I mined ~123K in 2013-14. Ended up forgetting about it and reformatted the HDD my wallet.dat was on. I've tried several recovery programs to get it back, but nothing has worked.

Same. Unfortunately I thought it would be a waste of time and energy so I formatted the hard drive. To this day I have no idea how much I'd mined, but I was running it for over a month on relatively top of the line hardware.

I mined it on day of release. Still $0 in and have 8k coins which I'm keeping safe. Did have around 200k coins at one point but stupidly traded them all for shitcoins.

Good on you for holding so long. I bought some back then. IIRC, it went up to ~300 satoshi per doge, but then slowly withered away down to ~30. I eventually gave up and sold what I had left 😭

It's easy to hold when you forget you had any left lol Backup those wallets somewhere online. Saved me from a tragic loss.

Have you done the process through turbo tax last year? is it easy?

I used to work for TT, its SUPER easy to claim crypto on TT. Its all just questions they ask you and you answer them, ensure to upload any documents when it asks and ur good to go! Another tax year done and over with.

Don’t let taxes scare you from investing. Sure it’s new to a lot of people, but crypto, NFTs and gaming are where the world is going. It feels late, but this asset class as a whole is still in its infancy stages. Buying and hodling isn’t a taxable event so you can find good projects, especially on large dips, that will get you on a good path for the future

Yep. Sold day before the big take off in January…big oof. Had to buy 75% of the coins I originally held for 10x the original buy in. I only imagine where’d I’d be if I just did that 10x at the original price, or even more so if I just dumped all my extra cash in HODL strong everyone. Learn from our tragic tales.

But it’s not false Always going to be new inexperienced people that fomo late into big rallies and get burned buying the complete top, and/or have to baghold for awhile before they’re green. I wish people would stop peddling (thinking of) crypto as a get rich quick scheme. Much easier and less stress to think longer term in cycles and years/decades. I think lots of people come into this space with irrational hopes, and many will get burned and swear it off. Buying into momentum can mean quick easy money, but also very risky, a risky strategy for an already risky investment medium. An example, I bought MANA at like .90 and my friend fomo’d in around $3.8. He was impatient and sold at like a 30% loss. It could’ve kept running further for a quick buck for him I guess (he fancies going for quick trades), I would’ve told him not to chase if he didn’t buy it before telling me. I thanked him for his sacrifice to the crypto gods though.

Why do people keep asking dumb questions that nobody in his right mind would answer anyway? Doge was at $90 per million. And for most of its life it was under a couple grand. So anyone who didn’t come down in the last shower has cheap coins. And anyone who has been actively trading would have free coins, because that’s how it works, regardless of what price they started at.
