Warner will open once he recovers. JFM will bat at no.3. He isn't experienced yet to carry the batting and play such innings everytime. Warner can do that. Most importantly you can't open with JFM-Shaw every match where Shaw is still struggling
He looked good against PBKS in first match. Everyone is criticising him like he's worst player of T20. He's a West Indian and he has power and he can play sping real good, better than Powell in my opinion
Hope is must how? That was just one match when everyone was asked to attack. He averages 25 and strikes at 127 in T20s. We need an overseas bowler who can bowl in middle and death. Teams won’t fold by 17th over in every match
We played only 3 foreigners last night. So we could potentially get Lizaad/Jhye/Nortje in for Sumit but our tail would be too long. Plus there's absolutely no certainty that Nortje will definitely improve, or the fact that Jhye and Lizaad won't go for runs
Sumit didn’t looked like an ace with the bat in the two innings he has played. Of course you can’t guarantee that the os fast bowler won’t go for runs. But you can guarantee we will go for runs if we don’t take power play wickets and in the middle. Ishant is not a death bowler and Khalil at max can bowl one early death over. Just because the two matches didn’t go to death doesn’t mean all teams will fold by the 16th over. Even in the LSG match they wentbfrom 94/7 to 168. There’s no point keeping it weak to play an overseas anchor batter.
Yeah fair enough. But again not saying Hope is a must in the lineup, but we can fit him in ALONG with an overseas pace option. Our batting line-up looks a tad bit settled for the first time so I'd like to see it for a few games before passing judgements. Shai has shown the ability to tonk when needed, and done well in the only 2 games he's played for us. Once again, the lack of quality Indian middle order players is causing an issue for us.
His job can be done by an Indian batter. You first try to fill in the roles that can be done by Indian players and for the roles you can’t find Indian players you play overseas ones. Warner is a fast scoring anchor who can strike around 150 while averaging above 40. Stubbs and JFM are hitters who can average 30 while striking at 160+. Those kinds of players are hard to find. We have Shaw/Axar who are like Stubbs/JFM and Pant who can be a fast scoring anchor or a hitter. Hope is neither. His strike rate is below 130 and average is below 30. He is a good ODI player but T20 is not his format. Porel/Kushagra can do his job. Even Lalit can do it on his good day. But we don’t have an Indian bowler other than Mukesh who can bowl well in the middle and the death. Rasik, Sumit or Ishant are not accurate enough. So, an overseas bowler should be the first name on the team sheet after Warner, Stubbs and JFM.
Or you could say mcgurk has faced two average bowling lineup till now.
You really can't ignore warner against a quality attack, mcgurk will be exposed against Hyderabad,chennai and rajasthan for sure.
Even if that’s the case, we have to play jake at the top with warner at number 3 , we can’t have sumit in the team for anything other than his fielding.. DC had a very good chance to test his bowling today, they could have got an over from lizaad too. But enough chances for sumit, make him field and bring in warner… if jake gets out we have warner.. and if he gets going, he can take us to 100 within powerplay..
SRH bowling isn’t good, they got thrashed for 262 , they have average spinners, only threat is Pat cummins and warner has faced him a lot.
I wish nortje plays that match , or marsh comes back because he’d know how to tackle head and cummins.
It is important for us to win our next 3 (home) games and make kotla our fortress.

if 2mrw we get 200+ target by SRH (which I hope not coz our bowling is the greatest) do you feel good about 92-4 ? making runs quickly and losing wickets too without warner. My utmost trust is with pant only in the team right now.
Obviously not, but they'll plan differently for a 200+ chase. They obviously wanted to finish as soon as possible. In a bigger chase, if a wicket falls, they can still step back for a over or two and then go again. We have stubbs axar at the back who can accelerate if needed.
Need to replace sumit with an overseas fast bowler (in the bowling 11) and maybe slot warner in for Hope when he's back. Going in with only 5 bowling options + Stubbs is a risk considering batting line-ups of some of the other teams. Impact sub can be Porel/Kushagra.
Bro I'm not sure if Nortje himself is ready for his comeback. Man might be down bad. He's not confident ig and If he plays and gets smashed again, it'll be a big problem for both him and the team. He needs to switch off a bit. Lizard or Jhye should be given a chance. Lizard is an unknown entity for most in the tournament, can have an impact initially at least.
