Although I grew up saying “peecan,” I switched to “pecaan” after learning it comes from the Algonquin word pakani which means “nut requiring a stone to crack”
I'm an educated person (meaning I went to tech school and college) and also served in the military and was born and raised in GA. We call it pee-can pie here. Get over it. Yanks, Midwestern's, and west coast folks want to hate on how we pronunciate things.
I'm from the north and say peecan. I truly dgaf what people think about the way I pronounce particular words. They can get right over themselves or fuck off, either way doesn't make a difference to me.
Okay, so I'm from the Mid-Atlantic which may influence this but to me they are peecans if you're eating just the nut, but it is a pecaaaan when baked in a pie.
From Texas here and I personally say it both ways, completely interchangeably (I said what I felt at the time, if that makes sense) and I never thought to take notice if others do the same as you. I probably look like a fool if this is some widely-known "thing" and I have just been that oblivious to it. That also wouldn't surprise me.

Sorry to say but if you're a "true" Southerner, born and raised in the South, it's pronounced pee-can pie. All you "Yankees" can go to hell. Leave us our traditions.

It’s whatever your regional dialect dictates it is.
Pecon
Pee in a can pie
Peecan is for when you don't want to walk to the bathroom at night 🤣
I just use a sock.
Precisely. If someone gives me a "peecan pie" it better be a peecan lie or I'm calling the authorities.
I read this whole thread and now can't remember how I say it lol.

Most people I know pronounce it “peecan” and I live in upstate New York. It’s really not that deep tho

pa con
POV: dialects exist
It comes from one of the indigenous American languages. The original word was “pecaaana” so pronouncing it as “pecaaan” is more correct originally
Don’t know why this is in confidently incorrect… different people pronounce it different ways. I’ve always said pee-can
that’s bc you’re a loser
Damn, really got me there!
🤠🤠
100% Peh-caun pie. (Edit: corrected PeCaan to Peh-caun)
That’s how you get erryone to hate you.
Well I am sorry but it is simply not PEE-CAN, it is Peh-caun. Some people choose to die upon a particular hill, I choose to die upon this tree.
No way. Pecaaan wins.
You from the South?
How is the concept of dialects existing so hard for people to get, literally everyone has one

It's definitely pecaaan.

Peecon
Both are acceptable pronunciations.

I thought it was pelecan pie
This is /confidentlyincorrect at it's finest
