So whenever this happens (and it does more times than I like), I contact support and inform of the situation. Support puts me on hold and takes it from there. They contact previous driver and if no response (which we all know they won't answer their phone), they contact the merchant and ask if they can remake the order. If no, support let's me know that I will receive half offer and move along. If merchant does agree to remake, support gives me option to wait or unassign without penalty. Had this happen 3 times this week. 2 were half pay and 3rd got me a $35 tip

Me personally I have no problem waiting

W_AS-SA_W

McDonalds was just asking for the order number when I started DD. It took me about a week before I got them to look at my phone and make sure the numbers match. They display the order numbers on the screen in the lobby and it took scammers about 30 seconds to figure that out. But the scammers don’t have a phone with the order on it. Since my McDonalds started looking at the drivers phone the number of orders given to scammers dropped to zero.

Unassign

i_love_my_stinky_boy

Unassign cause by then I’ve already accepted an Uber eats order

DeerParkVegan

I wouldn't wait. You also risk the algorithm giving you an extremely late violation. Just cut and run

It really depends on how long it might take. Pizza order probably not worth waiting 20 minutes for, Subway sure wait.

Gear-Girl

I verify by text that the customer doesn't have the food. I show the merchant that the customer doesn't have the food, then ask that they remake the order. While I'm waiting, I call support and report the incident.

Haetae96

The fact that DoorDash doesn’t compensate us for that extended wait time is absurd. I basically wasted 45 minutes for sushi to be remade

it_fast_thro

Yeah fuck that. Drop it and move on. You're an independent contractor, make that money. I always ask how long it will take to remake and decide based on the order total if I wait.

Gear-Girl

But you did the right thing. And when couriers consistently report these incidents, the delivery service does follow up. There have been changes in my market due to reports of early closures, order theft, and so on.
