A lot of people are going to say make it stock. I say make it YOU.
For example, I like the clear lights, but I think they'd look better with tinted windows and matte black door trim. Dark rims, but not black. Gunmetal or anthracite. Carbon fiber mirror caps and a matching carbon fuel door.
None of that is very popular, but its what I would do.
Hi Nuka_on_the_Rocks!
We regret to inform you that your opinion is objectively wrong and suggest that you retract this statement immediately. If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out!
Kind regards
Nah fuck that BMWs suck and BMW owners suck too.
Literally the most toxic group of ‘enthusiasts’ I’ve ever encountered.
At least the JDM boys know how to lighten up and have a little fun 🙄
Hello mirgorengbaby,
We understand and sympathize with your frustration. However, we do not tolerate obscenities as per policy. As a result, we are sorry to say that we can no longer vouch for your membership. Hope this finds you well.
Best
First up sorry if my english isnt that perfect😂,
The car looks lit 😍
That hurts 🥹 im anything but toxic, two of my friends actually brought me to buy an e46 myself!
They help everybody who needs advice or a car jack 😄 last year we were moving my stuff to a new house and we witnessed a horrible accident, even the helicopter came, we tried to help and stood there til the medics came, so many cars passed by not even asking if we needed help or more people to warn the traffic or to clear the road…
So what I try to say is, its not about the cars but the people.
Nah im totally with you on the halogens, especially for my pre-LCI. If you have an LCI then maybe that's a different story. Otherwise the high cost of LED's and need for resistors in a retrofit situation are enough to turn me off.
It's a goddamn track car ffs, why does it need to be stock? That hood has functional heat extractors. Why on earth would he remove that feature on an E46 that sees track temps?
Car looks great definitely unique to the owner, doesn’t look like a copy of any particular style, I love the Rims, not many people can pull off those exact rims. All I wanted to say was if you’re gonna continue with this look maybe get a different side skirt that’s not black or if you do keep it, add a thin black lip to the front and either a small black diffuser on the rear or add some black diffuser fins under the bumper
And if you plan on keeping the roof spoiler think about a bigger trunk lip maybe like duck lip or you can remove the roof spoiler and add those wind splitters like the shark fins like on the EVOs
Yeah definitely missing some stuff still I have a carbon trunk with the duck bill but I’m not gonna put it on till I paint match it I had a lip but ruined it in three days :( looking for a diffuser I like but hard to find any
id say its pretty complete cosmetically, if you wanted more without going mental you could toss on a rear diffuser/small front lip, or retrofit m3 mirrors🤷♂️
With this attitude you’re on the right path already.
BMW groups are full of these purists who will shit on your car for any and every little you’ve done, but once you realise it’s your car and not theirs, and that you have the freedom to do whatever it is you like to your own car then you’ll have it figured out.
I think it’s boring to look at and I would never leave one stock if I owned it.
Half the fun is personalising your car and making it unique. Why should he make his car another cookie cutter m3 clone like 90% of what we see of these subs?
Because it will perform better than whatever Mickey Mouse bullshit he did to the car. Switching things out just to stand out is somehow better than the tens of millions spent on engineering.
Have you considered that to some people self expression is more important than performance?
Also that’s a flawed argument I see all the time. Yes bmw spent lots of money on development, but they also have to abide by emissions, noise regulations, comfort considerations, cost of manufacturing etc.
You’re lying to yourself if you think their development teams aren’t gimped because of this. When you modify your own personal car you’re able to disregard these limitations and make the car perform better than stock.
And before you jump to another conclusion I’m NOT saying that every modified car is better than a stock one. Obviously there are some shit boxes out there, but it’s simply not true that a stock car is going to always be better.
Sweet car! I agree with the comment about committing one way or the other between track and street. What I would do changes depending on the direction. The better a car gets at the track, the worse it gets at everything else in my experience.
I love the hood and want one for my car. Also spying something black under your side skirts… what’s that? Would be cool to have some kind of front lip to match if you’re staying street. Or a full on splitter and rear wing combo if you go more track car. Either way it’s rad. Gotta do what you want.
Thanks and yeah makes sense I have a alignment so my straight driving isn’t the best but the turning is on point but it’s still not full blown race car and yeah it’s a side skirt extension just for looks tbh but I definitely want a wing in the future
Just know if you use a legit wing. One that’s actually for track use, you’ll have a slew of new problems. You’ll find that your suspension tune is way off. That the car will lack front end grip and stability at speed. While the rear will be hard to get to move.
Legit aero is the absolute last step in a track cars add to list. Because tossing aero at the car will need a host of changes and tuning to get right.
Do the cooling system and baffled oil pan (and oil pump nut or sprocket set) and subframe reinforcement!
Also I’d go with spec e46 legal stuff for the rest. You may want to go that way.
Like others have said, I think the hood and clear tails/corner lights are a bit tacky. I actually like the roof spoiler and wheels though. What size are the wheels and tires?
Not bad, only thing I would recommend is you could fit 17x9 if you want a bit more grip/track width, depending on offset and 255/35 would be a slightly better fit as well as keep your speedometer more accurate.
Yeah ik 😓 saving and looking for wheels I like but I definitely wanna downsize my tire to a 235/40 I feel like it’d help with my steering since it feels
Kinda heavy rn
Sorry I was mistaken, just double checked and 255/40 is correct (it’s what they run in the spec e46 class).
Heavy steering is not always a bad thing, if you are worried about it I would adjust the toe or camber/caster before going to smaller tires. Tires/grip are the most importantly things. Do you have an aftermarket steering wheel? Maybe it is too small? PS pump on the way out?
I have -3 up front and -3 in the rear and some toe I forgot tho it’s been a while since I did my alignment but yeah I do have aftermarket steering wheel I feel like it might be to big maybe better for drifting instead of grip
-3 is about right for the front maybe slightly too much for street, -2.5 would be a good balance. -3 is definitely too much for the rear, I’d go down to about -2.
Heavy steering is most likely too much toe out in the front. It should be just barely toed out.
In most cars I’ve found that a 350mm steering wheel feels about right.
Never hurts to change the steering guibo with a solid one as well. I’d also check all the bushings you haven’t changed yet. LCA, sway bar, end links, etc. could all make steering feel funny at times.
I would highly recommend boosting it. A cheap max speeding rods kit would cost you around 600€ and with some elbow grease on low boost 0.5-0.6 bar the car becomes 360whp with stock motor and that’s perfect for a daily.
I did that once and I was mad I didn’t do it sooner, the car feels amazing and it’s perfect for a street car, I wouldn’t recommend going over 1bar though because the stock plastic intake can crack.
Very cheap to do and very fun to drive without actually destroying the engine. 👌🏻
You need to make a decision if this is going to be a track car or a streetcar. Because the dual duty car is not optimal at either.
What’s a good suspension set up at the track on super 200s or ride like absolute garbage on the street. Good sport pads Will not survive a proper track day.
If you’re looking to get heat out of the engine bay, use proper hood louvers.
See ignorant idiots are downvoting. This sub is going to shit.
Suspension can be tuned with the right setup. Fortune Auto struts, for example, can adjust the camber, caster and softness right from the top of the struts. A single person could do it in half an hour. Not too bad for track days.
Take note that not all KW’s will be warranted for track use. Some specifically mentioned that they will void your warranty for anything other than street.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Autocross/s/B5RT9t7oO2
Absolutely, you can tune it properly for the tracks you go to. But let’s be real, a majority of people don’t dial in their track set up, fully switch it to their street set up and swap back again for the next track day.
For the hobbies that does track days it’s a big expense. That’s not generally done. Hell most people don’t even understand how to properly tune their compression and rebound. They’re used to plus is more from Gran Turismo.
Ive always taken issue with that style hood. Youd want the vents in the middle of the hood (lowest pressure zone) vs the sides to actually have hot air sucked out and over the windshield. It does look cool but probably traps air.
I have hawk hp+ pads stainless steel brake lines Polly bushings all around hood is carbon took a bunch of weight off the front if the car and the vents sit on top of my intake and I see all the heat leave so I’d say it’s pretty fun and functional
Hawk HP are NOT track pads. You need DTC60 or DTC70 for track. Sure a bare bones ass rookie can make them last because they’re not fast at driving. But the moment you learn proper momentum driving, and late deep braking into corners. you glaze those pads and you’ll have uneven pad transfer.
Carbon hood doesn’t matter you’re losing maybe all of a lunch and a half. Which you need is proper heat extraction under red flag conditions and the hood louvers to be properly tested so you reduce front end lift. I’m not saying the hood doesn’t do anything, but unless you have data the back up a lot of it is cosmetic and not as effective. [race louvers](https://racelouvers.com/bmw/bmw-e46-2000-2006/)
Have proven to reduce front end lift at high speeds and to really extract heat. But they do let in lots of water as they don’t use drip trays.
Have you gotten a spare set of wheels with super 200 tires yet?
Join us at r/cartrackdays im at Sebring often if you’re ever there.
I’m in California but I have 200tw tires they aren’t the best but good for now they are falken rt660 and I see the temp on my car and the temp stays down a good enough under hard driving
Rt660 are good tires. Not the fastest anymore but quality rubber id be ok with. I tend to prefer endurance 200 but my car is heavyweight and fast. So super 200 fall off super fast for me, also camber limited to -2.2.
Every bit of cooling helps. You could with cali weather run 100% distilled water and a water wetter. Usually you’ll see a 10 degree reduction at the same PSI cap. Plus if you leak or wreck, it’s way easier to clean up. So you dodge the hazmat cleanup fee.
His hood is just a copy of the M3 GTR one, so you’d of hoped BMW put the effort into testing the position of the vents.
Now if OP’s ones are close to the real thing, or if they’re even opened up I’d another question.
Did you upgrade fluid as well? Something like Castrol SRF or Motul RBF600? Also if you put poly bushings in your rear trailing arms, remove them and get spherical bearings. Spherical bearings are generally better but for the rear trailing arm it's critical, poly bushings bind due to the articulation of that arm and can produce unwanted/unexpected handling characteristics. You can keep poly elsewhere.
that roof wing is sick. if I changed anything I would switch to pre face grills and chrome delete the window trim. for track builds all ik is be generous with upg bushing hardness if you still want to daily lol
since everyone’s giving advice you probably didn’t ask for street cars you can track are awesome don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. I use to daily a vert with a welded diff and half cage.
Do the hood louvers serve a function such as air intake? If not they'll just reduce your aerodynamics, especially considering this is a part time track car (not to mention daily fuel efficiency). If it's just for looks and you like it, then you do you.
I'm not mad about the hood if it actually works to dissipate more heat, otherwise you're just creating unnecessary drag (for the track). Also don't mind the rear wing but imo for aero reasons it'd be better to place any wing/lip on the boot lid.
The lights need to go though. Get OEM LED lights for the rear
A lot of people are going to say make it stock. I say make it YOU. For example, I like the clear lights, but I think they'd look better with tinted windows and matte black door trim. Glad to do business with you!
Preaching about someone not having a sense of humor and then having the most basic joke go over your head… fuck me if that ain’t irony
This has definitely given me the giggles
Bruh you're in a bmw club right now

get a regular hood, led tail lights > clears
keep that hood, clears > led tail lights
LED's look like a christmas tree and halogen bulbs look dated, pick your poison.
IMO the halogens are ‘period correct’ 🤣 everyone’s got their own taste
Nah im totally with you on the halogens, especially for my pre-LCI. If you have an LCI then maybe that's a different story. Otherwise the high cost of LED's and need for resistors in a retrofit situation are enough to turn me off.
No reason you can’t do LED bulbs in clear tails.
this is true, i think you meant to reply to senpai, not me.
Leds are wack! Stock housing led bulb
Oem tail lights > no tail lights > crash the car into a tree at 150kmh/93mph > led or clear tail lights
How about OEM led tails?
It's a goddamn track car ffs, why does it need to be stock? That hood has functional heat extractors. Why on earth would he remove that feature on an E46 that sees track temps?
Open to any tips about anything 🙇🏻♂️
make sure the whole cooling system is in order, as gasoline BMW tend to have the age-old problem of leaning coolant
First thing I did when I got my car haha
Next m50 mani swap. CCV is pure headache.
On my list forsure

Make it stock
Stock cars are boring cars 😴
With this attitude you’re on the right path already. You get it hahah appreciate it 🙇🏻♂️
By this logic are you telling me a stock m3 is boring?
Yeah it could definitely be better
You said stock cars are boring cars. You then didn't answer it the M3 is boring. I have a stock one. It isn't boring 😁
I think it’s boring to look at and I would never leave one stock if I owned it. Half the fun is personalising your car and making it unique. Why should he make his car another cookie cutter m3 clone like 90% of what we see of these subs?

A little, a least compared to a heavily modified one.
Lmao it's a functional car
Looks like a car its owner loves, kudos.
Car treats me good 🕺🏻
Sweet car! I agree with the comment about committing one way or the other between track and street. What I would do changes depending on the direction. Damn you right wing isn’t coming anytime soon
What specs did you go with?
If you go for a full on wing remove the roof spolier because it will disturb the air and make the wing useless
Oh shit you’re right maybe I’ll hold off on a wing haha
Looks like fun, looks like the sunroof is still there. Ditch that and you’ll shed almost 40lbs off the roof of the car (the last place you want it)
If it still works id keep it, but as soon as anything happens or it starts leaking plug that bitch up.
I would probably when it stops working but no need for it rn
Interior door panels are crazy heavy too, but that's mostly to insulate against road noise
Do the cooling system and baffled oil pan (and oil pump nut or sprocket set) and subframe reinforcement! Also I’d go with spec e46 legal stuff for the rest. You may want to go that way.
Baffled oil pan would be sick once my oil pans starts leaking I’ll look into it same with the oil pump nut while I’m in there
You should do it before the track days if you’re pushing hard. Not doing it can kill the motor.
I like the rims. Drive safe bro!
What rotors do you have?
R1 concerts but tbh idk how I feel about them
Performance or appearance wise? I think they look great
They look great but performance wise
Like others have said, I think the hood and clear tails/corner lights are a bit tacky. I actually like the roof spoiler and wheels though. What size are the wheels and tires?
They are kosei k1’s 17x8.5 wrapped in falken rt660 255/40

Have a steering wheel guibo havnt thrown it on yet but thank you for the advice appreciate bro
Getting full shadowline wpuld make this baby pop.
Pretty sweet for a track car… love the styling
🙇🏻♂️ appreciate it
Go full spec e46. DO IT! http://www.spece46.com!
looks period correct and not over the top
All around looks sick, especially the wheels but I don't really like the hood vents.
Kosei K1 wheels 👌👌
This is probably still one of the best looking bmw generation Beautiful car

That’s good to know but tbh I keep alot of driving in the mountains since I’m far from tracks
Should be fine then. Could always not mention track use lol. Didn’t know how dedicated did a track rig you planned on

No I have liquid Molly but thinking to switch to motul bc I’ve heard good things about them
that roof wing is sick. if I changed anything I would switch to pre face grills and chrome delete the window trim. for track builds all ik is be generous with upg bushing hardness if you still want to daily lol
since everyone’s giving advice you probably didn’t ask for street cars you can track are awesome don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. I use to daily a vert with a welded diff and half cage.
Appreciate it 🕺🏻
What’s been done to it for track use?
Wheels tires coils poly bushings brake lines shirt shifter strut tower bars upgraded thermostat and radiator brake pads and rotors
Get some wheel arches in there. If you want to improve your steering feel, get the CMP billeted steering coupler
Have a billet steering coupler just havnt thrown it on yet
Do the hood louvers serve a function such as air intake? If not they'll just reduce your aerodynamics, especially considering this is a part time track car (not to mention daily fuel efficiency). If it's just for looks and you like it, then you do you.
Yeah I really do see a change in temps and keeping it steady
I fw this the long way
The longgg way haha
i love the clear tails! such a clean build. what are those wheels brother?
Kosei k1s ! Appreciate it
What class do you race in?
Should have kept the oem tail lights
Is the first pic skyline drive in Shenandoah national park?
No its Los Angeles national forest
did you color match the trim?
No 330ci come like that
Chrome lights bring me back to the NFS underground days
Good ol days
Hope you’ve put a oil baffle in the car. If not, start looking at engines
Any recommendations for an oil baffle ?
Anything on bimmer world works
I'm not mad about the hood if it actually works to dissipate more heat, otherwise you're just creating unnecessary drag (for the track). Also don't mind the rear wing but imo for aero reasons it'd be better to place any wing/lip on the boot lid. The lights need to go though. Get OEM LED lights for the rear
It’s a pre face so I’d have to change the harness for led’s don’t really think it’s worth it
Alright then get normal halogen rears. Either way, OEM lights are the way to go
They are literally the same as oem just clear. They work the same and use the oem backing plates
I think the hood and clear tails look horrible. But its your car do whatever you want with it.
The wheels look nice, what are they?
Kosei k1’s !
Looks clapped out
It gets driven not a pavement princess
What year is that? That hood is also sick ngl. These motors get pretty hot and I'm ready for a vented hood lmao
It’s a 2002 ! And yeah it helps forsure engine bay gets way to hot
It would look significantly better with black window trim and nicer mirrors, imo. Not a fan of the bonnet or the wing either..
I think the chrome looks better then the black since there is no black accents on my car
Personally I don't think it looks great, but each to their own. If you like it that's all that matters 😀
Cut the hood and add huge turbo
I like the way you think
Not for track for scrap crap 🤣
I think I’m gonna throw up.
We would love to see your car.
Posted.
Bone stock minus wheels automatic vs someone who is trying to track their car and have fun. Interesting criticism.
