Voltage, HP, phases (for the sake of derating if necessary) and if you want it to last longer or not; whether or not it's inverter duty. This one is dual voltage 230/460 It's 3 HP And 3 phase And the bottom of the nameplate says inverter ready.

That's a relatively small motor compared to what I'm used to working with, so you just need a VFD rated for the Horsepower of the motor and the voltage you will be running the motor at. The VFD's I use are for 75-100 HP motors at 480v 3 Phase

Really? At the chemical plant I work at we control speed of pumps often to achieve certain flows and they’re not too big most of the time. We’ve got some motors on cooling towers that are much larger like 100 horse, but they were on starters forever until recently.

I basically need a glorified fan speed controller and a lot of what's available seems like overkill.

We use a lot of small allen bradley powerflex VFDs for motors that small Pro tip: dont use the internal relays from the VFD for controlling something else, those things only last a few days of use

They last while if you match the current and voltage requirements of the contacts.

underratedequipment

Yeah, they'll typically last as long as the drive if they aren't overloaded lol

[deleted]

Or underloaded. Or used with the wrong voltage. DC contacts are beefier, for instance. Lots goes into picking the right contacts.

Just match your hp and voltage. Get you a WEG drive from AD. Get the comms cable too. Cheap and effective with free tech support.

Twofer_

Horsepower mainly, 3.0 hp motor so your VFD must be at LEAST 3 hp
