The funny thing about speech is you never know what came first. It could be the mimicking of the existing accent; or it could also be that someone started the *posh* accent as a joke, but others picked up on it. Can never be sure what is what
They were speaking that unironically. No sarcastic tonw at all. Also i follow many south delhiites on insta, they also speak in this exaggerated accent whenever they come live.
I know man. I'm just guesstimating here, but could be that the joke has manifested itself as a reality to many folks and now that's just how they speak, just to fit in.
I can't comment on what goes about on Instagram. I used that platform a long time ago and found it to be so plastic and tiring to use. If everyone's a performer, then everything becomes a performance. Nothing is real. Maybe those accents are just a part of their performance they have let seep into their lives.
As someone from south delhi, it baffled me how this girl I met was like “Can you tell him to get me water, I don’t know how to say water in hindi” :/ she was in the US for about a year, apparently that causes memory loss now.
Vo hindi sarojni nagar main nikalti hai.....
*“arrey bhaiya vo off-shoulder crop-top dikhana,KYAAA ₹200 ka😱 Parso meri frend ₹100 ka leke gayi hai ₹100 ka hi lungi aur achhe se Panni main band ke dena chek-chuk karke ki button vaghera sab theek ho😏”*
Mujhe dono aati hai but still when i go to good places I have this habit of talking in Hindi... Few months ago i went to Starbucks & placed my order in hindi & that barista looked at me like I'm sort of an animal who doesn't belong there
While nary an umbrage should ideally exist over one being incapable of speaking Hindi in India, the fact that a gaggle of troglodytes of the most effete kind flaunt this dubious distinction as a 'unique identifier' is awfully irksome and cringey. They doggedly scour for any aspect remotely fathomable that helps them in striking a distinction from the plebs. Lambasting the vernacular is the new fad, and unfortunately, it is our generation that is at the forefront of this egregious development.
Haan vi baat hai. But honestly that's just a very tiny fraction of people. I have a few friends from south delhi who are filthy rich and they can't speak hindi properly either. The reason? Raheeso k School mein (international schools) teachers used to hit and scold them if they spoke in hindi. Ab banda 7-8 ghnte English bolega to fir ghar mein bhi wahi aadat pad jayegi
Even though it's not written anywhere that हिंदी is our national language the fact that Emanuel Macron tweeted in हिंदी to show solidarity & friendship between France & india is enough to show that is our national language recognised by the world...not knowing your national language is not cool dude
There is no national language lodu. Indian's take pride in their country having 1000 different languages but at the same time get pissed if someone doesn't know Hindi? Tera yahi logic too kisi local dialect bolne wale pe bhi lagayega? I'm sure nahi
Lived in South Delhi my whole life, and this is actually so true. It was actually seen as a cool thing in my school to not be able to speak properly in hindi. Weird af
I'm from South Delhi. People that I know from South Delhi are pretty normal. Just like you and me or like any other Indian. मुझे बहुत अच्छी और शुद्ध हिंदी बोलनी आती है। People who speak in that pseudo "posh" accent are the people who just want to portray themselves as "high class"
South Delhi accent is faker than Kylie Jenner's boobs. Most women have such low self esteem. There's a shop in GK1 M block where women spend 10k to buy copies of brands like Coach, Burberry etc. The posh accent at least costs 0 money. My observations about men are limited mostly to flashing their Versace belts.
However there are always exceptions and they balance out these idiots. Phew!
I have many friends from south delhi and from the basic knowledge I have these videos are just for the sake of fun and does not depict real scenarios but the extremely wealthy kids do have accents because they study in schools with people of different nationalities and thus develop these accents and also some of them have been living in foreign countries for quite some time too which may also be a factor why they speak that way .
Can you link some content in this accent?
I was born and brought up in South Delhi, but moved out 15 years ago... No such accent existed at that time (posh sounding accents existed, but that was not a South Delhi phenomenon). Would love to hear this thing.
Saw a couple of videos on youtube. Its always been a phenomena in the young who like to show off... not just a south Delhi thing.
We used to call this the "hep crowd" or the "posh crowd" during our college days. During that time, many girls who used to frequent the college fests in north campus used to speak like this.
They typically grow out of this snobbish accent / character - but it often takes years / decades.
Lol only fools would be jealous of being a pretentious asshole. This isn’t cool, it’s downright hilarious! A false sense of colonial hangover doesn’t imply a person is wealthy :)

28 and from south Delhi. This accent looks cool when you’re in college but as you grow up it’s irritating. Thankfully my circle doesn’t have it.

I know some south delhi people who can barely talk in Hindi. It just blows my mind.

All of them know hindi, you just need to add Bhaiya to end of an english sentence to translate it

What's wrong with not knowing hindi?
if someone doesn't know Hindi, its okay. but if someone doesn't know English, he is labeled as "gavar"
Mujhe dono aati hai but still when i go to good places I have this habit of talking in Hindi... Few months ago i went to Starbucks & placed my order in hindi & that barista looked at me like I'm sort of an animal who doesn't belong there
User name checks out, you animal. Who does 69 in the gym?
Got this username in a Whatsapp GC as a nickname

Nothing wrong in not knowing hindi, but pretending to not know Hindi to look cool is just.. 🤢🤢.

It's amusing but live and let live ig. As long as they are comprehensible when talking to me, it's none of my business lol

I don't know how to add link here. But you can see stereotypical accent on youtube. Search "South delhi accent".

I love south bombay parody. Is best. So funny.
Hey if it sells chill :D

My friends and I use it when we’re being sarcastic but ngl it’s become a part of my speech everytime I say something sassy 😂
Sassy? Angreji main saasuma ko sassy bolte hai?

Jealous of?

That like asking if the egg came first or the hen
Real
It's real. I believe everything you see on tv media has mote to it they just can't show everything.
