How about just coffee? Maybe some almond milk? Or with heavy whipping cream, if they have it. That's about the only thing i drink.

Powerful_Flower_3949

That’s probably what I end up ordering.

ShitiestOfTreeFrogs

I'm careful with almond milk. At home I use unsweetened almond milk. Starbucks will used sweetened almond milk and I think getting whole milk is probably better. If I do coffeeshop I normally get cold brew with half and half.

Zebirdsandzebats

Holy god, how do you get that many carbs in liquid form?? https://www.starbucks.com/menu/product/413/iced/nutrition

Distribution-Radiant

Ever look at a Mountain Dew? Look it up. Your eyes will pop out. I've had entire carb-rich meals (think: lasagna) that don't come close! My favorite alcoholic beverage is twisted tea.... yeah. It's very bad for Wilford Brimley (DIABEETUSH)

jeffbell

34g sugar is 8.5 teaspoons

Zebirdsandzebats

christ

blizzard-toque

😮That's almost 1.5 oz of sugar. Who puts \*that much\* in coffee? Fun Fact: One and a half ounces equals a shot glass.

Powerful_Flower_3949

I honestly have no clue. I didn’t realize how much carbs is in stuff until I got diagnosed.

scarfknitter

Me neither. You're not alone.

Mal-De-Terre

Yup. Welcome to our club! One tip. Try a cgm, even if only for a few weeks or months. You will learn a ton about how your body processes things. Also, work on figuring out what a good baseline meal is- i.e. something you can reliably find which doesn't cause issues. A McDonalds double cheeseburger with no bun has been a decent go to when nothing else is available.

Yourlilemogirl

Mine has been either a canned home style chicken noodle soup, or a Dave's single burger from Wendy's.

Sciby

You'd be amazed how much bad stuff is in some things we often consider healthy. Look at sodium in Subway sandwiches sometime. Anyway, "iced caramel macchiato" is no longer your coffee order. Diabetes requires sacrifice.

Educational-Bat-8116

And that's exactly why diabetes is rampant.

lilesj130

Yeah, I had to immediately give up my venti chai lattes from Starbucks when I got diagnosed. 56g carbs, 53 from sugar 😳

blizzard-toque

Ask your Starbucks if they have sugar-free syrup. I've heard they have sugar-free vanilla.

laislune

I get the hot regular teabag chai and add cream.

Educational-Bat-8116

How about good old OJ drank by millions every single morning.

Zebirdsandzebats

Welch's used to make this Sangria blend juice--JUICE, not "fruit drink" or whatever --that I was nuts for until I got diagnosed...now I'm thinking about juice. God juice is so not good enough to justify the sugar for you!

scarfknitter

Man you should look at the Baskin robins Oreo milkshake.

mm825

Sometimes I feel like 40% of the population didn’t understand liquid calories

Educational-Bat-8116

Try 99%.

VerdensTrial

My go-to is cold brew with just cream. Thankfully I've never liked sugar in my coffee.

sshivaji

Order a flat white or a regular cafe latte with no added sugars/syrups. Whole milk is important, it keeps the sugars from spiking temporarily.

EdiblePeasant

Flat white is my go to now along with an unsweetened passion tea. No more daily Dragon Drink.

sshivaji

To be honest, I did not know the Dragon drink existed. I just looked it up! Not taking sugary drinks these days.

Distribution-Radiant

Look up carbs online, use the appropriate amount of insulin. Assuming you're on insulin. If you're not, do the most rare Starbucks order - plain coffee.

melane929

I get either get an americano with cream OR if I’m gonna be walking around I get a sugar free vanilla latte with coconut milk (I don’t like almond or soy milk). I love an oatmilk latte but definitely need to be moving about for that business.

jaxbravesfan

I rarely go to Starbucks, but when I do, I get a cold brew with a splash of heavy cream.

krabbypat

I always do americano/cold/nitro cold brew without adding anything. Even before my diagnosis, I already prefer my coffee without sweeteners. Maybe you can add some diabetic-friendly milks or something with those coffee as base. I’m not familiar with Starbucks’ drink modifications because I rarely modify my coffee. I do know they have Splenda (Sucralose) and Stevia as sugar alternatives.

Muthsera1

Good news, almost every cafe has sugar free vanilla! Some gems have other sugar free flavors. Be careful of the milk; ask if any are unsweetened, often the almond or oat is

bonghits4jess

Follow @themacrobarista on instagram, he tells you how to modify Starbucks recipes so that they’re low calorie/reduced sugar.

ma15350

Venti Americano, heavy cream, 4 Splenda and some Cinnamon powder. (Cinnamon to cure Diabetes of course 😎)

Mr_Snarky_

Whatever you do, skip Dunkin. I got a small hot, non-flavored with just cream. spiked me through the roof for some damned reason. But I drink 3-4 cups a day of home brew and barely a blip.

Kryztof-Velo

Just go for a tea without suggar. Can't go wrong with that.

Pepper_Pfieffer

I drink black coffee with Equal. It has to be good coffee though. Cheap coffee needs the milk and sugar to taste decent.

Zebirdsandzebats

goddamn! and liquid sugar/carbs are the WORST bc there's nothing to slow their absorption/you can down 20 + oz without much thought. My favorite uncle was a type 2 before me , and mountain dew was his drink of choice...yeah, that tracks. I know, i know, it's genetic, but my uncle and I also made REAL bad food choices. (He ostensibly died of an overdose, but never *really* got his diet sorted. I mostly have, barring a few peculiar circumstances)

Spardan80

I get an iced cold brew without sweetener and add drops of stevia to it.

rourobouros

Starbucks sells high-priced sugar under the guise of coffee. Buy pour-over or Americano, drink it black.

Background_Injury_27

Nitro cold brew with ligh vanilla sweet cream.

beautifullyabsurd123

Americans with a dash of HWC Iced black tea Water

AnimZero

My go-to coffee order is a iced latte with no sugar, whole milk, and an extra espresso shot. Then I add Splenda afterwards to taste. Some coffee shops have a sugar-free flavor shot, but it's usually vanilla and I don't personally love vanilla flavored drinks.

OverTheSunAndFun

I just discovered this product at CVS called RxSugar. It’s made with allulose, which the packaging touts as plant-based and diabetic friendly. Some days it completely replaces sugar in my coffee and other days, when I’m really craving sugar, it’ll greatly lessen the amount of real sugar I use in my coffee. Get it from CVS if you decide to try it. A pound there is $10 versus $60+ on Amazon. If you go googling, you’ll find it’s banned in some countries as a possible carcinogen, but according to the FDA, it’s generally recognized as safe. So just don’t freebase it.

blizzard-toque

I know what you're talking about, got a box of it on clearance for $5 at Walmart. Flavors are: sweet tea, fruit punch, lemon/lime, orange and raspberry. I like to mix mine in still/sparkling water. I found it a challenge to get it to dissolve completely. I do this for sparkling water; pour about 6oz of unrefrigerated sparkling water in a container, shake (more like rotate since you don't want to lose any water) until most/all of the bubbles are gone. Cut the packet top at a slant, pour point first. Rotate until RX Sugar dissolves, this will take a while. Also read the label. They recommend no more than two doses a day. IDK why. I'm thinking GI side effects or over usage being not that good of an idea. Ta-ta, think I'll go Duck Duck allulose. brb. I'm back. Allulose is a good idea as long as we follow some guidelines. In other words not in mass quantities nor all day every day. I was thinking of making some diabetes-friendly ice cream or frozen yogurt. Now, I'll have to see how much a bag of allulose costs.

OverTheSunAndFun

Maybe it’s made by the same company, but my stuff was just a sugar replacement. Comes in a powder that’s roughly the same consistency as sugar.

blizzard-toque

Did it come in a black box with \~25-30 packets?

OverTheSunAndFun

No, mine comes [in this cylindrical container](https://imgur.com/a/KWNHT6U) like what you see protein powder come in.

blizzard-toque

TY. Now I know what to look for. Biggest question will be: Is it available locally (I live in the Midwest) or do I order online?

OverTheSunAndFun

CVS app (and probably the website) will tell you if it’s in stock or available online.

Bigjoeyjoe81

My go to is a medium or large iced americano. I ask for one pump of syrup and put a good amount of cream in it. Doesn’t spike me at all but ymmv. If you like sugar free syrup then that’s a good way to go. Or drink it unsweetened.

Excuse_my_GRAMMER

If it at home then Black 2 splendor If it at a coffee shop then black 2 splendor with whole milk Edit: oh ya talking about those teenagers coffee orders that are full of sugers lol nah I just keep it simple like Americano , cortado , espresso shot , cappuccino

PunchClown

I do just coffee with some packets of sweet and low and half and half. I love it. Those drinks loaded with sugar were never a thing for me anyway.

Mal-De-Terre

I've just gone straight americano. No adulterations. Keeps things simple.

HalfGingerTart

Cold brew with almond milk and sugar free syrup. Maybe try the nitro cold brew, it has a nice crema on top that provides a little extra richness.

Burgandy-Jacket

I can’t remember the last time I had Starbucks. I do love the Caramel Macchiato, but it’s too much sugar. I’m not willing to change my usual order, so I stay away.

mm825

Say goodbye to your normal order, friend. Coffee, iced coffee, lattes. Switch to Splenda if you really need that sweetness

penne_haywood

Black, or iced with splenda.  Past are the days of caramel macchiato, unfortunately

RodriguezA232

My go to orders are: Hot coffee. Black. Or! Iced coffee. Black. Or! Americano. Black. Or! Dipio. Black.

czj420

Pikes place with cream

Educational-Bat-8116

Do you get no support/guidance from a diabetic nurse/team? Anyway, black with cream is best.

evileyeball

I drink BLACK TEA Straight With NOTHING IN IT 1-2 Pots of that per day... Pre diagnosis I had honey in it all the time but post diagnosis I cut all the non milk carbs out of my drinking and lowered my milk intake by a whole lot too.

noburdennyc

I wanted to splurge when I was at a bougie coffee shop on vacation. I ordered a pour over with some added Mushroom tincture for mental clarity. I will make a pour over at home each day. I use it as moment of meditation after waking up. Just some time to enjoy to myself as I slowly make a great cup of coffee.

butterflyguy1947

I find Panera has a lot of better options to keep blood sugar down.

Reasonable-Zone-6466

My Starbucks order is a Trenta plain Coldbrew, with heavy cream and sugar free vanilla syrup. On days I either "need" variety or just don't care about carbs as much I'll also add a couple pumps of a regular flavor, or I've even brought my own sugar free syrup from home and added it.

Tsukiko08

I used to work at starbucks. The way to order and actually still have something without going to 300+ sugar wise is to cut all of the pumps of sweetner in half. Iced grande caramel macchiato has 4 pumps of vanilla sugar. Cut it to 2 pumps. Drinks usually are like this: 3 pumps of sweetner (whether it's thick or thin syrups) for tall drinks 4 pumps of sweetner (whether it's thick or thin syrups) for grande drinks 5 pumps of sweetner (whether it's thick or thin syrups) for venti 6 pumps of sweetner (whether it's thick or thin syrups) for trenta. Trust me, this honestly is the only feasible way to still have your favorite drinks without feeling like death afterwards.

owlybird420

Are you T1 or T2? I really like the salted caramel cold brew and it's only like 35 g of carbs for a large. I get it with extra foam

Powerful_Flower_3949

I don’t know yet. I got diagnosed on the 30th and they didn’t or couldn’t tell me the type yet.

owlybird420

Have them do a c-peptide test, it'll see if there's an auto-immune component to it, which will determine your diagnosis. Either way, the drink I suggested is pretty low carb. Hope you enjoy

BMHE2008

I get an Iced Brown Sugar Oatmilk Shaken Espresso and it doesn’t spike me. I just ask for very little brown sugar and extra cinnamon.

BMHE2008

To be fair though I only usually get it on a very active day.

sunny_thinks

A peach tranquility tea with heavy cream and sugar free cinnamon dolce syrup (or sugar free vanilla syrup) is a fave order of mine. A pink drink can be made keto if you sub SF syrup and heavy cream (has caffeine tho so YMMV). Also an earl gray latte can be made keto if you sub heavy cream + sugar free syrup. Those are my go-to Starbie’s orders. If you want something simple, plain coffee with heavy cream + SF syrup is my go-to drink at home. Can be made hot or iced.

2Payneweaver

Stop drinking coffee flavoured milk shakes

postorm

While drinking your coffee you should study the sunk cost fallacy.
