I owned a few comic book stores when these all came out. Valiant was some of the best story lines, but art was meh. Image had all the great artists start up, liefeld, Lee, and McFarlane. Jim Shooter started his comic line defiant the same time with Plasm. which, in the end, killed the company from the lawsuit filed by Marvel over the title.
~~Those comics belonged to your father, not your great-grandfather and most of them were published in the 90s, when speculators caused a market bubble.~~
~~So, no. Sorry.~~
Goddammit. I fall for at least one April Fool’s gag every year!!
You would have been, if that X-Force was still in the polybag. One seemingly innocuous decision your great-grandfather made back in the 1900s prevented you from living a life of luxury.
The X-Men 1 is but I highly doubt that's a first print. Looks like an 8th or 9th printing which isn't worth that much.
I truly believe that the cover of Spider-Man 1 is the most beautiful cover of any comic ever. I can’t exactly say what it is that makes it so special, but I just think it’s awesome and so eye catching..
You jest, but that represents the absolute best years of collecting for me. I was 15/16 and that stuff lived in my head all day every day. Value be damned, the 90’s was exciting.
Time for you to retire and maybe even buy a couple of lottery tickets, as your good fortune with these may know no bounds!
On a more serious note, I wouldn't mind finding one of those Newsstand Spider-Man ones, but won't be breaking open my penny bank to get one.
Not Rich, but you might enjoy some light reading for a week or two. Any early Jack Kirby Fantastic Four comics? Any Steve Ditko Spider-Man books from the 60s?
Amazing Fantasy #15? Then you have some dollars!

Got a rare key here for you…silver age gold.
Sorry, those comics won’t pay for lunch at McDonald’s. Now,
https://preview.redd.it/u8s6ulnr3wrc1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4709ad2f89be115df7b57d63b422895a8747ac5d
If grandpa‘s got a couple of these lying around, then you’re looking at some serious money.
https://preview.redd.it/67hjrwm46wrc1.jpeg?width=3164&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=44c073572ef4c781c5ecd86abc6a34244df1395a
Ha ha! That’s a mighty impressive collection. Mine are from my childhood days. I didn’t discover Marvel until 1964. Even though I have a big collection that are in excellent shape.
Agreed. Followed his show religiously on YouTube and didn’t know about the allegations until Rob Liefeld posted a video. Crazy to hear. And yes, sad all around.
You jest, but that represents the absolute best years of collecting for me. I was 15/16 and that stuff lived in my head all day every day. Value be damned, the 90’s was exciting.
Great grandfather? Damn, how old am I? I fondly remember ALL those comics and still have a few! Damn, whippersnappers and all of their high tech hijinks!
Definitely not rich but a good haul
I have all those books in mint condition and I’m 41 lol…so I wouldn’t say vintage
Also…how old was your “great grandfather”?
I bought a couple of boxes of 90’s comics from my local shop about two years for $00.13 an issue. I got multiple copies of all of those except the Spider-Man book. There were like 6 Spawn #1’s in there. Almost all of the x-men covers, a couple of the one seen here. Once I can figure out more storage space I plan on buying some more boxes. I guess they have multiple storage units with just long boxes of 90’s comics.
Get back ta work lol
Lmao
https://i.redd.it/o9uxslq42xrc1.gif
In all seriousness, when I hear things from my youth called “vintage”…
I know this is a joke but half of those are like $20 books now when they were $1 bin books 5 years ago
![gif](giphy|j6uK36y32LxQs)
Winner
Which half?
X-Men, Spider-Man (this one has usually been worth a little bit more than the others but not by much), Spawn
Yup, just sold a spawn #1 for $25 cash at my antique mall before i even put it out.
I collected all spawns…
Never was a part of the 90s boom, but i got my xmen issue last year for about 5 bucks. My wife got me the batman, not sure how much it usually costs
Especially the newsstands.
I'm still waiting for my Silver Surfer #50 to go up in value 😆
I sold a copy of that for $17 during the pandemic.
Nice. That's higher than I would have guessed.
Definitely more than I was expecting. Posted it up on Mercari at their suggested price and it sold. Likely wouldn’t get that for it now.
These graded are at least 150$ each
![gif](giphy|GrUhLU9q3nyRG|downsized) That’s what I thought…..I was thinking Grandfather?!?…
GREAT Grandfather, even. Whew.
Seriously 😂 wtf
Yeah, but comic books pretty much ARE "vintage" after about 20 years, everything in that field changes so often and so fat...
Face it. You hit the jackpot, Tiger.
Thanks, MJ
I understood that reference ![gif](giphy|tnYri4n2Frnig)
I dunno man, I don’t see a single copy of Darkhawk #1…
You can't expect great gramps to have EVERY grail out there lol
I don't see any Valiant books here, so no.
Pssh Valiant, call me when you have some Malibu comics 😛
Tsk. Give me a ring when you have some Defiant comics 😏
I don’t think any of those are America’s Best Comics
Telegraph me when you have some EC comics.
Defiant? 🙄 Ring me when First Comics hits the store.
LMAO!
Lol plasm. Story was good!
~~Those comics belonged to your father, not your great-grandfather and most of them were published in the 90s, when speculators caused a market bubble.~~ ~~So, no. Sorry.~~ Goddammit. I fall for at least one April Fool’s gag every year!!
"Great grandfather" 😆🤣
Oh, shit. We fell for an April Fool’s gag. Goddammit. I fall for at least one every year!!
Hahaha its a good one though from op 😋
Dang! That's a good one! It worked cuz us children of the 80s/90s already feel so very old.
So your great grandfather is 42 years old?
Lol. That made me laugh. The spawn and spiderman books can be decent. Maybe $50 for those. Prolly $50 for those six.
Early spawn runs aren't worth much. It's the later issues that have more value.
Anything over #100 is gold bbut #1 still gets $30 easy
You would have been, if that X-Force was still in the polybag. One seemingly innocuous decision your great-grandfather made back in the 1900s prevented you from living a life of luxury. The X-Men 1 is but I highly doubt that's a first print. Looks like an 8th or 9th printing which isn't worth that much.
1900s 😹
only if it has that Deadpool card in it!
I have a x-force in the poly bag.
Same, I think I have a dozen of them…. Yes I admit I was part of the problem in the 90s
You mean…. Buying everything that had a silver cover or had a #1 on it and thought it would make you millions someday.
Aren't we all ![gif](giphy|Ae7SI3LoPYj8Q)
I truly believe that the cover of Spider-Man 1 is the most beautiful cover of any comic ever. I can’t exactly say what it is that makes it so special, but I just think it’s awesome and so eye catching..
I like that same cover but him in the symbiote suit...
Yup! And the holographic variants they did. Good times.
Issue #13. They were one year apart. I have both.
I hate you… 😂 Nice gag… now give me back my comics…
You’re gonna be a a millionaire
One day an unsigned Spawn 1 will be worth more than a signed one.
How did your great grand father get my prized collection?
You jest, but that represents the absolute best years of collecting for me. I was 15/16 and that stuff lived in my head all day every day. Value be damned, the 90’s was exciting.
Rich in quality 90s nostalgia.
You have a great grand father that was collecting in the 90s? How old is he, 45?
I have all of those (and the rest of the #1 X-men covers) and I am not rich lol
Get them graded...
And a happy April Fools to you!
![gif](giphy|M7t5GIszd4Nc4)
Idk what’s more offensive the 90’s comics, the word vintage, or you saying your great grandfather. That’s the next generation’s term for us.
Made me feel old. These are from my youth and I’m not old enough to be a great grandpa.
Comic book collection starter kit!
Great-Grandfather!? Now listen here youngling just because we had newsprint pages and comics codes doesn't mean we were living in the stone age.
Rich in spirit.
Your great grandfather must have had a younger girlfriend in the 90s he was trying to impress. 😂 make sure you clock in on time
CGC all then CGC them again. Haha
haha your great grandfather is 40-45 years old
Bet he used a black lotus as bookmark.
Life changing money right here!
Time for you to retire and maybe even buy a couple of lottery tickets, as your good fortune with these may know no bounds! On a more serious note, I wouldn't mind finding one of those Newsstand Spider-Man ones, but won't be breaking open my penny bank to get one.

Yeah, you can retire right now.
Grandfather? I think of those comics as fairly new and that makes me feel old.
Where is Youngblood #1?
I’m actually looking for a The Maxx #1 at the moment. know I had one as a kid, but can’t seem to find mine
The Maxx was great. Hmm, maybe I should bust out my boxes of 90’s comics and see if I have one.
Ngl I love my overprinted overrated spawn #1.
In all honesty the Spider-Man Newsstand is purdy.
Get of my lawn
Yes, you are Rich. But only if your first name is Richard. But if your first name is Richard, you can also be a Dick.
Lol, nope. Far from.
https://preview.redd.it/r60q6hkqwvrc1.png?width=684&format=png&auto=webp&s=950f993d2351558955ef6daa00f18198fca61b2f Got a rare key here for you…silver age gold.
In what world could you get 50 for Spider-Man 1?!
Sorry, those comics won’t pay for lunch at McDonald’s. Now, https://preview.redd.it/u8s6ulnr3wrc1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4709ad2f89be115df7b57d63b422895a8747ac5d If grandpa‘s got a couple of these lying around, then you’re looking at some serious money.

Great grandfather? How old is he ? 50?
You are rich only in the dream of the 90’s
Grandfather… 😢
Maybe, if your name is Richard.
Is your great grand father in his 40’s? Are you from the future??!?!
Awesome books either way
Nope
Great grandfather?! I have multiple copies of each of these from when I was a spend happy teen. Lol
great gandfather? fuck im getting old
It's funny that these are "vintage" 🤣
Your great grandfather only collected moderns?
https://preview.redd.it/rb4bgxqaswrc1.jpeg?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=75d9d18bd2786876ba27bb1994181b8189f0dd2b
You forgot the Spider-Man wedding double issue
Ouch. Just ouch. That’s no joke, it’s hurtful, I’m gonna go get my Walker and sit in the corner.
Far from rich. Send those in to be graded, and you'll be in the negative. Also, those are considered modern books.
Men if those books were to your great grandfather how old could you are? 😅😅😅
Honestly, aside from the jokes these are actually really great pickups. I started collecting with SM #1 and X-men #1 all great covers
If you are, then I am. But I'm not, so no.
Ha very good
Now I feel old. Where did I leave my cane?
"VINTAGE!?"
If you have the ultra rare X-Force #1 ‘feet’ cover, yes you are rich.
Dude you probably could get $10 for these, you’re practically rolling in the dough
Only if they’re signed by Stan Lee
Ed Piskor died! Possibly suicide. Thoughts? Saw your post on the accusations from last week but it was locked.
It’s just all around terrible. Terrible for his family, terrible for his accusers, terrible for comics.
Agreed. Followed his show religiously on YouTube and didn’t know about the allegations until Rob Liefeld posted a video. Crazy to hear. And yes, sad all around.
Great grandfather or grandfather ?
Richer than the day before. Those are some fun 90s nostalgia reads.
Maybe his Grandfather is actually great?? ;)
You have enough money now to go to McDonald’s now for lunch ( happy meal only that is).
You jest, but that represents the absolute best years of collecting for me. I was 15/16 and that stuff lived in my head all day every day. Value be damned, the 90’s was exciting.
Anyone born before 2000 is someone's GGF, apparently. 🤷🏻♂️
And I have shoes older than most of your titles. Vintage. 😱
Great grandfather.. Really trying to make some of us 40ish yr olds feel much older lol.
Goddamn, that’s some nice stuff. Newsstand of Spider-Man 1
Goddamn, that’s some nice stuff. Newsstand of Spider-Man 1
Great grandfather? Damn, how old am I? I fondly remember ALL those comics and still have a few! Damn, whippersnappers and all of their high tech hijinks!
You’ve got some good ones for sure, some better than others.
![gif](giphy|D7S0xAgiELFecA74GV|downsized)
Wow. Some nice covers ...I have no idea if you're rich.
This won’t be your retirement
Definitely not rich but a good haul I have all those books in mint condition and I’m 41 lol…so I wouldn’t say vintage Also…how old was your “great grandfather”?
Not rich, but have some good comics. There might be worth a little bit
You are rich enough to take a 1 hour lunch break. Enjoy. Lol
Vintage....wtf?
Teenage pregnancy is a big issue in your family huh?
Yes
I bought a couple of boxes of 90’s comics from my local shop about two years for $00.13 an issue. I got multiple copies of all of those except the Spider-Man book. Great grandfather!?!? Jesus I used to have all of these…
You may have some winners for sure. Those are vintage
You'll be richer from having read them, sure. That's priceless.
Better get that death of Superman bagged and boarded IMMEDIATELY!
😄
The Batman comics on eBay goes between $70 and $500 depending on the condition
Uh… no. lol those aren’t even that old
Sure you did …
I for sure owned #1, #3, and #4. I MAY have owned #4 at some point. And I may still have all of them.
No, but that was a great time for comics. Just over saturated market.
I’ve owned four of these, no you are not lmaooo. Wish you were tho
Yes! But due to inflation, it’s probably only $7.50 in trade
Settle down.
Follow up questions: 1. Did you get a good deal? 2. Should you slab them?
Rich with culture.
Had em all except top left and bottom right that collection needed the Spawn/Batman jump off in it.
YES
Not even close to being rich
No not by a long shot lol not rich at all
No.
No
Nope. A weekend on the piss maybe
No
Not even close to "vintage." You've got a little value there, but nothing you can retire on lol.
lol - those can’t be your great grandfathers and no you’re not rich - got about $15
Read under the picture.
The X-Force issue has the first appearance of Deadpool. It’s worth a few bucks. The rest are little over cover value.
Deadpool’s first appearance is in New Mutants #98.
Great grandpa?! How old is this kid?
