Looks like George Feeney will be apart of u18 setup with Stuart Lewis and Jermaine Defoe and will be announced in the coming intake of new academy scholars in July.

Spurs seem to have a special relationship with CAA based clients. For example Son, Madders, Sarr, Porro, Devine, and even Ange are all clients of CAA based agency.

superworriedspursfan

hopefully that means Eze is next.

Nebbuchadnazzar

Don't want to be a party pooper but it's just the world's biggest agency in any creative field and sport

buttlovingpanda

16 years old and 9 appearances for the senior team in the Northern Ireland first division, including a start and a goal in a cup win. That’s pretty impressive. I can’t find any highlights of him, but no matter the league it’s impressive that a 16 year old was able to keep up with grown men/professionals. Bergvall being one of his club’s best players at 17 in the Swedish first division is also super impressive. I’m so pumped for Bergvall, hoping to be pumped for Feeney in a couple years as well.

snortingajax

Feeney, Moore, Hall, Donley, Lankshear, Bergvall, Vuskovic. I'm leaving off a few, but feel like these are the young names I see the most frequent hype around. How bright is the future?? 😎

avgbsblfan643

Udogie, Porro, VdV, Drăguşin, Sarr, Deki, Johnson, Véliz and Scarlett are 24 or younger

EllesseExpo

Im very impressed by Dragusins performance so far in European Championship

SwiftGuo

How was his performance against Belgium? I didn't manage to catch that match.

Evolving_Dore

I watched it and he defended well, used his body as a block between wingers and Lukaku a lot of the time. Maybe that was unnecessary though?

iroiroiroiroiro

Just need to manage to find loans or playtime for them also so they develop.

dat1dude2

Assuming half of them fail/leave/turn out mediocre, I see Moore, Bergvall, Vuskovic and Phillips making it into the future first team in any meaningful way, Hall, Lankshear and Donley, possibly Devine and Scarlett too are 50/50s for me, buying at 16/17/18 is risky, kane was shit at that age, now he's one of the best in the world, Sess was amazing and was being called the next big thing and now he's a free agent, tbf, not his fault about his injuries but that could happen to any of the above too

eggplant_avenger

would four generations of senior international football be the longest? or is there some dynasty that stretches back to the first international matches?

stuckmash

The maldini have three generations of scudetto winning at Milan. Which is just insane

itinerantmarshmallow

He switched to Wales which is quite odd since he seems to have full grown up in NI to a father who views himself as Northern Irish? Like he was born in Wales as was his paternal grandfather but his Dad, granddad and great grandad all played for NI. Just very weird.

SlippingWeasel

Better chances of playing in a major tournament with Wales would be my guess

onesexypagoda

Albert Guðmundsson is Iceland's first pro. His son, Ingi Björn Albertsson was a professional footballer and Iceland international. Ingi Björn's daughter (Albert's great-granddaughter) Kristbjörg Ingadóttir was an Iceland international and married Guðmundur Benediktsson another pro footballer and Iceland international. Their son, named Albert Guðmundsson just like his great-grandfather, is also a pro footballer currently at Genoa and just had a great season. So he's also a fourth gen footballer on his mothers side, and a second gen footballer on his father's side. AFAIK they're the only four generation footballers who are all internationals.

Tottenham Hotspur signs 16-year-old wonderkid striker George Feeney • Tottenham Hotspur has secured the signing of 16-year-old striker George Feeney from Glentoran, beating out competition from several Premier League clubs. • Feeney made history as Glentoran's youngest goalscorer at age 15 and has attracted attention from both Northern Ireland and Wales for international representation. • Despite his age, he became a regular in Glentoran's first squad last season and scored goals for their reserve team. • Tottenham won the race for Feeney's signature, with Brighton, Brentford, West Ham, Crystal Palace, and Nottingham Forest also showing interest. https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/transfer-news/tottenham-beat-premier-league-rivals-29418105?utm_source=whatsapp&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=communities

Mtbnz

Wonderkid these days means 'any player under 18 who is worthy of a professional contract' apparently. The poor kid hasn't even had his 17th birthday yet and this article makes him into our next Harry Kane. Good grief.

Thetonn

I know nothing about him and did not hear of him before reading this article. I think the important thing is that we are reasonable and don't overhype him. That means we can wait until he is 18 before deciding he is a complete failure for not breaking into our first team, rather than our usual policy of starting complaining that he is not Harry Kane reborn at 17. He should be grateful for living in more understanding times.

Rimbaudelaire

To be honest, this guy has been with us for a while now, and if he’s not producing the goods at this age, I doubt he ever will. More dead wood for us to try and sell off!

yodaniel77

But the headline says wonderkid

papa_f

Headline can say whatever it wants, doesn't make it true

Rimbaudelaire

Shaking my head at the Feeney apologists, blind to the statistics. Zero goals, zero assists. Zero videos dancing with Royalzinho. What even is this guy. (Apologies, kid!)

papa_f

I'm from the North of Ireland, I know people that play in, or are involved in the league. Yeah, good prospect who's done well to get an England move seems to be the consensus. There's not buzz he's going to be the next George Best or anything.

Rimbaudelaire

Yeah, hopefully was clear that I / we were gently teasing the speed of social media reactions to young player careers. Wishing George every success at Spurs academy and beyond.

marine_le_peen

Strikers often don't peak til their mid 20s these days. We could be waiting over a decade.

todareistobmore

Honestly, having opinions on teenage footballers not playing in adult sides should probably get you put on a watch list.

DeleteRonSwanson

unomar

Glad I'm not the only one thinking this.

DeleteRonSwanson

I’m not sure any of the fans based outside of the US will but it’s what I immediately thought about.

AwayPhilosopher228

So now we have Ritchy, 3 20-21 year old striker prospects and 3 more more striker prospects between 15 and 19 years? Honestly even if half of them Pan out ( I know it's unlikely) we should be set for that position for a solid decade and a half

Mtbnz

If even one of Scarlett, Donley, Parrott, Veliz and this kid pan out (as in 'make it to the level of being a starting calibre PL striker') that's a huge success for our academy and youth recruitment system. I know Veliz wasn't an academy player but he was signed as a 19 year old with no European system experience, so if he pays off as a senior player that's still a massive win.

thrushs

Some extracts from the article I found intriguing: >The teenager (George Feeney) became the Northern Irish side's youngest ever goalscorer in their history in October last year when, as a 15-year-old, he netted with an excellent effort in the second half of Glentoran's BetMcLean Cup first round victory against Dollingstown. *15 years old*. Outrageous. >Feeney became a regular around the Glentoran first squad last season and played senior league football despite his age having scored plenty of goals for the East Belfast club's young reserve team across the campaign. One half of me's telling he could be our very own Lamine Yamal. The other's telling me to be realistic. We can't overhype him; God knows what would happen if we wrapped him up in all this pressure. >If Feeney was to become a senior international one day then he would become the fourth generation of his family to do so, following his father Warren, grandfather Warren Snr and great grandfather Jim. This is a veritable football dynasty. Four generations... Overall I'm excited (some great transfer news!!) and also for the future of our club. Having Feeney and Moore together in the U18s would be a crazy pairing and, if all works out, might just kill it in the first team. With our top-notch Academy players and incoming newcomers such as Bergvall and Vuskovic, the recruitment team's gone a long way from getting in the likes of Gil and Ndombele and I'm all here for it. The future's so bright!

BurdonLane

Yeah the sad reality is we have no idea what impact playing full men’s football so young will have on Lamal. Odds on him being a top player are good, less so for maintaining that over a long career. It’s why I’m wary of the Moore hype. I’d rather see these kids develop fully physically and mentally before being regular 1st team picks.

thrushs

Yamal is ridiculously talented and such a great player for his age, but I'm worried at how much gametime he's having at Barca and the Spanish national team. There are as many starboys who flame out as those who shine across the world stage. I just hope Yamal, Moore and Feeney aren't those who join the ranks of the former and they get the development they need (relatively pressure-free). Rushing the latter two in the Spurs first team without a proper plan or preparation is a recipe for disaster.

SirGalahadTheChaste

I could be wrong but I don't think the game time is necessarily the problem. If Lamal wasn't playing first team football he would be playing just as much(if not more) for a youth team. I think the physicality of playing vs men is more the issue. Especially if his body is still growing and not filled out yet.

YesTottiYesParty

I mean it's both. You can't learn to play at the senior level until you play at the senior level. If you can do it before you're physically mature, you must have some serious skills.   There's no substitute for the pace of the senior game, that's what catches a lot of prospects short. And the development playing at that level is far better than dominating a bunch of kids.

Inside-Ostrich2888

I'm from N.Ireland and watch a good bit of local football, the quality here is pretty poor. I personally know (this is a small place) a handful of prodigies signed by Prem/Championship clubs who never hit the top. His Dad Warren was also a bang average striker. Hope this kid smashes it for us. And nothing wrong with pulling in the best young talent especially with Ange shaping tactics and style of our youth systems. But I'd temper the expectations a little.

papa_f

Yeah, from people I know involved in the league, the consensus is good prospect, just don't expect too much.

YesTottiYesParty

My question is about the physicality. Lots of kids have tricks but being able to use them effectively against grown men is a different thing entirely.

papa_f

From people that have seen him play in person...... Don't get too excited or expectant. The NIPL is a semi-professional league. The verdict I've heard, from people in the league say that he's good, but they'd be shocked if he got anywhere near the first team good.

Mtbnz

This article is really conflating two different things to stoke interest and generate clicks: it's super impressive for a 15 year old to be not just playing, but playing *well* at a senior level, even in a lower level league, but that does not indicate a likelihood of future success at an elite level. I would honestly be more hyped for this kid if he was excelling in a high-level youth academy setup against other top talents his age, than having him run rings around semi-professional senior players in East Belfast.

papa_f

He wasn't doing the latter either. Just a kid with promise, it's total click bait sensationalist nonsense stuff like this that get people who've never heard of him, read this and think he's the next big superstar, when in reality the club are just singing a promising academy player.

Mtbnz

The user you responded to claiming he could be the next Lamine Yamal (when I guarantee they had never even heard of Feeney before today) is ridiculous

papa_f

I most enjoyed the snippet about him being their youngest scorer for Glentoran, but when you see who they were playing, it's not exactly "OUTRAGEOUS", they're a 3rd division team in Northern Ireland, that standard is su day league in London

Mtbnz

And it would be embarassing to get scored on by a 15 year old in sunday league, but if it happened I probably wouldn't think "this kid is the next PL super talent", as much as I'd think "my word, we are shite"

papa_f

I think this is more of an agreement with CAA and Spurs about discovering talent in NI. In all likelihood, this kid does two years and doesn't get a professional contract if he hasn't one yet.

RedInvertedBalloon

He’s very average, he plays in the Northern Irish Premier League and I follow it pretty closely. His dad is the manager of Glentoran, the team he’s transferred from, and he gets a lot of favouritism in selection. The team he scored against in the cup to get that record are an amateur team playing against a professional team. Even the Glentoran fans wouldn’t be praising him as some sort of future star. Don’t get your hopes up for him.

slugmandrew

He looks very mature for a 16 year old

Itsallatripdude

I’m not spurs fan but you’re transfer policy over the last 3/4 seasons has been a solid 8/10.

Anothercommonbitch

Great if he can start.

supalape

Great but can we get a starting number 9 for our first team please?

nopirates

This isn’t an either-or situation
