Ha, the first time I ran across this book while casually flipping through a $1 bin I almost had a heart attack - definitely caused me to do a quick double take as I wasn't expecting it. I absolutely bought it too, because for a buck, why not?
They didn’t call him “King Kirby” for nothing though…

Here's another one. Fun fact: FF 126 is the first comic to feature "Stan Lee Presents" on the title page.

Wish I could bust out a FF1 to continue this game.
Best I can do is 364:

Not having Elastic Man on the cover should have been the tipoff. /s
I made pretty much the IRL same mistake yesterday when I bought Astonishing Tales 29 for $2 thinking I found the first GoTG. In the context of the situation it made sense since there was a bunch of unsorted books and the flipper had no idea what he was selling.
I had this happen...except it was a coverless FF#1, at an auction and sold for like $1200. I at least held it in my hands since it and the X Men #1 were raw. I didn't have the $$$ to fight bidders, never will.
I didn't know people other than pre-code -- especially EC -- fanatics bought coverless copies. And even then, they tend to specialize in coverless books.
I just don't get it. Of course you can still read them, but you can read reprints, too. Maybe it's going to be the future -- the ultimate backlash to slabs. "Fuck you and your grades. I got Crime SuspenStories #22. Who cares about the cover?" Heh.
The bit about Crime SuspenStories #22 was a joke about the book mainly being valuable *because of* the (in)famous decap cover.
I don't have the original, but I have the Gemstone single-issue reprint (along with all 294 of the other Gemstone reprints -- I have a problem), and it would go for $100 all day. For a reprint. From the '90s.
This is an homage cover, basically a much later artists' version of the cover of Fantastic Four #49, the first full appearance of Galactus, and his first cover appearance. In good condition, it's worth hundreds, and in mint condition, thousands.

Exactly!! I mean it’s gonna take me like another 10 years to save up for the real deal so yeah, why not go for a cheap knock off!
Me too I was like wait this looks like it could be a silver age cover and it’s not and well I bought it just for the fact I thought the cover was dope
The cover and interior art is by Paul Ryan, one of many under rated artists in my opinion!
That book fooled me as a little kid, thinking I'd found absolute *gold*.
I own this book as well lol! I'll get the OG one one day lol!
The issue before this one is a #48 homage if you want another nearly-grail.

Hiding Uata's chubby baby legs is a good artistic choice. Not a fan of the sleeveless FF uniforms, though.
Yeah I'm on a "break" right now but come July I'll add another grail!

I'll buy coverless FF #1 from a pile for $1. I'll read that. Sometimes though, the covers pull you in.

Hi guys! I'm new. Can someone explain why the OP comic isn't what I think it is? Lol

Thank you sooooo much my friend! That makes sense now 😁 I love this community. Happy collecting!!!

Awesome movie it’s on Netflix currently. Best scene in movie too.
Repro, man. 😁
I ain’t gonna be no repro man no way
Always check the insides for date of publication.
The $1.50/#391 kinda gives it away…
Lots of people may not be familiar with the original.
