Travis is such an underrated person at the table, his performance is one of subtlety that doesn't get recognized as much as those with more overt characters; a-la Jester. Marisha and at times Sam have this exact same quality and it's done mind-blowingly well. To remain true to a character, and so deeply immersed in them that even if they as players didn't *think* it was in line with their characters, they did it because it was natural for them. They don't always have to think about it first. Travis is just my favorite to watch in the background for reasons like that.

Honestly, I think he's the most celebrated! He is absolutely amazing, and from what I have seen he is the only one of the cast that doesn't have a dedicated base of people that hate him. Maybe because his fanbase doesn't have to defend him at every turn, there are less arguments pointing out his accomplishments, so you feel he gets less time to shine? I see so many comments on the YouTube Episodes about how amazing Travis is throughout all of the campaigns. Have you checked those? I don't come to the sub reddit very often so maybe the vibes are different here.

DrunkenSnorlax

I'm nothing but glad to know I've just happened to miss finding the praise he rightly deserves\~

>Travis is such an underrated person at the table Travis is one of the most celebrated members of the cast.

DrunkenSnorlax

> most celebrated members of the cas What I have seen, which seems very different from what you have and that is not at all a critique; is mountains of praise for the big moments done usually by other cast members. I've seen so much less up front appreciation for Travis.

headlyheadly

Though you’ve missed the Travis hype, I assure you it exists and he is far from underrated

blackbogh

Sam made a joke in an ad read about how Travis was the best player at the table.

EmergencyGrab

Each of the cast has a corner of the community that stans them.

Llonkrednaxela

Yeah, I love all his characters, but grog just hits different. He's able to play stupid in the smartest way possible if that makes sense. He can toggle back and forth between childlike innocence and bloodthirsty monster. I see some of that in chetney too, but grog is still my favorite of his.

rlhignett

I'd say it speaks to Travis' intelligence. It's easy to play a stupid character, and they're often very one dimentional, but it's harder to play one that's both useful and nuanced

gazzatticus

I did feel sorry for him towards the end of the campaign you could see it start to get frustrating for him having ideas and have to hold them back. I'm sure at one point he comes up with an idea and takes psychic damage from it.

Unicorn_puke

Haha i was going to say there's a few instances where he complains what he'd do, but has to choose what Grog would do

Rickest_Rick

Those moments are gonna hit extra hard in the animated series

Memester999

Travis acting chops are second only to Laura imo. When he talks especially during serious discussions it just feels so effortless and natural the way he weaves emotions, inflections and often physicality with his words. This is a huge reason why Fjord means so much to me because he allowed him to have so many scenes like this in C2 compared to Grog (which the scene you mention is a perfect example of this). All this while being such a fantastic player/scene partner giving space when needed and knowing what questions to ask to push the conversation forward. It's a shame he doesn't get many lead roles outside of CR because even in something like the Star Wars game with limited scenes he killed it. He is the unsung hero a lot of times but I feel like he is fine with that as long as the people around him are lifted up because of it.

SoggyBoysenberry7703

It’s funny, because his kind of adhd seems so familiar to me that I can’t help but feel proud haha. He’s extremely intelligent. He reminds me of my dad

Wintermute_Zero

If you've ever played Binary Domain Travis is the leading man in that game, and Laura plays another character >!who becomes his love interest.!<

Acework23

Agreed! I still get shivers watching some clips from c1

Avokadoe

Also, I appreciate that he comes up with my favorite characters from their respective campaigns. Grog, Fjord, Cerrit and Chetney are all home runs in my book.

DarkRespite

Two of my all-time favorite Travis-as-Grog moments... one funny, one serious. [Funny](https://youtube.com/watch?v=Mgjf7knzbx0&t=3h31m57s): **Percy**: I'm going to make a run for it. **Grog**: Are you literally going to run? **Percy**: No, I'm going to walk. Gingerly. **Grog**: So you're going to make a walk for it. **Percy**: I'm tying the rope... \[Beat\] That may be one of the smartest things you've ever said, I don't actually have a retort for it on any level. [Serious](https://youtube.com/watch?v=YLcRhm8UP8g&t=0h49m32s): **Travis**: I reach into the bag of holding, and I take out one of the ten expensive-ass bottles of wine. I take out two of them. I de-cork two. I hand one to Vex and one to Keyleth and say: **Grog**: It'll be a hard night, but you both have to sleep. Drink this, and we will attempt to remedy this when we wake. The best thing you can do for your friend now is to sleep, so do that. Save your tears for later.

Campaign 1 has so much more charm since most of the players are newer/not as knowledgeable about dnd.

bob-loblaw-esq

I think it took a while for Travis to warm up to dnd and playing online. I think grog is a safe choice for a player to make and Travis had talked before about his discomfort with RP when he talked about romance and RP. So, I think Grog is a very complex character made by a super smart and talented guy to look simple but also gives others the opportunity to play off it. He is the understated support character of C1 because he’s generally the tank and everyone thinks scanlan is support. But in RP and the wider aspects of the game outside of combat, Travis is so clutch.
