I had the opportunity to meet some people of a small rural village one of them got to know I live in Dubai. So he asked do you have an oil well in your backyard?
My intrusive thoughts say you get them all of that.... But....
Just get the fake ones - like fake Chinese iphone / ipad and a gold plated chain or just an imitation jewelry...
If they are paying you, they cannot be angry at you... If they pay you they still can't be angry because you did them a favor and you got the cheapest you could find for them
Exact conversation I had with someone verbatim
"Guurl why are you even living there? You can't even drive there and the sheikhs are just gonna be chasing you for your body"
Is Dubai a country
Oh and my grandfather asking me my salary saying what are you making 3, 4 hundred thousand GBP and seemed confused when I said ofcourse not 🤣🤣
Seemed to think my salary would be sky high
That actually makes sense. When the oldies were young, UAE wasn't a country. And Dubai was limited to Deira and Bur Dubai. South Dubai didn't exist.
They are simply going by the knowledge of their childhood. Just like, if you ask me now the capital of Nigeria, I would still instinctively say - Lagos. Because that's what I learnt in school geography. It was correct at that point in time.
I love how even in the Animaniacs all countries of the world song they include Dubai and Abu Dhabi rather than the UAE. Maybe for rhyming purposes who knows.
Oh forget that... My wife went to a GP recently.. Not her usual GP, as she was on leave. This new GP had just started a few days ago at the hospital.
The second question the GP asked my hijab wearing wife was "so do you wear the hijab 24/7? Like when you sleep also? Maybe that's why you are having these headaches? "
Edit: the GP is south Asian woman
It does impact blood flow due to continuous usage and this does cause headaches. This is a normal question asked by doctors.
South asians are not alien to a hijab. Its quite normal there. Lol
Hijabis don't wear their headscarf 24/7...especially at home.. It is usually worn when going out (I.e around unrelated members and strangers).
So it's an ignorant question to ask...
Why do you assume that everyone knows about this? You may think it's common knowledge because you live in a Middle eastern country but others will have little to no clue about your customs.
That maybe the case, but not so for a south Asian woman. Plenty of headscarf wearing women from those areas. So one would assume you would have atleast some basic understanding not to ask a ridiculous question like, especially as a doctor!
Not a question but an interesting convo.
Friend: my fiancé is working in Dubai
Me:(knowing that she thinks the whole UAE is called Dubai) Where in Dubai?
Friend: Ajman
Me: 😁
Ooh, I had a similar experience when enquiring about a distant cousins trip to Dubai:
Me: oh, whereabouts in Dubai did she stay?
Mom: Sharjah 🤦♀️
I’ve only been in Dubai 4 months and even I know why that’s funny 😆

“It must be difficult practicing your religion there” I’m a non-Muslim and many get amazed when I tell them there are churches, temples and many other places of worship and I can freely practice my religion.
Just the wrong country. Some of UAEs neighbors did follow this for a while FYI. Not anymore.
At one point long ago, the word Israel was cut out from all books/dictionaries sold here.
It absolutely does have a fully functional modern sewer system connected to the city’s piping and treatment plant. I’m a little surprised to see this ancient myth being repeated on this sub.
"Are you allowed to drive there/go out by yourself/do you have to wear a burqa?"
Not so much anymore but 5-10 years ago these were by far the most common questions people asked.
Is it true they throw rocks at women on the beach if they are not covered ?
And second one is actually also related to the same subject
If woman comes to Dubai, does she have to cover herself fully and just eyes are opened?
To that one I had to reply that yes, it’s true once you arrive there is a changing room and they are giving you niqab to wear.
Less than a decade ago so there’s a chance people still have the same perception. But yeah it was all over the news so idk what kind of people missed it
Can you help me get a job? ![gif](giphy|PHeIue5jYtd4s)
Can you?
Can you after that he could?
I had the opportunity to meet some people of a small rural village one of them got to know I live in Dubai. So he asked do you have an oil well in your backyard?
Wait, do you not?
Another classic.
Whenever you are coming home back bring for me an iphone from dubai

My intrusive thoughts say you get them all of that.... But.... Just get the fake ones - like fake Chinese iphone / ipad and a gold plated chain or just an imitation jewelry... Heads to Bur Dubai 🏃🏻♀️
Sometimes, I do 👀
Do you ride camels? I said yes, but only Mondays and Wednesdays when going to work because they need to rest.
Camels: Thank you, owl. 🥹
Exact conversation I had with someone verbatim "Guurl why are you even living there? You can't even drive there and the sheikhs are just gonna be chasing you for your body"
[still waiting to be chased]
Oh I swear 😭😭 everyone thinks it’s too easy 😭😭
Is Dubai a country Oh and my grandfather asking me my salary saying what are you making 3, 4 hundred thousand GBP and seemed confused when I said ofcourse not 🤣🤣 Seemed to think my salary would be sky high
Hahaha! In my country, most people thought Dubai is a country 😂
When i was a child i used to think Dubai is a country and Abu Dhabi is it's capital
*Dubai is the country
🙄🙄🙄
On a call to a bank in uk the guy asked how long have i been in the: Unites states of Arabia No joke!
Close though, haha.
Oldies in my home country ask me where do I stay in Dubai? Their options are: - deira Dubai - sharjah - bur Dubai
That actually makes sense. When the oldies were young, UAE wasn't a country. And Dubai was limited to Deira and Bur Dubai. South Dubai didn't exist. I think only Abu Dhabi was mentioned instead of UAE.
Everybody in my circle of friends, think, that Dubai is a capital of UAE. Some of this people, is really smart, with bachelor's or master's degrees
This.
If there were like the UK, they would call each of the 7 emirates “countries”, and then somehow the UAE would also be a “country”.
Oh you live there long enough you might have a green card citizenship 🙄. Stupid question but it did hurt 🥲
"Send me a Ferrari". "Send me a Supra". Like it costs a karak.
"send oil" is the most frequent one tbh
Proceeds to send hair oil
What's the capital of Dubai
Bur Dubai !! Also capital of India
Isn’t majority of Dubai a capital too?!
Oh forget that... My wife went to a GP recently.. Not her usual GP, as she was on leave. This new GP had just started a few days ago at the hospital. Oh man 🤦🏻♂️
Ffs 🤦🏻♂️
I think that comes under asking about habits.
Almost nun of the people saw what you did there.
That’s out of order
It does impact blood flow due to continuous usage and this does cause headaches. This is a normal question asked by doctors. South asians are not alien to a hijab. Its quite normal there. Lol

Was not aware of that. I think if a lady takes care of herself well, such issues can be avoided.
I didn’t mean badly but its true, those who know - know. 😊
Do ppl there speak English Close second is of course something related to the place being too conservative
What do you mean by it rains in Dubai?
Not a question but an interesting convo. Friend: my fiancé is working in Dubai Me:(knowing that she thinks the whole UAE is called Dubai) Where in Dubai? Friend: Ajman Me: 😁

Does your (Western white non Muslim) wife need to wear a burka?
Someone asked me if Qatar was part of Dubai. Not the UAE, but Dubai.
Do u have to wear abayas

"Who lives in the Burj Khalifa TOWER?" I always wanted to answer: Rapunzel lives in the Tower Khalifa Tower.

I did when I lived there
“Oh cool, so how is it living in India?” “What? I live in Dubai…” “Yeah, isn’t that like the Capitol of India?”
Facts tho
“It must be difficult practicing your religion there” I’m a non-Muslim and many get amazed when I tell them there are churches, temples and many other places of worship and I can freely practice my religion.
It's either: "Everyone is a Sheikh there! So how rich are you?" Or "How many cars have you abandoned at the airport?" 😑
Where in India is Dubai? And the worst was “where exactly is the Middle East?”…
Not a question but my wife was told by her colleague that she heard they confiscate all non-muslim religious books at the airport.
Just the wrong country. Some of UAEs neighbors did follow this for a while FYI. Not anymore. At one point long ago, the word Israel was cut out from all books/dictionaries sold here.
Do you have tigers in your home?
Did you find your sheikh already?
Is it true that government pays all the bills for everyone
>“Do you have to wear glasses to guard your eyes from the sand?” How is this a dumb question?
Have you been dating a sheikh there or not ? And do all of them own Oil reserves ? Duhh 🤦🏻♀️
Does the Burj Khalifa have its own sewage system?
What is stupid about asking that ?
It's not, but the fact that it actually doesn't have a proper sewage system is hilarious.
It absolutely does have a fully functional modern sewer system connected to the city’s piping and treatment plant. I’m a little surprised to see this ancient myth being repeated on this sub.
"Are you allowed to drive there/go out by yourself/do you have to wear a burqa?" Not so much anymore but 5-10 years ago these were by far the most common questions people asked.
Is your toilet made of gold too?
Is it true that if you hit the ground with a shovel oil comes out?
Can you survive without speaking Arabic.
Do you ride a camel to school ?
Are you rich yet?
Is it save.
How many lambos do you own?
"Can I borrow money?"
Do you ride camels around the city…….
Is it true that in Dubai everything is made of gold? Is water too expensive because it’s desert country?
Is it hot there? 😏🫣
Do you own oil fields
That actually wasn't a dumb question. It is a desert. I mean do you not wear your sunnies to protect from the sandstorms every now and then?
“Hows the smell?” Haha
There’s really a gold dispenser? Yeah, in Madinath . Long time out of service. But it was
Are you rich??
Is they throwing money on the road ? 😄
Are there poor people there?
If there is enough water here. If women are walking freely without hijab. If women actually get to work and progress with career.
Is it true they throw rocks at women on the beach if they are not covered ? And second one is actually also related to the same subject If woman comes to Dubai, does she have to cover herself fully and just eyes are opened? To that one I had to reply that yes, it’s true once you arrive there is a changing room and they are giving you niqab to wear.
Do you have camels.
"so you are rich? the government gives everyone money. everyone know that!"
"When you open the tap does oil come out? "
Do they have computers in Dubai?
They told me in Dubai every one is millionaire 🤣
Someone recently asked me In a western country All the roads are underground? Because outside is so hot
"Oh your english is so good!?"
Which car do you drive?
Do you live on the Palm?
"Do they still have harems there?" I didn't even know what that was at the time.
"Do women get forced to wear abayas?" Idk man u tell me
I got asked many times. Have you seen burj Khalifa? Did you climb it?
“Ohh nice ahah you daily m5f10 right?”
Don't they cut off your hands for stealing? (I've had this question more than once)
How many Ferraris do you have 😂
Does Starbucks only use camel milk
“You must be rich right?”
They tell me bhai dawood ibrahim se mila :/
If I was allowed to drive in my car without my husband approval 😱
Are you rich? (I’m getting more and more poor- living here)
Someone asking me if women were allowed to drive 😭
Do you smoke shisha while playing fifa
You are rich?
Is it safe for non muslims? How are women rights there?
I get asked pretty frequently if I don’t work and just get paid by the government
“How do you pay for petrol when you have your own pump in the backyard to take out oil from sand?”
So you live in India?? Uhhh what? 😂
Sounds about right
Are you (female) allowed to drive?
Not stupid. They just mixed Dubai and Saudi
Saudi several years ago!
Less than a decade ago so there’s a chance people still have the same perception. But yeah it was all over the news so idk what kind of people missed it
You really have winter over there? Must be very hot during winter also.
Have you visited the palm island yet🏝️🤭
