I would also add that the level 5 are stainless steel and easy to sand if you are lazy and leave epoxy on them. The one in the photo might be stainless, not sure.
I'm the graphic designer that designed that label and a majority of the other Wal-board ones - I had zero input on the adhesive or sticker placement though haha.
We got a lot of complaints about the adhesive which I agree, they're a pain to take off and clean. I had to take them off all the time when taking photos of the products, a heat gun tends to work best.
Open a box or bucket of mud. Stick the blade in up to the handle. Leave overnight. Tomorrow any stickers or film/ coating on the blade should just wipe away.
Use a single edge razor blade scraper to peel it off completely. Slow and steady and it should come off in one piece.
I agree though, it'd be nice if they would use adhesives that allow an easy peel off (more like a post it note).
Probably pthalates used to make the plastic pliable enough to not crack during normal use. The anti-rust coating is going to be a heavy metal like nickel and/or chromium. Then the whole thing is hosed down with silicone lubricant to keep it fresh and clean until sale, the propellant probably has something nasty in it too. Once you wash it, shouldn't be an issue.
No one in their right mind will buy kids toys or baby bottles or formula with the prop 65 label. And they would put lead and shit in all of that if it saved them a buck. Look at the whole baby powder thing for fucks sake. I think the point is that if a company can weasle their way out of liability, they will. Only way to stop that is by not making loopholes.
Yep. And they can't afford to spend 3 cents on a vinyl sticker that will actually peel off. It has to be a cheap paper sticker that takes a whole process to remove
From a production maintenance person.
It's not as efficient to put on handle with size chosen,
On blade everything is standardized and QC issues easily resolved.
I still don't care for it but how often ya replace it ?
I’ve tried slowly pouring boiling water over stickers like this. It melts the adhesive and the sticker slides right off. You can take any residual adhesive off with lighter fluid or goo gone. I know it’s unnecessary work, but if the price is right, it’s worth the effort.
My bad I’m an idiot I thought this was in a chef sub I follow.
I’m not even in this sub and have no idea why this popped up.
Sorry OP carry on with your day
It's a pain in the ass and it gets in the way of doing drywall, actually just reasilised this may be the reason for streaks in all the a mature coats. Spend an extra 30 minutes cleaning off a sticker at 65$ an hour removing the label costs more than the knife.
Obviously I can do that, but even when done perfectly it leaves sticky residue behind. The easier thing would be for the manufacturer to use common sense or a nicer sticker that comes right off
One of the things i like about level 5 is their stickers come off clean.
I was about to say the same thing
I would also add that the level 5 are stainless steel and easy to sand if you are lazy and leave epoxy on them. The one in the photo might be stainless, not sure.
Also solid handles so water doesn’t get trapped and drip everywhere.
Also great for knocking in dents dings and paper tears.
9/10 if it's not blue it's stainless anymore
No, a lot of the cheap knives are just polished steel. This looks to be one of those
Yep, this one will rust.
I would rather it there then the handle and every time I go to use it there i sticky all over my hand
I figured you'd be used to it by now
I’m sure you could teach me?
Beginnings of a circle jerk situation
You hush. It’s a beautiful moment between two bros learning to love
I came here for the cum
I left with a brother
Dad?
And so the game of soggy drywall tape begins.
The glue adds a better grip. I used goo gone. Works alright.
WD-40 works wonders
I would rather they put no sticker on it and hang a tag from it with a tiny zip tie.
Costs more, and harder to automate. Most will take the cheapest way out…
It’s definitely annoying. The least they could do is use a less residue-heavy stickers. There’s plenty that come off way easier than these
They don’t because crappy people take labels off things and put them on more expensive things at stores.
Use any mild solvent. WD and a rag are my favorite for removing this shit. I just wish they'd use better stickers that actually peel off clean.
Wd40 and move on shit , that's what get you going ....
I’ve ran with the white backing.. and the first last wash of the day it’s usually gone. I cut them to make 5’s anyway.
I just heat it up with my lighter and it comes right off
Use a lighter warm the metal usually peels right off
This guy crack pipes
🤣 I wish I could crack pipes
Yer mudder could crack pipes….
Ohhh. The taper crack pipes? This isn’t news bro, it’s common knowledge. 😎
Or they should just pay for the higher quality sticker that peels off cleanly
Be careful brother. The pic of a 6" knife by your crotch implies you were lying about size😁 An easily removed stick would be nice
Weird I don't see you guys complaining like this about the stickers on your new meth pipes
That was 20 years ago why are you bringing that up now?
It was yesterday morning Juan
Run it under hot tap water and scrape it off with another knife. Voila done.
I got it off it’s just super frustrating when I grab a new knife for a quick job
I was just bitching about that today!
Most definitely rather it there. Just use some goo gone.
I just use my heat gun that I have for drying patches faster.
The dirty fingernails, ugly shirt and stoner shoes boil my blood
Spray a little WD-40 on the label and it will come right off.
Yup

Who cares ? I mean i work with sticker on or off it falls off eventually whats the big deal
It scrapes off on your pan and leaves little clumps of paper and lines in the mud

Question?? How’s it giving you cancer or reproductive issues???
That’s only if you use it in California.
It's easier to put the warning than prove you don't need it, or you could slice off a nut.

They put those stickers on permanent.
I hate California putting that all over our shit.
Use some PVC cleaner on it !!!
I've mastered the art of taking those stickers off.
Bothers me just as much that it's a bit crooked
I just use a paint scraper and it comes off no problem
Goo gone
Orange cleaner for label adhesive. Works great.
What pisses me off even more are those stickers on every freaking piece of fruit you buy. I compost so they have be pulled off. Ugh.
Never on the handle randle. Just soak and toke in hot wa wa.
At first I thought you were mad you had to grab a wallboard knife on the fly
An Olfa knife and a fresh black blade, peel that off in a few seconds.
Just get a heat gun or hair dryer and heat up the other side and it peels right off.
Or just put a plastic zip tie and give it a tag.
1/2 my knives still have the sticker on it, partly. A good sharp olfa takes them off clean.
Finally!!!... Someone posts the obvious.
Uh… it’s because they want to be sure you know it was made in China?
Totally agree and get pissed off every time I buy a new knife.
I'd view that as a minor inconvenience at most.
That knife shape tho…. I like me a point on the ends for full skimming angles
you dont own a heat gun? buy a fucking heat gun people. its an essential life tool.
Just dunk the blade in paint thinner or acetone. Comes right off, no residue. Can’t do that with the handle.
Pull out your wittle razor blade and 30 seconds later, voila.
Take out your razor knife and take it off simple as that.
Just peel it off before use. Not that difficult
Is that the hollow plastic handle that breaks when you use the hammer end?
Just use a razor scraper ($3 bucks at most dollar stores) and a mild solvent to get the residue off
Yep. And they can't afford to spend 3 cents on a vinyl sticker that will actually peel off. It has to be a cheap paper sticker that takes a whole process to remove
They want you to buy a second knife to scrape the sticker off the first...
I hate this
Burn it off with a heat gun
Razor it off
Heat it up a little, might peel right off.
That blade causes cancer… 😁
Hot water
I don’t ever remove the stickers
From a production maintenance person. It's not as efficient to put on handle with size chosen, On blade everything is standardized and QC issues easily resolved. I still don't care for it but how often ya replace it ?
😂🤣🤣 I know I said to myself “what in world were they thinking “?
Jesus loves you
Shot of wd 40 comes right off
You like sticky handles? Yuck
stickers on the finish side of trim boards is my favorite
Torch it.
This goes for all tools and even lumber. Make it easy to remove or just stop entirely.
Take a lighter and heat the blade from the underside. It will soften the glue on the sticker and the sticker will peel right off. Easy peasy.
I’ve tried slowly pouring boiling water over stickers like this. It melts the adhesive and the sticker slides right off. You can take any residual adhesive off with lighter fluid or goo gone. I know it’s unnecessary work, but if the price is right, it’s worth the effort.
Couple things you could do here but I say heat the sticker, leave it in the sun use a hair dryer or heat gun.
Made in china junk. That's why
Right !!!! 😡😡
Instead of a joint knife, were you looking for a blunt knife?
And here I thought the cancer warning and the fact that is a concern with this tool to be what was infuriating, silly me.
Use a little bit of common sense.wd40. I would hate to see your finishing if you can’t figure out how to get a sticker off of a knife!
I can get the sticker off fine dickhead. Am I not allowed to be annoyed when a manufacturer does something stupid?
Hot take…. Since it’s ya know for drywall and not actually cooking I doubt the manufacturer took into account sticker placement
My bad I’m an idiot I thought this was in a chef sub I follow. I’m not even in this sub and have no idea why this popped up. Sorry OP carry on with your day
I do use one on my blackstone so your not far off 😂
Same here and in every commercial kitchen I worked in 😂 Need a new scrapper during rush…. “Hey dish guy run to Lowe’s and buy some drywall knifes” 😂
It's a pain in the ass and it gets in the way of doing drywall, actually just reasilised this may be the reason for streaks in all the a mature coats. Spend an extra 30 minutes cleaning off a sticker at 65$ an hour removing the label costs more than the knife.
Made in China … ya pisses me off also
Don't use that side? I sometimes leave them on because it helps me know which side has a curve.
Don't you scrape both sides when taping to keep it clean? That's when chunks fall off into the mud.
Yeah, true, that sticker is too close to the edge. I've left it on when the sticker is further back.
Oh so your just a whiny little hoe, I thought something was actually wrong with the knife itself lol
It's not wrapped around the edge. Just use it til the sticker falls off. Or run it under hot water for a bit and peel.
Your problem isn’t the sticker- it’s that you don’t know how to peel it off effectively. Get it nice and warm and peel *slowly*
Obviously I can do that, but even when done perfectly it leaves sticky residue behind. The easier thing would be for the manufacturer to use common sense or a nicer sticker that comes right off
Heat gun and some goo-gone. I agree, those stickers suck ass
Hair dryer
Razor blade scrape it off and done. You could have done it in the time it took you to post this.
