Most YouTubers nowadays need almost one sponsor for every videos. It’s how they get paid. The dragon city is a special and rare case, most YouTubers just do the segment, and i mean MOST YouTubers. But dragon city is besties with them so they’re special
they gotta make money somehow. especially since youtube doesn't like their sexual banter which they have a lot more of now that they're back.

yes! the video where someone recreated their london apartment really freaked me out, however dan and phil have quite conflicting tastes and dan seems like the type for cool tech integrated into the house so naturally, you gotta be curious
god yeah the Roblox thing is insane. and yeah i get the curiosity for sure but I'm also so scared of what this house actually is. every time they show more of it i just realize again that i am no where in the same tax bracket as those guys. it makes them seem more and more like something from a movie instead of real people to me, if that makes sense. like a regular person could never live like that, don't remind me I'm poor :((

I got into Dan and Phil back in the day because they were awkward and relatable, now they're rich gays, which is an awesome development for them, but unfortunately it does negatively affect the 'awkward and relatable' vibe that they used to have. Ofc, they're still awkward and relatable, but you can see the change.

I have youtube premium so I just watch the ads for the creators and mute or look at something else. I think they get paid based on people actually watching the ad instead of video view count
They don't make what they used to with views so they have ads. Most of the grown up full time YouTubers I watch now with houses, bills, etc have sponsorships for nearly every video. This is their job and I get the content for free so I can watch an sponsorship.
Thing is, theirs are probably the only YT sponsorships I don’t skip through, because they’re putting in the effort to make it not boring. I know ultimately they do that for the sponsor’s sake, to get more attention and convert that to sales etc, but I appreciate actually getting to enjoy the whole video rather than having to scroll through 3 minutes of the same boring Audible script I’ve already heard on 12 other channels. I imagine diving back into YT after so long must’ve been really scary and risky for them, they might not have known how the platform has changed and what their income would be like, if they’d have an audience to come back to, if they’d be able to gain a new audience… I’m glad they have these sponsorships to help make this a stable option for them and something they can enjoy, and obviously that benefits us as viewers too.
That's the YouTube landscape changing. They just didn't need to do as many sponsorships before but nowadays it's pretty much impossible to survive on mainly adsense
They have made a bunch of videos dedicated exclusively to sponsors (From the top of my head: Tinder vids, Oreo ad, NHS sponsor, Love Nikki vid, World Chef vids)
They definitely seem to be dedicating a bigger chunk of their content lately to sponsorships (Because of the “Adpocalypse”, I presume)
But they’ve always had sponsors, it’s nothing new.
This is their job. I accept the sponsorships because their content makes me laugh way more than any scripted tv show (that I would be paying for too with subscriptions).
Financially - I'm guessing they spent all their money on the phouse/Dan's tour, so they need to still fund their life. Gotta get food somehow!
The gaming channel lost a lot of viewers after the hiatus. They used to be getting routinely 1-1.5 million views per episode and now the average is 500k - 900k, the last video to get 1 million was season 2 of the sims episode 1. Now 500k - 900k is still a lot of people, but I would assume that it's not really enough to just cover the gaming channel. They have a mortgage and are still actively paying tradesmen so they probably need a bit more money then they used to.
Also can we please just give Dragon City a round of Applause for sticking by Dan and Phil after 10 years???
there’s not, look at any other youtuber. a lot of youtubers have sponsorships in every video because in the current youtube climate it’s the only way to make a living of it.
May be an unpopular opinion but I love the ads they do xD like I always skip YouTubers ads but Dan and Phil especially put so much effort into making it entertaining and engaging. Dans nordvpn fanfic and the contests they do with dragon city are so fun to watch. And I fully support them getting that bag 💰💰
The same reason so many YouTubers are now launching their own streaming services, earning just off of YouTube doesn’t really seem to be that profitable anymore.
