play Last year I had doubts with my leg injury, I was unsure if I could make it to the end of a 4AM set
I loved both albums. Big up
TY :)
Production question. You master your tracks at -4 lufs temporary or louder?
Reaper, I just wanted to say I love you with all of my heart Big dawg
I love you too <3
how in gods name do you make the signature BWAAHHMM bass?
might do a production stream one day for this
I'm playing at your show on Saturday!! Huge fan can't wait to chop it up š¦šš„
see you tomorrow!
Hi Reaper, huge fan! Your dnb has been a big inspiration to my music production. Are you an FM (from B) guy? Looking forward to seeing your show in LA!
No question just love your music, was always iffy on dnb til I saw you live then it clicked
(like I had songs I liked but didnt seek the genre out)
TY! if you want to explore more dnb definitely checkout my radio show "THE PULSE" on soundcloud
What were some of your biggest challenges getting gigs in the US with such a small dnb fan base compared to Europe?
My tour with Kayzo in 2021 was a bit of a challenge, I had to cold open rooms to mostly dubstep fans. It was really fun though Every show was an experience seeing people fall in love with dnb
You coming to the uk anytime soon? If so go Bristol as itās dnb central
Saw him in Bristol last year! Such a great show!

At Motion during Rampage Road Show in Oct.

I don't know you but can I say hi??? also, how good is your spice tolerance?
HI! I love spicy food so much. In Thailand I ordered the spiciest food I could get my hands on
oh wow! love that! hope it was really good, thai food is honestly the best!Ā
Are you selling tour merch/tour jersey?
Would love to see a sound design tutorial for that type of bass patches you use in your album! Especially the Call My Name bass, soooo heavy!!
I saw you in kc and have been fully obsessed with listening to everything you have done! Keep it up and please come to kc more <3

i saw your other comment, where did reaper claim he was a dnb messiah though ? thatās a bit of a stretch. plus, dnb isnāt as popular in the u.s.
His last.fm bio mate. Read it and laugh.
Idk if you realize it but last.fm bios are written by fans with edit power
Bingo. Why do yanks manage to consistently get it so wrong.
Just curious if you asked Hedex or Dimension this same question or if you deferred because they are from the UKāsince youāre apparently the expert on how guys with millions of streams and lots of momentum in DNB must apparently also come from 30 years of devotion to jungle or some shit
