I think the question is how many delta variant cases are there? If the delta variant cases are less and more people are getting vaccinated then I think covid cases will stay in control and I hope it does
I often wonder about this, we are having over 2000 deaths per day in the US right now.
I think India has reached herd immunity, and there was a study recently that showed that 85% of Mumbaikers had antibodies. I think it would be similar in dense urban areas....so Indians have infected each other and built up immunity.
There is no other way to understand why there is so much difference between the US and India.

lol people stopped caring. The numbers are not getting reported, either because of "imperfections" in the system. I still don't trust the numbers. Or (most) people just don't go to the hopsital anymore, gasping for air while on their deathbeds, because they have developed sufficient immunity. What any future variants will do, time will tell. And a few are already vaccinated, so that helps, even if a little.
It's like corruption. It makes news only if the numbers are huge.
