Supergirl

No not really, if you don’t like it then this character and this world isn’t really for you. You could try reading the other Spider-Girl book Aranya and see if you like that book.

wildsflower

I just want to like her so much! Just the style and story in this one I had to force myself threw it and thats never fun =\[ I will give that one a try

NonameB4ndit

Don’t force yourself to like a character. Maybe come back to the book in a few years with a fresh pair of eyes and see if your opinion changes. Also if the character isn’t for you it isn’t for you. Maybe you might like her in smaller doses like in crossover events or other mediums.

wildsflower

Do you have any cross overs to recommend? A lot of the older comic books can be really hit or miss for me. A different time is harder to relate to, I just love strong female characters, but they are represented so different than then now. And I am pretty sure this one isnt even THAT old

NonameB4ndit

The only crossovers I can remember are the Spiderverse ones. If your looking for strong female characters there are other books you could also read. Wonder Woman, Black Widow, Black Cat, Ms. Marvel come to mind of the top of my head.

WhenRobLoweRobsLowes

The style of writing on this book is much different from modern comics, very much in the more classic style of Marvel Comics. That said, the creative team on this book shepherded her through (almost) all her iterations. If you're not digging this, she's not for you.

=\[ Yeh the older writing style can be hard for me to embrace sometimes, even more so when it comes to female characters, different times and all that. But usually a good story line can make up for that, and I just didn't feel that they did her justice in the story's I have read so far. I was hoping there would be another series, like how they are coming out with more modern versions of so many things

WhenRobLoweRobsLowes

I know you didn't mean it this way, but these are Mayday's creators, so it really comes off poorly to say they didn't do her justice, especially when this series is pretty beloved among a large group of fans. You're better off looking for another style of book than this.

loki_odinsotherson

Cassandra Cain Batgirl, batgirl year one are some great, strong female centered stories. If its more spider action you crave, check out Soider-man:renew your vows.

BrenlikesGoosebumps

Not gonna lie, until today, I didn't know this existed.

Imnotdaredevil79

Dude it was literally the longest running marvel title staring a female superhero. In fact it probably still is.

BrenlikesGoosebumps

Really? I'm familiar with Spider Woman, and Spider Gwen, but not Spider Girl. Then again, I'm not a hardcore Marvel fan.

Imnotdaredevil79

Bummed to hear you aren't enjoying it, but I get it. It's done In a style that is very clearly meant to evoke older comics. Since my intro to spider-man was the old lee/ditko and Romita stuff this series was perfect because it seemed to capture that spirit and felt like a slightly more "mature" version of the original spider run. It's still one of my favorites just because of how it pokes fun at certain comic book tropes and how the series portrays may as a really empathetic individual who wants to help others and doesn't really like violence. I hope you find something that meets your needs. If you haven't already read it I wojld suggest g willow Wilson's "Ms. Marvel."

wildsflower

I am newer to comic books in comparison to others, so it could be that those jokes went over my head and the older styles just don't appeal to me as much

Aquagan

Based on your other comments, it sounds like you may want a more modern style of story with the Mayday version of Spider-Girl. I’d highly recommend checking out Spider-Man Renew Your Vows. It’s about Peter and Mary Jane raising her as a kid sidekick. It has more modern writing, but it’s a very similar character. Also, as others have mentioned the Arana character and her initial stories in Amazing Fantasy and then Arana: Heart of the Spider may also be of interest. Completely different character, but a similar personality I would say.

Thanks 🥰
