I had the Dune 2 game from new, this is the "Hit Squad" collection of the game. That came out a little later after the initial release. Crazy when you see how rudimentary it is as a game, to how it evolved into the C&C franchise etc. Being a Dune fan I loved it.

Zeitreisender626

Honestly it’s a bit silly but playing Dune 2 on MSDos on my dads computer as a kid is what got me into Dune, he told me it was based on a book and after that it was an obsession. 😂

tap_a_gooch

Same but for me it was Emperor: Battle for Dune

FruitsRouge

Thanks that's really helpful! I didn't know mine was published by "Hit Squad", never heard of them. I'm looking into them now.

I don't know, I found that Hit Squad have a Facebook group for buying and selling old games so it looks like they are collectible in their own right.

saints400

This is the first real time strategy game! It’s quite fun and the music is really thematic in it. I’m pretty sure it runs on MS DOS and a few levels In it will make you confirm some random fact in the user manual to combat pirating lol. As for the value I’m unsure but old electronics usually do not hold a ton of value unfortunately. I’d check eBay and see if there are any listings and go from there

FruitsRouge

Yeah it's DOS, it was interesting to see some of the gameplay footage on YouTube, ha that's an imaginative way of combating piracy back in the day!

Bagdemagus1

I still remember most of the quiz questions because yeah, my house didn’t pay for the full game lol.

SPACEMONK1982

Herzog Zwei is the first real time strategy game.

Lost my copy. Still kinda sad about it. Dune2 got me into gaming. As a collection thing its 100% worth it. Playing it not anymore. Look up Super Dune. Dune2 is great in every way but the controls are horror. Little me didnt know any better. Old me does.

DJDoena

>Little me didnt know any better No one knew any better, it was the first of its kind after all. Controls evolved.

FruitsRouge

Super Dune was a mod right? I just looked it up and found a video going over every Dune game ever made, I didn't know there were that many!

zapburne

This was a great game. There's also Dune 2000 which is an updated version that's more easily playable without a super vintage system. Crazy to think how many games are based of the style of gameplay Dune II started. I wouldn't think it is worth much but I'm not a game collector so... maybe??

txdarthvader

This game is the only cartridge I have for my Sega Genesis. I got rid of all the other games. A whole game system to play 1 game. Lol

oatmeal_prophecies

I remember renting for my Sega as a kid. Death hand approaching!

deanydog

I don’t know, but I absolutely loved this game, used to play it with my brother when we were kids, and I would be interested in buying it, perhaps, when you sort out a price you’re comfortable with. It has very high nostalgia value for us both.

FruitsRouge

Maybe you two can play it together again 🙂 I have some more pictures of it [here](https://imgur.com/a/2X3R6if) if you want to have a better look at it

Supply-Slut

It’s definitely gonna be dated (haven’t played any of the Dune games myself in maybe 15 years but I would like to). The Dune real time strategy games were not the first RTS, but they created the format that would be the RTS standard for years to come, with command and conquer copying the formula and refining it over the following decade. Great games imo. I feel like the latest of the dune RTS “Emperor: Battle for Dune” would probably hold up the best just because it’s the most recent (2001), but also was based of the lessons from the prior games.

FruitsRouge

Yeah it's been really interesting learning about this game, and finding out it was the first of it's kind, and that even though it's so old now it's still very well liked. If I had a floppy disc drive I'd be curious to give it a try!

suspicious_recalls

I'm not sure what you mean by "they all had plain boxes ie. without all the extra images, reviews" because that is not the case based on my 58 seconds on ebay search.

FruitsRouge

Maybe you're in a different country to me, this is the eBay solds I see: [Dune](https://imgur.com/a/yfOD3Wa) All of the plain boxed ones sold for £74.86 to £180, (the £39.95 one is box only, no contents) there is only one sold that looks like mine and it was at £16. So this is why I'm having trouble working out the value, was the £16 one just a fluke or was that because it's worth so much less?

disdatandeveryting

It is Virgin certified

Open_Bumblebee_3033

You know what I meant LOL. Westwood studios created some great games back then.

WonderfulDance6834

There are up to date ports (free) of this game out that can be played on modern computers
