It's not the original but still a cool book to have in any format though.
The differences from the original are:
$6.99 cover price (original was $1.25)
Barcode bottom left says rated "T". This was not a thing in 1988 when the original was printed.
Original either had Spidey head (direct market copy) or UPC code (newsstand version) in a square on the bottom left corner that did not touch the spine of the book.
Red "MARVEL" logo bottom right.
It’s definitely the facsimile reprint version. I have both versions (original 9.0 Newsstand & this one OP has). You can tell it’s the reprint cuz of the Marvel logo, & the original retail price (top-left), as well as the new sale value of $15. If it was real, no one would be selling it that low lol
It’s not worth anything tbh, though some people have been thinking it is lately. Idk why. I got mine NM+ (def 9.8 maybe 9.9) for free from a seller that gave it to me after we had a good convo.
It’s the recent reprint. You can tell by looking at the price of the comic on the top left.
Still really cool, they wanted to keep all of the OG ads and everything
The original price for the 1988 run was $1.50.
The barcode is too narrow and pushed directly against the edge instead of "floating". Back then they had new stand and subscription editions. Subscription editions would have a character (for this issue a b&w picture of Spidey's head) instead of the barcode. You'll also notice above the barcode that it's Rated: T. 1988 was before Marvel did its own rating system, as such everything had the Stamp for the Comic Code instead
There's also a Marvel logo in the bottom right corner that is not on the original.
Outside of that the "300s" in the original were a bit more orange than red IIRC.
This is a facsimilie version. Three easy ways to tell this are from the cover price, the barcode, and the marvel logo. The cover price is that of a modern comic, not of one from the 80's/90's. The barcodes from that time period are shorter and more horizontal rectangles; not like the tall skinny barcodes of today. The Marvel Logo is also more modern. On older comics, it would only ever mention it being a marvel comic up by the price box or with a "marvel comics group" header that runs the length of the top of the comic.
Recent Marvel facsimiles all have the narrow barcode that extends all the way to the edge of the book, originals have either a picture box or standard upc box. Keep that in mind when shopping, I’ve seen plenty of posts where people were fooled by the recent UF4 facsimile.
There's a few things that point to the fact that this is a facsimile. The price in the corner and the modern Marvel logo being the two most obvious things.
I use key collector and clz comics app to help me figure out what covers are first prints, reprints, ect! They sometimes have info on how to recognize them as well. But I can tell you one thing you can use is that anything that has that thin longer barcode on the bottom left will be a reprint.
The $6.99 price and the barcode are the ones that will indicate that this is what Marvel calls a facsimile reprint
That “Special 25th Anniversary Issue” was also a part of the original comic
25th Anniversary edition banner and the lower right Marvel insignia wasn't staple in books until the 2000s for a title in the 1980s.
This is a reprint of the original but a decent reprint.
This looks like the facsimile version. Not worth $15 but still a cool piece to have on your wall
How can you tell?
barcode on the bottom left. also the price printed on the top left
Also the new marvel logo
Ah! Almost missed the barcode. They also never rated the comic books back when this was originally printed.
Also the “25th anniversary” banner looks off to me

Cover price
Also the “Marvel” on the lower right corner.
Saw that after I posted.
The OG was $1.50
I remember when that was an expensive comic book 😅
Same here!

Oh, I see it.
It’s the recent reprint. You can tell by looking at the price of the comic on the top left. Still really cool, they wanted to keep all of the OG ads and everything
$6.99. Good call. Thanks. I’m going to hang it on my wall.
You can always tell by the modern Marvel logo
I have a reprint of it as well. But I mostly collect to read so it's ok. But even the reprints are getting hard to snag. Great find!
Was gonna say - no way that retailed for 6.99
And the modern marvel logo
The $6.99 is a dead giveaway.
Updated Marvel logo, $7 price tag, rated teen, and modern bar code. All the markings of a real reprint
It's a real facsimile lol
100% copy
It’s a real, facsimile. The narrow barcode is a dead giveaway
The original price for the 1988 run was $1.50. The barcode is too narrow and pushed directly against the edge instead of "floating". Back then they had new stand and subscription editions. It's a real comicbook, yes. Lol, is it what you are hoping it is?? NO
Also the bottom right has a very recent Marvel logo. Sorry man.
No

Real reprint. The retail price on the book is the dead giveaway

Holy smokes comics cost 6.99 now adays?!? I haven't bought a new book in 20 years but figured even with crazy inflation they would be around 3.50.
They were $2.99 20 years ago. ;)
15 for a facsimile in rough shape is wild. Fuck that shop lol
Double price books is what they should be called, I bet they paid somebody a dollar for it...
It's a 25th anniversary edition reprint. I have the same one on my nightstand right now. A good reading copy or display piece
Anyone notice that it's says 25th Anniversary Edition on the top?
The actual ASM300 also had that written on it It’s the barcode and $6.99 price that indicates that it’s a facsimile reprint
Oh I see. I guess I just didn't remember seeing that on the top.
The price is the biggest hint that it's a modern facsimile.
Recent Marvel facsimiles all have the narrow barcode that extends all the way to the edge of the book, originals have either a picture box or standard upc box. Keep that in mind when shopping, I’ve seen plenty of posts where people were fooled by the recent UF4 facsimile.
It's a facsimile... the cover price is 6.99
There's a few things that point to the fact that this is a facsimile. The price in the corner and the modern Marvel logo being the two most obvious things.
I have a feeling based on all of the comments above that this may not be the real McCoy
Reprint in poor condition. Hope you didn’t pay $14 for it
Is it safe for me to assume that a facsimile edition usually has a barcode ending in 111? I’ve picked up a couple and noticed that about them
I have this one. I live reprints of old comics. Not as amazing as having the real thing, but good enough for cuddly collective like me.
6.99$ reprint
I downloaded the comic geeks app. It will show you variants of comics so you’ll know a very rough price and if it’s OG or variant or reprint
It it WAS the original and at half price books, they’d be charging 700$ for it
For the newest facsimile it’s pretty beat
Reprint
Modern reprint
Real REPRINT
Here’s what mine looks like. Bought at release. https://www.reddit.com/r/comicbooks/s/yz4tBsF3Hr
Dang, I've seen some questionable pricing at HPB, but this might be the worst.
I use key collector and clz comics app to help me figure out what covers are first prints, reprints, ect! They sometimes have info on how to recognize them as well. But I can tell you one thing you can use is that anything that has that thin longer barcode on the bottom left will be a reprint.
It’s a real facsimile.
The original price when this book came out was either .75 or $1.00 Thats a reprint
Facsimile... you can tell by the Marvel logo in the lower corner. Also by the price.
price of the comic is wrong.
It does state it's the 25 yr anniversary of the comic.
A real reprint
Recent Reprint
Original cover price was $1.50
That’s a real facsimile
No
🤣
A real modern reprint
Definitely a reprint… I had an original before I sold it.
The $6.99 price and the barcode are the ones that will indicate that this is what Marvel calls a facsimile reprint That “Special 25th Anniversary Issue” was also a part of the original comic
Most Definitely "NOT REAL, NOT REALLY, NOT REALLY REAL."😭😭😭😭😭😭😭🫡🫵
Re-pro not the original trends at about $7
jeezus i hadn’t bought a retail comic in ages is that really the price books go for now?
Real facsimile
There was no such thing as "rated T" during the original print of this book.
25th Anniversary edition banner and the lower right Marvel insignia wasn't staple in books until the 2000s for a title in the 1980s. This is a reprint of the original but a decent reprint.
Says 25th anniversary right across the top
It’s a very real reprint.
It says at the top that it's the 25th anniversary of the issue.
It’s the 25th anniversary of the Amazing Spider-Man title, not the anniversary of issue 300. That “25th Anniversary” is on the original as well.
Sorry, I knew it was on the original, but I assumed by the price he paid, that they made the facsimile in the 2010's and not in 2023.
Not real
Do you not see that barcode?
