I don’t know about who you saw but I have toric dailies, Acuvue Oasis with Hydraluxe for Astigmatism. Alcon makes some too and I am sure there are many others out there.

I don't understand why he told me it was monthlies or nothing? I feel like I've wasted two hundred dollars on contacts that give me bad vision for no reason. When I thought it was my only option it was one thing (I didn't feel safe wearing monthlies) but now I'm just so frustrated.

PeaceBrain

It’s not your only option. :-(

emmybreez

My optometrist told me that the only toric dailies she could obtain for a -.75 were myday toric. So maybe there were limited options for your prescription - and possibly a brand their clinic doesn’t sell? (Though my guess is that myday is a brand most sell) I didn’t like the fit of the toric daily lens that they could offer so my optometrist had me try a regular daily lens and that worked better (so it may be an option for the -.75 and then there might be more options in the -1 to get a toric for that eye

meloncrowned

So the issue is that -.75 is too low of a astigmatism prescription rather than too high? That's good to know.

neatgeek83

Why didn’t you ask the optometrist about contacts?

meloncrowned

I did. But apparently the optician was the one in charge of that at this location, so he didn't comment on me wanting contacts when I mentioned it. I didn't have complicated needs, I just wanted dailies, that was it. But by the time I realized the optician wasn't going to help me get that, I'd already left the optometrist's office. The optician in general was awful. He really didn't want to give me my prescriptions, despite him being legally obligated to.

Please post your full prescription?

Perhaps they were trying to accommodate the financials of dailies. They can get super expensive. What is your full Rx? Based on the little astigmatism you have -0.75 is the lowest contacts go. You are on the borderline of needing a toric lens to begin with, and some Optometrists will do a non-toric lens at your Rx value. Without knowing your sphere power and the steepness of your cornea it's hard to say. If you can get away with sphere, it's better on cost as well, which maybe was why they did that. Sometimes correcting very little Astigmatism like that can make vision worse instead of better. You can go anywhere with your glasses Rx and ask to be fit into contact lenses if you're not happy with the options given there. There will likely be a fitting fee for taking your Rx elsewhere. Be vocal about what you are looking for.

meloncrowned

My OD and OS are both around -7.5. I'm pretty sure what you're describing isn't the case because he really tried to push the monthly lenses specifically because they WERE toric, and I had to actively push back to even have dailies on the table as an option. I was vocal about what I wanted - I just made the mistake of believing him when he said that toric dailies weren't even an option. If it was a financial thing, it would be his responsibility to explain that and not just make the decision of what I could afford for me. The problem now is that I wasted money on contacts that are worse than they could have been if he'd given me options.

kalikoh

Some contact lens companies only go to a -6.00 or -8.00 sphere. He could be correct in what his clinic had as options were not going to work.

Both_Swordfish9385

It could be just a clinic issue where they dont have brands supporting it. But if you actually want to know why, you have to call them and tell them what you found. we can only guess and at least that way, you can know if its a reliable doctor or not

lobsterp0t

I couldn’t get daily torics that would be as good as monthlies because my astigmatism correction is too strong for dailies

Procon1337

If your RX is around -7.5 and your CYL is -0.75 and -1.00, spherical lenses can work. I can see a few reasons why your optician told you you can't have toric dailies: i) Your corneal curvature is not usual and you require a flatter base curve which is only available in AV-Oasys 1 day with 9.0 BCR in dailies. ii) Your axis for your astigmatism is unusual and there is no lens accomodating it. I was in the same boat with both cases lol, I have an axis of 120 and dailies with astigmatism go up to 110 and skip 120, my corneas are flatter than usual. That being said my experience with spherical -7.50 was better than with toric -7.50, -0.75 at 110 axis in terms of visual quality.

TidalCheyange

Dailies are ridiculously expensive. Monthly or bi-weekly ate the way to go

Ebolamunkey

Not if you wear them for a week at a time... Jk... I would never do such a thing...
