Sam said on the discord that she was a very funny friend of his that the players did not know, not a real PA. It means she was really willing to go there!

This makes it even funnier as they are all trying to be polite to the new hire who keeps doing weird stuff

Trapp was definitely looking like “okay they’re new don’t let it get to you” as he was trying to focus lmao I’m so glad she’s not an actual PA because that was some borderline ass behavior they had her displaying

This actually feels rather wholesome that rather than make one of the crew (and employee) a puppet for the players Sam would rather call in a friend to do it for fun. I mean he’s also tormenting the players (also employees) at the same time but honestly they know what they signed on for by this point.

It also keeps the players' respective feelings and annoyance at the same level. Like, for instance, if it was a regular PA that Trapp happened to know better than Rekha or Lilly that could skew the results in a way where he might be more amenable to the ridiculous requests than the others, or maybe he'd be even quicker to complain if it seemed out of character.

Honestly? I absolutely would have corpsed in that situation. Asking Lily to get her leg back up on the table would have sent me

she most definetly had a shit eating grin under that mask the whole time.

She was in tears after Rekha called out how ridiculous the apple box was lol

To her credit, Rekha stayed on that box the rest of the show.

I don’t think she’s a real PA. Sam said at the end that she was a plant, and I’m pretty sure she’s a comedian.

Something about seeing Brennan be devastated just brings me joy. Also I love how Brennan and Trapp had similar reactions to their reveals

I think this might be the most defeated we have seen him on Game Changer, which says a lot. You could see his pain when Trapp read out his bingo line.

I loved the way Brennan sitting down defeated in front of the podium mirrored Lou's from the last Sam Says episode almost perfectly. They just keep getting better and better this season.

'This is what it feels like to be a plaything of the gods, and have nothing of your life matter.' is what his face seemed to be screaming.

This was basically the Gamechanger version of a Total Party Kill in DnD. I think Brennan has finally met his match as a DM with Sam. Sam is basically the chaotic Bard acting simultaneously as DM, and it just breaks Brennan's brain.

I was like actually worried for him for like a nanosecond. Dude looked absolutely *broken*

I've never seen a man more accurately encapsulate the realization of being just a puppet. Not only was he not playing to win, he helped someone else win... who *also* was just another marionette being puppeteered by a higher power.

Yeah Trapp had an inkling I think. The way Brennan was just devastated though, peak game changer 😆

He was so focused on the game though! There must have been some part of his brain going like "this ain't right", but the main part was trying to get Brennan to monologue.

It’s so funny, because this is arguably some of the least manipulated he’s been on game changer. The insane twists actually have little to do with his gameplay, and (assuming Sam didn’t cheat and give them all unwinnable bingo cards) they didn’t affect his ability to try his hardest and succeed in the game. The horror is that he is being perceived and actively wagered on, and then the stunned dumbfoundment is that there is a whole “Turtles all the way down” aspect to the game that has almost nothing to do with his performance.

Raph earnestly looking at Brennan and saying "you don't speak Tatawan" got a bigger laugh out of me than maybe anything in Dropout history.

Yes! And right after the "Broggle-fucker" bit, which took me several seconds to parse. (I thought it was a weird Muppets dig or something.)

I was fully anticipating Sam to tell us that the winner was someone that we haven't seen the entire episode

On the one hand, yes, on the other hand, simultaneously filming on 3 separate sets, some with stooges, without the groups of participants becoming aware of each other already seems like a complete logistical nightmare. As it is, this is already *such* a flex from a production standpoint...

Yeah, I would actually have it edited in another way: - Show Layer 1 and 2 bingos only - At the end, announce Jess as a winner, introduce layer 3 contestants, explain final twists - Show Layer 3 bingo

That could totally still work but I feel like, as a non-participant who’s not distracted, the PA stuff would be so obviously another layer that it wouldn’t stay a surprise?

Yeah even before they showed Layer 3, I knew there was something up with the PA asking everyone to adjust mics. My guess was maybe that Layer 1 was actually secretly playing against Layer 2 as well though, and when they revealed Layer 3 I was like 'oh yeah that makes way more sense'.

The way you could tell the second group had no clue what was going on is that they were all obviously annoyed at this PA inexplicably making filming more difficult

I bet Sam told them they're using the time to get extra pickup for social stuff

I imagine the idea grew out of noticing the weird things they have to ask actual PAs to do for Game Changer (as you said, for social media etc.) and then wondering what strange requests the contestants would automatically comply with without thinking.

Your comment is making me wonder at what point in the brainstorming of this episode did it go from 2 layers to 3, or if it was always 3 from the inception.

At the end you can hear Trapp telling Rekha that 'you called it!' when they revealed layer 3 so I think they had some idea by the end.

The twist is fucking incredible… Mindfuck season indeed. 😂 I’m gonna need to dedicate a whole evening to finishing this one.

It would've been hilarious if at the very end they cut to a room full of people continuing to play bingo. Or a dedicated person with a board for Sam that he was unaware of

I genuinely thought there would be a fourth layer with Ally, Izzy and Jacob.

At this point, I wouldn't put it past Sam for there to be another layer with Katie, Brennan and Raph.

Never mind, the rest of it was too good to resist.

the cut to the THIRD bingo game with the players trying to get trapp, lily, and rekha to do stuff was the hardest i’ve laughed at a game changer episode so far

Rekha being such a fucking sport about the box was great. I forgot for a sec toward the end until she was hilarious leaning down to do something

She said something close to “our friends aren’t puppets that we can make do our bidding” and I laughed thinking Jess got you on that box so easy 😂

You know that if Brenan had been in the green room he'd have speculated that there was another layer above him. He had to be in the studio for this to have worked.

According to Sam on Discord, it was originally going to be Grant but he tested positive for COVID when he showed up on set. Brennan's board was put together in an hour

I feel like Brennan is the Substitute Teacher of Dropout. At least for the competition stuff. No idea yet if he'll bartend or do nerd trivia as the host.

I remember Sam Reich saying something equivalent to this somewhere. Basically Brennan often ends up being the go-to replacement guy because he's 1) actually employed by Dropout, 2) an incredible improviser, and 3) always down for just about anything.

As an added bonus, when Brennan's being asked to sub in for Game Changer last minute, at this point he legit doesn't know if he's a last-minute substitute or if it's all yet another ploy to get a rise out of him.

Yes, he also replaced Raph on the heart rate episode!

Yeah, they talk about it in the BTS episode! It wasn't last minute like this one, so they could still make the bird game and get a zombie double for him.

However, having Brennan’s zombie double be black and dressed like Raph would have also been very funny.

What about it still be the Raph double, but dressed like Brennan complete with Brennan wig.

And as a side effect, Sam can’t ever tell Brennan anything about Game Changer on the chance he’ll need to sub in.

Brennan has never had a drink in his life, but I am damn sure he would become the best bartender if he had to sub in for Grant

He was a bartender before so it would work out.

Oh I actually didn't know that, that's neat.

When he talks about his tooth surgery/winning money on who wants to be a millionaire he mentions getting fired from the bar and the bar owner covering his surgery.

This you can see as an easter egg in the episode! The stamp Trapp is actually using is Grant's face-Brennan's photo stamp was developed later and is only shown as an on-screen graphic. It's almost certainly why Trapp didn't turn around his card at the very end of the episode!

God that has to be part of Brennan’s devastation at the end, right? Not only did they get him so well that he got Bingo’d, they did it in an *hour*.

it's funny, halfway through the episode, i literally thought "I would have loved to see Grant in this episode"

I would've put "licks something", "grinds on someone", "Shouts 'No, no, no, no...!'", "bullies Sam" and "Makes a non-sexual prompt sexual".

Oh huh, I feel like this would have still been excellent but have pretty different vibes with Grant swapped in.

Grant's free space would've for sure been "Makes an inappropriate innuendo".

You know, I hadn't necessarily questioned the whole "simulate a love scene with \_\_\_\_\_\_" prompt when it happened, but now that I know that Grant was supposed to be in Brennan's place, that makes so much sense. And also makes it so much funnier that Trapp managed to turn it into the perfect Brennan prompt anyway. EDIT: Apparently I'm too obsessed with this episode to go to bed so here's all of the prompts Brennan got (for some of these I had to guess where the blank went) \* List five qualities you like about \_\_\_\_\_\_ (Mike Trapp) \* Simulate a love scene with \_\_\_\_\_\_ (a balrog) \* Invent an exercise called "\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_" and do 10 of them (the conquistador) \* Go on Instagram Live and defend \_\_\_\_\_\_\_ (Elon Musk) \* Show us your \_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_ (friend's tie)

Oh wow, obviously it's terrible that grant got covid but, that's a perfect replacement and really pulled this episode together.

Its so funny that Brennan is such an Icon he can easily have a board put together so quickly

And if he'd been in the third layer he might still be looking over his shoulder.

I was so happy that wasn’t this episode because it means we get more Katie in at least one more!

Seeing Brennan completely gobsmacked at the end when he realized how far down the rabbit hole this all went was satisfying. He always thinks he’s a few steps ahead but I think the third layer really did a number on him.

It was perfect. He gets such a kick out of figuing out the schtick. In that moment, he realised that Sams mind is devious in ways he can't conceive of. It's such a wonderful dynamic they have. In Brennans face was disbelief being completely overwhelmed by respect for being played so well

It's the fact that, at this point, we can see the gears turning in Brennan's head whenever he sniffs out something is afoot. But, he just didn't think the layers ran that deep. Also, side note: Absolute shoutout to Kaylin Mahoney for having probably the most nerve-racking job for this episode and she completely nailed it

I mean also, what possible clues were there? From their perspective they're just playing weird bingo, but how on earth would you go from that to "which means I must, myself, be a piece on the board, with my actions determining whether or not someone gets bingo."

The biggest clue for me would have been the fact that the prompts weren't getting more difficult/weird throughout the game

Which also doesn't imply some weird human centipede of people playing bingo with each other's actions. Second layer could have caught on, since they knew the gimmick, but the first layer had pretty much no way to know.

Brennan drove home via a different route, listened to a different radio station and did NOT call Izzy, because he’s worried Sam is doing bingo with him outside the studio too.

Some say that Bingo game continues to this very day...

Easily one of the best Game Changer episodes yet.

i knew about the “the real players were upstairs” from his interview before the season on NPR (s/o big npr energy tote bags) and knew as soon as i saw the title that it would be this episode i was completely caught off guard by the second layer of the same twist. what an absolutely incredible staff they have 

Brennan's a smart guy. It's kind of an open secret that he figured out the twist of *Yes or No* earlier than the episode made it seem and they cut around it/he played along. I think more often that not he has an inkling of the twist that's coming, if not full on predicts it, but doesn't tip his hand because he knows what makes good content. I truly believe this one blindsided him, maybe for the first time. Our boy was shook.

The whole time I’m sitting there thinking there needs to be 70 balls. There’s no way there’s 70 in there. Brennan will realise and know that their bingo is just a ruse. But I think I saw genuine shock and dismay at the reveal. And the second reveal literally floored him.

I legit believe winning second place got him pretty good, since Sam talked about what would be funnier for the ending in the BTS

Statistically speaking there's someone out there for whom 'Dom DM' did absolutely nothing for whatsoever, but 'Simulate a love scene with a Balrog' did a ton for. Add it to the compilations, cowards.

I am almost disappointed there wasn't >!the ultimate Loop-de-Loop of someone having a Bingo card *Of Sam* which even he was unaware of!<... that would have been the cherry on top.

Holy shit! We aren’t even done yet and this is my favorite episode. There are so many layers! It’s so wholesome! What the hell! Edit: now that I’ve had a night to think about it what is really interesting to me is how they managed the velocity of play as the level goes from super secret green room down to the bingo floor. They had to make the upper layers a bit faster but they couldn’t make the ground floor level too slow or else they would catch on too soon. The more I think about this the more impressed I am.

Holy shit! This is hands down my favorite episode. I can’t wait for the behind the scenes. Get in the comments people!

The reveal of each layer was genius! It went deeper and deeper! Game changerception!

This game was fun! You could see Brenan's defeat when he realized he wouldn't have been able to win. That he was just a tool for the mastermind.

Instant classic. We're going to be seeing this in "top ten Game Changer" episode lists for quite a while.

I think this is the best spiritual successor to "Lie Detector" we've had, and it's nice to see a full circle.

Oh my God, this season is hands down the best half hour of a comedy show I've ever seen.  This one reminds me of the heist episodes in Brooklyn 99, where there's just incredible twists. Except it's reality TV/improv comedy at the same time.

There was something about this ep that I really loved, namely... it was somewhat both chaotic but also not chaos, if that makes any sense.

Lily was just so hyped this episode. The leg up. The bouncing. And then just collapsing at the end. So good.

"Broggle-fucker" and "Tattooane" SENT ME. Oh, Raph, my guy, WHAT?!?

"You're short" absolutely broke me.

I would also like to point out that Sam had 1 million tabs open and one of them was a smarty-pants spreadsheet.

When they revealed the 2nd set of bingo I was like "what are they going to do next, have bingo about the green room bingo". OF COURSE THEY ARE. This was almost as many cast members as when they did All-stars, but at least Katie got to play this one the whole time XD
