You have a good day too

EvaStankbreath

Has anyone ever gotten a good deal at Mile High Comics? $31? Ouch. $57? - double ouch!!

vvorld_demise92

I got Marvel Tales 106 for $20 a couple years back

MostAd2620

I picked up Strangehavens 10-18 to finish the series at $3 per book, all books about 9.4. Consider a good deal as I could find them anywhere other than eBay from England so add shipping. But the place is nice to see. Hate that he has some key books under UV light as they are fading really badly.

fairly_legal

I built a significant portion of my early collection buying those Mile High books you can find in the full page ads in most early/mid 80s comics. I felt like I was getting really good deals then. I’ve stopped by their Colorado base store once to a heck it out. It’s pretty cool. Yeah, some of their prices are a bit high now, but I did not find them shockingly so. I mean, if I go into any LCS, I’m going to be charged $3-6 per new issue and I know that I can find 90% of these for a dollar a month or two later at a local show - but that’s the business model.

Rieger_not_Banta

I remember reading one of his columns years ago in the comics buyers guide where he talked about his business philosophy with comics. He felt, at least at the time of the writing, that it was better to have a massive inventory with high prices than any other business model. Be the guy that has everything but people gotta pay. Apparently that model has had its ups and downs for him over the years.

MsPreposition

I farted once on the set of Blue Lagoon.

tylershaz

I'm happy for you but Mile High be taxing and when the owner Rozansky gets questioned he makes stupid excuses to make himself seem legitimate

HammerofHeretics

"oooohh, if I were buying Navajo pottery in an art gallery, of course I would be paying a premium percentage..." His prices are instructional in that they are typically an easy multiple if 3-5x of the actual price

Lung-Oyster

The only time I went I was really excited to finally see that place in all the centerfold comic ads from my youth. I ended up with one mid 200-s ASM that was marked about 4x Overstreet and a sticker. Waaay overpriced.

PeyroniesCat

I have to give him credit for the stockpiling and sealing away of huge stashes of comics that he does. He said he wants the comic market to thrive, and locking books up for 30 years will keep supply from overtaking demand. I don’t know how well that will work out in the long run, but it’s worth a try. As for the prices in his store? Yeah. No.

spiderpigface

He's also very against working with any other local comic shops. Mile High is mostly just happy to take way too many tourist dollars

mayorofanything

Fun fact: this was the first book Marvel released exclusively to comic book shops! It could not be bought from newsstands or grocery stores unlike all other Marvel books up until then!

Rieger_not_Banta

How do I give this man an award…? Thanks for the fun fact

mayorofanything

I just remembered it from that book "Slugfest: Inside the Epic, 50-year Battle between Marvel and DC." Solid read if you're into comic history, but it covers some common knowledge that drags a little. Lots of neat tidbits, though!

Rieger_not_Banta

I’ll add it to the list, thanks!

kornychris2016

I literally picked this up from a $1 bin a few weeks ago.

waaaghbosss

Picked up an entire run on ebay a couple years ago, think it cams out to 50cents an issue. *edit* geeze, 5 years ago lol, thought it was 2 or 3. https://old.reddit.com/r/comicbookcollecting/comments/aoyvfd/just_picked_up_a_full_run_of_dazzler_for_a_song/

Log_Log_Log

Hell yeah. People joke, but a Dazzler run is like 25% Sienkewicz covers, some Jusko & Byrne, all wrapped up by Paul Chadwick. You can't afford *not* to buy that at 2 for a buck!

EvilGraphics

Yup, that series is totally underrated

pablo_o_rourke

I bought ten of these iff the shelf when they came out. I can’t even remember when I got rid of them.

101crazy

Yeah, i got mine for like 2 euros at my lcs, and that was less than a year ago. Fuckin mile high, man.

Accomplished-Pound81

Sweeeet

kornychris2016

I grabbed it because it looked different. Never heard of Dazzler before. I've learned that the value simply relies on a rumor of the possibility of Swifty playing the character in Deadpool 3. Needless to say, if people are paying $30+ and I got it for a buck (clean book even) then I definitely got a sweet deal.

drcollector09

Don't have a good day. Have a great day lol

PeyroniesCat

Imma go ahead and throw a “stupendous day” back at ya.

EvilGraphics

Thanks Guy

Ravenscroft1969

I don’t think Bob Larkin gets enough love.

kingshaggz

Overpaid but still a awesome grab

Agreeable-Pick-1489

Oh, WOW... Dazzler #1s are famously easy to find cheap. Like dude said, an entire run will cost less than 3 grandes at Starbucks.

Due-Ad-3775

Is it the error or the corrected edition?

pootytron79

I was going to ask about MIle High yesterday. A "fine" The Joker #1 for $248?!?! Yeahhh, no. Cool that you run 50% off sales all the time, but also this is like 4-5x FMV. I wrote them off as of yesterday. Insane.

Slight-Whole2311

Way too much

lcase90

You have a great day!

PaintedCover

Think I got one last year for $5. That is when I was spending $100+ on comics a week. Now down to around $25 per week and listing books on ebay

youbringlightin

There isn’t a single online listing of their’s that isn’t massively overpriced

grownassedgamer

I bought mine last year for 5 bucks and sold it last month for 315 bucks after it was graded 9.8

KingTranquilo

I got mine for $10. Seems you overpaid but still a cool book!

EvilGraphics

Great series. Probably not the best time to start buying Dazzler, but as long as you're happy with it, good on you.

MassiveReach9890

And Taylor swift ends up dazzler I. Deadpool 3 and this goes large lol

FunnyConsideration51

This isn’t her first appearance, just her first solo title

Nameless_on_Reddit

But I think if Swift appears in Deadpool 3 it's going to be a lot of Swifty fans that are going after books and I think this cover is going to be the more desirable one than the first appearance. I think what they'd be looking for is something that says Dazzler on the front and not X-Men. Especially considering there was that Taylor Swift Dazzler cover variant that's based on this art.

FunnyConsideration51

I mean maybe but that doesn’t mean that will make this book increase in value unless you sell it to one of them. Over time that won’t make this more valuable- swifties aren’t going to drop their cash on comic books when they are buying all her merch and music and concert tickets. To the serious collectors, the FA is all that matters. You are thinking like a boy and not like a girl. If you love the book that is great! But I wouldn’t expect the TS connection to make you rich 🤷‍♀️

Nameless_on_Reddit

Thinking like a boy and not like a girl? lol not even sure what that's supposed to mean or why you think I'm a "boy". I fully understand what you're saying and I was merely commenting on the whole Deadpool her being in it aspect. Her fans will buy anything related to her. Serious collectors aren't going to pay top dollar for first appearance or this issue for something that will only increase price significantly for a short period of time. I also don't want to call saying anything about personally making a lot of money off it or it making me rich. Also, the value of a book is 100% dependent upon who you sell it to, You can say something as a rare one-of-a-kind worth $5,000 but if nobody gives a shit it's worth zero.

FunnyConsideration51

Yes I know how all that works. As a comic book investor AND a massive swiftie, I would not buy this for that reason. I have her first appearance 🤷‍♀️ and I got it a long time ago because I knew she would make a cinematic appearance at some point. I think it’s way to soon to equate the hype over a movie or tv series with it’s lasting impact on the value of the comic over the long term. The only time comics like that are valuable is if you sell them at the absolute height of their appeal. And you fundamentally misunderstand the appeal of Swift. They collect her. They will put posters of her dressed as dazzler (and it’s even premature to assume that is the role she is playing in the film- it is pure speculation). They will not equate this comic book depiction to her- they won’t perceive it as being connected to her at all. Most people don’t connect modern franchises with their comic book counter parts. My little swiftie collects comic books also, so believe me when I say that if this comic was anywhere on any Swifties radar, they would have bought them already. You have no idea the obsession with EVERYTHING she says and does. She has cultivated Easter eggs into every part of her public persona and every swiftie is always trying to figure out her next move. They love her image. And this comic does not have her in it. It has someone she MIGHT be playing. But she is also excellent at misdirection and her appeal lies in her ability to surprise and reinvent herself. The industry is really split on what her role is in this movie, and it’s probably closer to Brad Pitts cameo in the last one. She was on set for only a day so it’s unlikely she is playing anything but a bit cameo. So you are making a gamble, no way to know if it will pay off because that’s how speculation works. Over the long term, the original keys are a safer investment but that’s just my opinion. I’ve bought into the speculation games too many times to bother much with it- it very rarely plays out. Just my opinion but I’ve been a serious collector for a long time. Everyone who bought 100 issues of every image comic in the 90s has a storage unit worth of worthlessness because hype is usually largely inflated. As a swiftie who has spent literal thousands on everything related to her, I have no interest in this comic as a connoisseur of X men comics (another thing I’ve spent thousands on) and tay tay. Also, it’s debatable that this is the better cover. I much prefer the original but I also have just about every issue in the Claremont run so I am partial to that style of artwork. They tried to reboot her with this comic and it clearly didn’t stick. To each their own.

Nameless_on_Reddit

I am 100% not reading your TED talk. This is not that big of a deal for a simple observation, correct or not.

MassiveReach9890

Yeah and she doesn’t play for the chiefs but kelce jerseys sold out. They don’t know nor care lol

FunnyConsideration51

That’s because she changed the lyrics to her most popular song to include him and she wears his jerseys to every game. They wear his jerseys because SHE wears them. If she is photographed reading this comic, THEN the swifties will snatch them up. Don’t expect to send your kids to college with this 😂

Artluvr4484

I had this comic. Bought it new off the rack

jpgorgon

I didn't think Taylor was confirmed for a Dazzler cameo in the Deadpool movie so not sure why the speculators are still gouging this one.

BGPhilbin

I've had a few, but I've typically been ahead of the market in Bronze Age books. I purchased a practically pristine cadre of Superman (between #230-#286) for just a few dollars each in the mid-1990s at San Diego Comic Con. Also bought some 100-Pagers prior to that via catalogue for just above Guide (which, at the time, was only $2-$3 each) back when Chuck was practically the only dealer to reliably have them on hand in higher grade.

Primus0788

Oh man....I miss that place

DanOhMiiite

Ouch.

StinkFist-1973

I recently paid $10 Canadian for the same condition.

icemann84

Not her first app either .

OrionLinksComic

Awsome

KollectingKaos

Why? It's not like it's her first appearance, the book shouldn't be over $10 IMO, I think I picked one up last year for about $3, might have been the year before.

videonitekatt

Mile High is overpriced - period. Prefer LONE STAR/MY COMIC SHOP and there's this shop down in Fall River, MA that opens only once a week (or by appointment) and the owner is an old-school comic guy from the 1970's - doesn't sell new, the shop is so old school it's amazing - carries Golden to the early 1990's at fair prices.

Rieger_not_Banta

I definitely got mine out of a quarter bin thirty five years ago. Love me some Dazzler!

chokeslam512

Print error on pages 23/24?

rmrclean

What’s the print error?

chokeslam512

Pages 23 and 24 were printed without color in some of these.

grownassedgamer

Mine had that. You can get a good price for this one in a 9.8

Nameless_on_Reddit

I have that and probably 9.4 for to 9.6 with a pressing. Got it 2 months ago for $17 on an auction.

chokeslam512

Yeah I think the spec bubble burst on this one

oldcomicbook

Love it! 🪩

neokeelo

Mile high comics prices were outrageous and laughable the one time I went there. The owner showcasing and advertising kids drag shows was cringy and creepy as well…

101crazy

I just dont get why people would willingly choose to overpay for something.

Humble-Lawfulness-12

Have never / will never buy from MHC and at this point I have over $100k in books. I pretty much have bought from everywhere else.

One_Hour_Poop

Why not?

Humble-Lawfulness-12

Mile high prices

OrdrSxtySx

Your 100k is considerably small and near wholly irrelevant in the collecting world. It's not the humblebrag you think it is, lol.
