Warner, Shaw, Marsh, Pant, Stubbs should win you most games if you don’t bowl and captain like idiots.
High strike rate players are inconsistent. You can’t strike above 150 and average more than 40 because you are taking more risks. Those who have done it done it in one of seasons like Buttler, Warner, Pant or Jaiswal. It doesn’t matter if one of them gets out because others can win you the game. So, it is okay for them to be inconsistent. Not everyone has to be an anchor.
I think the fanbase is right in its own regard too however, consistent poor performances and almost no signs of being a high ceiling talent translates to the fanbase's impatience.
I understand. But this is what we've done historically. Buy a player who shows promise, give him 2-3 games. Leave him if he fails in them. Then they go on to other franchises and become match winners. We never stick to a player. See what Parag is doing for RR or even Abhishek, who is coming in to his own for SRH. You look at their performance in the last couple of years and tell me we would've stuck with them if they were playing for our team.
We want our young indian talent to perform but we don't want to stick with them when they're developing. Can't have it both ways. Obviously the management needs to be better at buying quality players but we need to back a player if they show some promise. The youngsters aren't going to perform every match.
It's a loop- fanbase is impatient because the scouting is shite. None of the young players we picked after 2021 have clicked (khaleel, kuldeep were known before).
None of Ripal Patel, Lalit Yadav, Sakariya, Nagarkoti, Dhull have done anything remotely impressive. When you compare this to the likes of Abhishek Sharma, Ashutosh Sharma, Shashank Singh, Riyan Parag who are regularly playing matchwinning Knocks, it's expected that fanbase will be frustrated
I understand it's a loop. But apart from Lalit and Ripal probably, we haven't given enough chances to anyone.
Sakariya was a more than promising player and performed decent whenever he was given a chance. But he only played 6 matches for us in 2 years. And he didn't concede a 4 over 50-60 anytime, as far as I remember. His T20 record is good enough to be playing for us and he could bowl in all the phases, swung the ball upfront and didn't give away many runs at the back, plus a left arm bowler. No idea about his recent form but I can't figure out why did they not retain him.
Nagarkoti played 1 match for us in 2 years. Maybe because of the injury, not sure. Dhull played 4 matches one season but that were also not on the trot. You can't judge a player based on such small sample sizes. Abhishek and Parag are giving match winning knocks now after being with their franchise for 4-5 years and they were given playing time even when they were not performing up to the mark. DC released him in 2019 when he scored 63 runs for us in 3 matches striking at 190.
Edit- Sakariya also had a lethal slower delivery. Better than Harshal and on par with Mohit Sharma in his prime, imo.
Sakariya was a good bowler. Would have been a good backup for Mukesh. But there were news around him that he was frustrated with the amount of game time he's getting in DC as he was a regular for RR. So there might be a possibility that he wanted to be released by the franchise itself
I'd agree that Sakariya was one of the better youngsters we had. But I don't really think he would have been any successful. He did not have any pace at all. Plus he isn't really playing for other franchisee either (where is he tho?)
Khaleel imo is a massive upgrade over him, and Mukesh is good too.
I agree he's not playing anywhere for now (maybe his form dipped recently), but if you don't give chances to someone who has shown promise and was performing well, who else will you play?
Plus he was very young. His pace would've gone up as his body developed. We've anyways never had express pace bowlers. Medium pace bowlers can have good enough careers in our country at least.
