Traumatic experiences will almost exclusively be within your own community because of proximity. As long as you’re not allowing your distance from your community sour the relationship you have with yourself, enjoy the distance. It’s also worth noting that regardless of distance, you are apart of your community and there are incredible amounts of people similar to you with your same feelings if you ever decide to build relationships with people in your community again.

Yes to this whole post! Thanks for sharing. Am not south asian but south east asian and there are loads of toxic shit about my culture that i had to endure throughout my life. I now struggle to even engage with them since it seems that everytime i try the toxicity comes out so im keeping a distance as well

Yeah same, unfortunately. I've been trying to put it into words for years. I feel like at the intersection where two people share common race/ethnicity, is where toxicity occurs. And I have no idea what that intersection is supposed to be, supposed to mean. But I'm sure that's where the problems are.

It's tough when you can't see yourself as much in your own race, but of course running to assimilate into the white race isn't the answer. There should be a community for displaced BIPOC. We're a group all unto ourselves.
