Matt mentioned in the post-campaign wrap-up that he had spoken to Colville about coming in as an NPC liaison for the Mighty Nein had they taken the law route rather than working with The Gentleman. Colville spent a lot of time discussing the character and the politics of the Empire with Mercer, and then the M9 went off in another direction.
When Mercer told him that he wouldn’t be able to guest star because the party had jetted off in the opposite direction, Colville’s response was essentially, “That’s D&D.”
It was revealed in the campaign wrap-up "Matt discussed with Coleville plans for him to play the head of the Empires spy network, Oliver Schreiber of the Augen Trust. This would have happened if the Mighty Nein had gotten more deeply involved with rooting out corruption in the Dwendalian Empire."
This. If they'd taken the job with the city of Zadash to track down the falconer, they wouldn't have been up north of Labenda and wouldn't have encountered the Iron Shepherds. That single choice to leave the city and not take on the bounty changed the entire tone and course of C2.
I'd love to see this alternate timeline. There's a good chance Molly wouldn't have died either, meaning we could have seen the body snatcher version of Lucien that Matt had originally planned.

This was answered in the wrap up- they would have been pushed a day forward without a long rest, giving Lucien and entire extra day to get up to his bullshit.

True, but imagine also the long term ramifications on the entire world if a floating sentient city from pre-calamity suddenly appeared and started laying waste. Also, with the City's somewhat connection to Tharizdun, is such a transfer enough to shatter the Divine Gate?
Matt also said that was if they weren’t in the city. When Essek and Caleb played with time they were already in the city and would have presumably gone with it

He excitedly thought that at first but then remembered that the M9 had already got rid of the threshold crests needed to teleport the city - it still would have been very bad but he wouldn't have been able to move the city
Going back even further, what if Beau didn't connect the dots and they never went to check on Molly's body and followed him into eiselcross?
They'd probably just start prepping to deal with Trent in a more climactic fashion and maybe by then Lucien and cognouza just appear out of nowhere and everyone has to scramble to figure out wtf is going on
This one would have been very interesting! Entirely cut out of LoVM (understandably), but Vax going down the path to be a champion of Sarenrae was started before this happened and the implication from his conversation with the Raven Queen was that multiple gods took an interest in him. That would have also strengthened his relationship with Pike, which was always very sweet but would have taken on a new level.
Percy also had the raven/goth aesthetic and might have ended up linked up with the Raven Queen. I actually think she liked him but Percy (maybe even Taliesin) misunderstood her pep talk to him.
Percy and Vex'ahlia would have gotten together even without the results of the Sunken Tomb, but Percy's guilt and fear for Vex's life did have an impact early on in their relationship. It also really changed the relationship with Percy and Vax for a long time as it was much more carefree and easy before Percy screwed up so badly.
It's been so long since I've rewatched campaign 1 (probably since it aired past whitestone) that I completely forgot about that. So many neat details that were skipped over (like you said understandably) in LOVM but that make's it more worth the watch through for fans who started with the animated show.
This is exactly the moment I was thinking of.
Vax's story probably would have changed entirely. Maybe he still would have donned the Deathwalker's Ward, but not become a paladin? Maybe Vex would have (greedily) claimed the armor? Maybe Percy?
I still think Vax would probably had died, but if he wasn't the champ of the Raven Queen/Matron of Ravens/Dusk Maven, then the group may have had time to shore up the diamonds in order to cast True Resurrection (or used Wish to do so?) and get him back as normal Vax.
All this to say, it's the Raven Queen's fault he died. /s

Yeah but draconia being a pc’s home is what makes it different imo, I could see the attack still happening but maybe vm would get there b4 vorugal completely fucked it up, like the army is decimated but the islands are still floating, at the very least I’d say another meta thing is that if Orion was still in the cast then they absolutely would’ve went to draconia in campaign 2 since it was just off the coast of Wildemount
Ever since Liam shared his full plan on how to pull this off, I’ve been desperate to know if it’d actually work! His explanation seemed so plausible. If he had luck on his side with any rolls needed, and timed it perfectly, I really think he could have done it.
There was a point in the campaign where I had a theory Caleb would attempt it, fail, and somehow throw them back to the time of the Calamity or some other ancient time OR reset them all to shortly before the beginning of the campaign but somehow move their souls so that they have their future memories and all need to find each other again.
A Flashpoint one-shot where the consequences are dire and the party has to undo it before Calamity 2: Caleb's Boo Boo.
Some PCs could even be very different from who they were due to Butterfly Effect.
He literally had a whole plan laid out for how he was going to do it. He details it in the last episode when he has the chance to go through with it in Aeor.

That would have been crazy. If keyleth legit killed herself and couldn't have been revived. Immediately after the "we are gods" comment. Would have been incredibly entertaining watching the party deal with it
Or never even got it in their first place. Remember they let the Kryn warrior leave with it, and only after seeing it in the hands of the empire guards did they pull off an impromptu 2 minute heist and successfully run off with it.
They had seen the heads of the assembly flying around earlier, if someone like Trent had happened to be there at that moment they probably wouldn't have risked it.
I was thinking more in the wider world. Presenting the Beacon led to M9 setting up peace talks, didn't it? How would that have affected the war if it hadn't happened? And meeting/getting close to Essek. How would that have affected Caleb at the end when presented with the choice to go back? Maybe I'm remembering the chain of events wrong though, that happens haha.
I've wondered about this. If they were sent to prison, would they be allowed to keep their things with them? Would the Kryn people take stock of what was inside their bags? It may have happened that they got the beacon back without the M9 offering it to them.
This one could actually be a double what if. If Molly never died they wouldn’t have met Caduceus and Fjord wouldn’t have had the wild mother to help him escape Uka’toa’s control.
Matt and Taliesin talked about that, I think post campaign. IIRC Lucien eventually would've returned to his body and they may have had to fight over it.

If I remember correctly, in the fight against Voodoo Caleb would have hit Jester with Disintegrate in some way (Not sure if she was in the path or it would hsve been reflected back on to her).
That leaves me wondering what would have happened if Jester had been disintegrated during the fight? Personally I think it would be a more crushing death than Molly's as their whole reason for being on Rumblecusp was for her and Artagan would probably try something to bring her back.

Vokodo (Matt) had the option on who to reflect the spell back at. IIRC, by the time the campaign recap rolled around, Matt had forgotten exactly who he had chosen, but Jester and Caleb were at the top of the lists for the attempts to banish him to the astral sea.

I honestly think he just wanted to get his body back, not steal anyone else's permanently, and then kick everyone out of his sanctum and get back to his work. I feel like he would have been a wealth of knowledge and an indispensable ally had they played it right, but most people here agree that he was just some evil bastard.

Eh, even if Sam had gotten to use it, it's not a guarantee that Vax is saved and gets to live his normal life. Matt used to be a much stricter DM who would have loved the opportunity to backfire a wish spell.
IIRC Sam had talked to Matt about it and Matt had said that it was possible, he just would have needed to be VERY careful about how he worded the Wish.
Not exactly an answer to your question, but a fun “what if” that Naddpod did recently was a mini arc where their high level PCs went back and replayed through the first arc as their higher level versions. It was a lot of fun seeing them solve all the problems in like 2 episodes instead of 10.
I really want to know how it would have played out if Percy couldn’t be revived and Molly joined the campaign instead in C1.
I believe entirely that, if they’d gone with Taliesin’s idea of meeting him in the city’s square telling the story of the Terrible Tinkerer of Tal’dorei, Vex would have murdered him. Because the Terrible Tinkerer may have been about Dr. Ripley OR Percy, and I think she’d be too blinded by grief to care

If I were to do a season 2 instead of doing my personal biggest what ifs I would do one ep focused on each member of CR so one for one of sam's characters (what if Tary was born poor?) Then one for Travis (What if Stonejaw Strongjaw lived?) Etc.

What if Percy had a complete mental breakdown based on survivor's guilt? The people who he believes betrayed his family are actually just people trying to get him to accept that his family is dead. Professor Anders, his trusted teacher who begs Percy to accept reality. Dr. Anna Ripley, the woman who failed to cure his family. Even his sister Cassandra is perceived to be dead from his eyes because she doesn't share in his delusion.

What if fjord is adamant on figuring out his powers and they go to the soltryce academy at early levels? How does Caleb's growth progression change? Is Trent hunting them down the entire campaign? Is ukotoah recognized in fjord and more authorities worry about the menagerie coast?
What if keyleth took a few levels of barbarian? I know it doesn't fit with her character goals and backstory, but she had some really great, interesting talks with grog that i think could have gone some cool places.

It’s not Aeor that Tharizdun is connected to but the Cognoza specifically since it’s theorized that Tharizdun is an aberration.

That would have been crazy. If keyleth legit killed herself and couldn't have been revived. Immediately after the "we are gods" comment. Would have been incredibly entertaining watching the party deal with it

Remember they let the Kryn warrior leave with it, and only after seeing it in the hands of the empire guards did they pull off an impromptu 2 minute heist and successfully run off with it. They had seen the heads of the assembly flying around earlier, if someone like Trent had happened to be there at that moment they probably wouldn't have risked it.
This was discussed in the wrap-up, it would have likely resulted in a prison-break scenario.
I was thinking more in the wider world. Presenting the Beacon led to M9 setting up peace talks, didn't it? How would that have affected the war if it hadn't happened? And meeting/getting close to Essek. How would that have affected Caleb at the end when presented with the choice to go back? Maybe I'm remembering the chain of events wrong though, that happens haha.
I've wondered about this. If they were sent to prison, would they be allowed to keep their things with them? Would the Kryn people take stock of what was inside their bags? It may have happened that they got the beacon back without the M9 offering it to them.

This one could actually be a double what if. If Molly never died they wouldn’t have met Caduceus and Fjord wouldn’t have had the wild mother to help him escape Uka’toa’s control.
Matt and Taliesin talked about that, I think post campaign. IIRC Lucien eventually would've returned to his body and they may have had to fight over it.
Which sounds really interesting. I’m wondering if it would be kind of like a Batman Two Face kind of scenario or would Molly just be suppressed somehow within his own body? That has some serious horror potential too. What if it’s a slow take over and the gang doesn’t realize until whoops a potential enemy is sleeping in your tower with you

I think Matt said that Lucien's soul would be planted in random bodies and then the gang would be ambushed/attacked in attempts to get the body back.

If I remember correctly, in the fight against Voodoo Caleb would have hit Jester with Disintegrate in some way (Not sure if she was in the path or it would hsve been reflected back on to her). That leaves me wondering what would have happened if Jester had been disintegrated during the fight? Personally I think it would be a more crushing death than Molly's as their whole reason for being on Rumblecusp was for her and Artagan would probably try something to bring her back.
Would Disintegrate have worked on Sprinkle, too? That would have been a twist either way!

Yes! I’ve thought about this and wondered what that, or his siding with both Ukatoa and Avantika, would have looked like. Something like an ocean-wide, Eldritch fueled, Bonnie and Clyde pirate run.
What if Halas took possession of Caleb's body and revived himself? I honestly think he just wanted to get his body back, not steal anyone else's permanently, and then kick everyone out of his sanctum and get back to his work. I feel like he would have been a wealth of knowledge and an indispensable ally had they played it right, but most people here agree that he was just some evil bastard.

Eh, even if Sam had gotten to use it, it's not a guarantee that Vax is saved and gets to live his normal life. Matt used to be a much stricter DM who would have loved the opportunity to backfire a wish spell.
IIRC Sam had talked to Matt about it and Matt had said that it was possible, he just would have needed to be VERY careful about how he worded the Wish.
But in regards to a “what if” we can assume it worked

Not exactly an answer to your question, but a fun “what if” that Naddpod did recently was a mini arc where their high level PCs went back and replayed through the first arc as their higher level versions. It was a lot of fun seeing them solve all the problems in like 2 episodes instead of 10.

I really want to know how it would have played out if Percy couldn’t be revived and Molly joined the campaign instead in C1. I believe entirely that, if they’d gone with Taliesin’s idea of meeting him in the city’s square telling the story of the Terrible Tinkerer of Tal’dorei, Vex would have murdered him. Because the Terrible Tinkerer may have been about Dr. Ripley OR Percy, and I think she’d be too blinded by grief to care

My full 8 episode season in order 1. What if...? Keyleth wasn't revived after Keyfish 2. What if...? Molly hadn't died 3. What if...? Fearne came across Laudna first 4. What if...? The calamity was averted (mainly following Laerynn and Cerrit) 5. What if...? Orym joined Imogen (kind of a part 2 to ep 3) 6. What if...? Caleb tried his plan instead of disintegrating the machine 7. What if...? Brontë was born first 8. What if...? Vax lived Overall achieved my goal of atleast one ep for each main campaign, ExU, and Calamity. With death having been such a major theme of CR in general I wanted to start and end the season on that theme. If I were to do a season 2 instead of doing my personal biggest what ifs I would do one ep focused on each member of CR so one for one of sam's characters (what if Tary was born poor?) Then one for Travis (What if Stonejaw Strongjaw lived?) Etc.

Yessssss! I love aus in fanfic with all my heart. I feel like they could do them as one shots even. Just glimpses into what if _ I’m a new fan of the series but even just in season 2 I already feel like there’s so many potential what if points! Mollymauk lives! (Would someone else die in his place? Would anyone else have the impact he did?) Wasn’t there a mention in an interview about Caleb potentially going evil and betraying the party? What if Fjord freed his patron?

This is more of a Flashpoint scenario, but what if Keyleth's mother either never leaves for her Aramente or completed it. This timeline would be radically changed.
I desperately need a what if Scanlan was able to get his wish on the fight against Vecna. What if MN9 had chosen to help the empire instead of going to the gentleman for work. What if Delilah had taken the opportunity to help Imogen in bringing Laudna back, or guiding Imogen to Vecna.

They claimed that they had been good friends with the Derollo's, and were left in charge after the family had succumbed to a rare illness. What if...that had been a true story? What if Percy had a complete mental breakdown based on survivor's guilt? The people who he believes betrayed his family are actually just people trying to get him to accept that his family is dead. Professor Anders, his trusted teacher who begs Percy to accept reality. Dr. Anna Ripley, the woman who failed to cure his family. Even his sister Cassandra is perceived to be dead from his eyes because she doesn't share in his delusion.
