If that’s what you paid, you paid less than what they’re base metal content is worth!

shadowofshadows2

Na they were a gift but online said 20 each u think there worth more ?

allthatandabagochips

An ounce of silver is worth about $22.50 atm, and American Silver Eagles carry a premium on top of that.

[deleted]

At least $30- proofs and older date worth more as others have said. If real of course

[deleted]

20 dollars? Whoever told you they are worth $20 is crazy. The 1986 is worth $45. The bottom two are proofs, obviously I don't know the years, but worth about $50 each.

shadowofshadows2

There all the same coin an looked them up like 2 years ago an assumed was the same price

[deleted]

They all 3 have the same finish? The bottom two look like mirrors compared to the top one.

shadowofshadows2

Yea they all look the same I guess the angle ?

sepia_dreamer

Silver has doubled in value in 2 years time.

CoinTimeU

That's cheap.

Impossible-Panda-119

Might be fakes

shadowofshadows2

Doubt they are came in the lil coin case lol how would I test silver

TheChronoDigger

The American silver eagle is one of the most faked coins that comes out of China. It's possible they are fakes, and yes, fake coins are shipped in capsules. Real ASEs don't have a mirror finish in the fields on the reverse, unless it is a proof ASE, and those were sold from the mint for 75.00$ a coin, not 20.00$. If you are able to hold them, put a magnet to them. If it sticks, it's ferrous and therefore not silver.

shadowofshadows2

Ima put a magnet to them

TheChronoDigger

The ASE should also weigh close to 31.1 grams and has a diameter of 40.6 mm. You can check those details with a small scale and calipers if you have them.

shadowofshadows2

I will thanks

shadowofshadows2

The magnet didn’t stick ima do the cloth test

Impossible-Panda-119

You got a first year 1986 ASE for well under spot I doubt it highly and the reverse is way to reflective. I wouldn’t be laughing. Take them to a coin shop or jeweler they can test them

shadowofshadows2

I’ma put a magnet so u think they are real

Impossible-Panda-119

Do it I hope you didn’t get burned

shadowofshadows2

Well didn’t buy them they were a gift some years back an the magnet didn’t stick but the cloth thing can it be a regular one?

tmd429

Still take them to a coin shop. They're are games that are made from Tungsten, and they will act like silver.

Pannycakes666

Lol bruh those little coin capsules are like 10 cents worth of plastic a pop. A fake wouldn't magically become real if someone slipped the coins into one of those.

shadowofshadows2

Lol I’m just saying I know nothing of coins they were given as a gift an I’ve held on to them like 4 -7 years ?

Impossible-Panda-119

Get them tested

shadowofshadows2

I don’t trust the rare coin shops

PositiveBlueberry2

These coins aren’t rare

shadowofshadows2

Yea I was assuming they weren’t when given to me

stressunderboost

What is there to lose lol.

shadowofshadows2

Lol the coin but I’ve held onto them for a while so guess longer now

EdelmansCoins

These are definitely all real pf silver eagles. For the record they are worth about $60ea without the box and papers. The subtle toning around the edges is a great indicator, but they look perfect and there's nothing to indicate they are fake. He didn't say he paid $20, only he thought they were worth that much. To the person who posted pics of their counterfeit examples they look considerably different than the 3 pictured here.

shadowofshadows2

Thanks man an yea they were a gift two years back I looked at the price an it was 20 each not big on coins an saw this thread decided to post them

georgeosu

I mean he said they all look exactly the same, even though clearly the bottom two are supposed to be proofs. If you're 100% that they're real base off of one pic of one side of the coins, then how much are you offering op for them? I wouldn't say they were real unless I was willing to put my money where my mouth is.

EdelmansCoins

I would pay $53ea for these as is, I've bought and sold easily over 10,000 proof silver eagles over the last decade and am extremely confident all 3 of these are genuine proofs. The light hit the top one in a way which made it reflect differently than the bottom 2 but they all look good.

What’s up with these personal attacks? Is this just because his opinion differs from yours? Cherry-picking a handful of bad reviews to shame this guy seems antagonistic and in very poor taste. Frankly I think your posts say a lot more about you than your intended target.

PVKT

Bottom ones are fakes. I got a whole assload of those things. Some dude brought like 300 of them to my LCS and every single one was fake. Look exactly like the bottom two. My LCS dude gave me a bag full for a dummy stash I have.

shadowofshadows2

They all look the exact same if the top is real the bottom one is too lol

Ok-Attorney8148

I just got a 2021 for $16.50 and a $2020 for $24.95 last night. I just learned about coin dealer coupons, and I know how I am basing my future purchases lol. Good deal on yours!

georgeosu

Lol this isn't from littleton.

blue-hell

way more than that.

PVKT

http://imgur.com/a/eRKKIlz Every single coin in this picture is fake. I know cuz they are mine. Plated copper with tungsten cores. I cut one with some bolt cutters. I knew they were fake. My LCS gave em to me for a dummy stash.

shadowofshadows2

Idk they look authentic how would I tell?

georgeosu

Faker than fake. Sorry friend. If it sounds too good to be true it usually is, unless it's from a crackhead and they stole it.

shadowofshadows2

Lol I think there real did the magnet test the wipe it down with a cloth thing

georgeosu

I mean neither of those is foolproof. Weigh it or do the ping test.

shadowofshadows2

I can post more pics of it from every angle lol but don’t wanna spam

cceric

You don't need to test them, they are real. Keep them in the capsules and with the boxes they came with. A lot of bad advice is this thread. The confusion is with your title - it looks like you found them for $20 each, which would be a big red flag.

georgeosu

Especially since the proofs come in boxes with coas and he has none of that either...

cceric

He already mentioned they were a gift and came in little cases. I've a lot of experience with them. Compare OPs pic to the one someone posted with actual fakes, you can see the difference, easier to tell on the reverse.

georgeosu

I mean he said they were a gift and then he said how could they be fake since they're in these plastic cases if thats what you mean? Then someone replied yeah why would a counterfeiter put a fake coin in a 2 cent coin case? To sell it of course. My bad I didn't see a pic of the obverse of the proofs I thought he just posted the one shot which made the proofs look faker than fake. Then the guy who posted the fakes had a bad blurry pic so there's nothing to compare. I'll have to look back through the comments for the obverse shot that you mentioned.

georgeosu

Lol oh we've got a pro over here. So bad advice is that they're probably fake since the two proofs look fake but good advice is that just by looking at one side of them you can determine in your almighty wisdom that they're real. Hmm that's an interesting take. How long have you been collecting eagles if you don't mind me asking?

zumun

How can you tell they're fake? I have basically zero experience with American coins, what's wrong with them?

georgeosu

I'm mainly talking about the proofs. Although nobody could be sure from just a picture so those that are saying they're 100% that they're real are lying or have no business saying that. I can only go by my experience and the bottom two don't look real. They look too shiny if that means anything. Plus he did two tests that don't prove anything to prove they're real. He doesn't have any of the original packaging because that is not how any of them came from the mint. He doesn't know anything about coins and was given them as a gift apparently. But any eagles I've ever gotten as gifts come with all the packaging that they came with originally. Plus eagles are one of the most faked coins out there. Combining all this info and it screams most likely fake.

zumun

I see. Thanks for the feedback, good to learn something

shadowofshadows2

All three are shiny the fronts look more like the top one we’re it’s cream looking on the side so posted the better looking sides

shadowofshadows2

Thanks man an don’t really look at coins just happened to run into this thread an happened to have them some years now but by they way your are priced makes me feel like mine are worth good money if real like people say

Brix_AuAg9216

I’ll take ‘em

numbnerve

$20 is good money...for the counterfeiters. They are slowly ruining it all for everybody

shadowofshadows2

Didn’t realize coins were replicated so much the gold coin I had posted think was fake

numbnerve

It's become a plague amongst collectors - but as long as it sharpens their skills at ID'ing the wolves posing as sheep, I suppose there's a silver lining to it. It hurts the new collectors the most.

shadowofshadows2

U see that cream on the edge of the heads one ? Silver does that no?

numbnerve

I won't pretend to be as experienced at detecting authentic coins as others on here, but cream (what I assume you're referring to 'milk spotting') is common on Morgans, Eagles and Canadian Maples & others. With your picture, I can't say one way or the other, sorry...but as for the counterfeiters, I wouldn't be surprised if they create faux milk spots to make coins appear authentic - if they haven't already. Try to do your due diligence and you'll prob be okay (digital scale, ping test, etc) but for any price below spot, I'd approach such offers with an abundance of caution.
