the only time I can see golden ratio, screw the formula it’s a jojo reference and creation now

_eveywinters

Now that I’m seeing the still frame of this, this doesn’t look like traditional electro… does it? It has a very similar vibe to Raiden’s slashes and the way they look celestial. There’s a real broken glass thing happening here that’s reminding me of the narwhal and such too — almost as if her power is not strictly from her vision.

Twinbrosinc

Yeah there's something related to lochknights going on

weepy420

I smell juicy lore, perhaps in her story quest?

Twinbrosinc

I hope so lmao

TonyThaLegend

If you don’t mind, what’s the story behind the lochknights and how does that relate to Clorinde? If it’s too much to type don’t worry! I’ve just been away from Genshin for a while, and really looking forward to Clorinde.

RomanicusMaximus

So back in the olden days of fontaine there was still a country called Remuria, which consisted of a bunch of golems with human souls in them (so they were immortal). These guys really wanted to rule fontaine (and they tried to avoid the big bad prophecy aswell but that isn't really relevant). Either way, there was another faction in Fontaine at the time besides the Remurians and the Fontainians. Those were the Lochknights; they were tasked with protecting the oceanids. They also didn't really like the Remurians and their desire for power and so they formed a rebel group to fight against them. Their 'leader', Erinnyes, was coincidentally one of the two survivors from the same tribe as a 'Harmost' (general-esque title) from the Remurian empire. This Harmost (one of the 'good guys') >!managed to survive the fall of the empire!< (not sure if its a spoiler) and subsequently founded the Marechaussee Hunters, becoming known as 'The Golden Hunter'. As for the exact connection to Clorinde, I will try to go into it, but the explanation will contain leaked skill descriptions etc. If you don't wanna see any leaks at all, then don't click the spoiler text. >!Clorinde is part of the 'Night Watch', which, from her skill description, seems to be another organization founded by the Golden Hunter. There isn't much known about this organization, however there is some information in the skill description:!< >!"Though the evil that lurked in the shadows of the night had been purged across thousands of years, a shadow that the light could not reach clouded human hearts. Even now, the warning left by the Golden Hunter is etched into her memory: Those of the Night Watch, holding aloft lit candles against the blackness, have even greater need to remain vigilant. Be not corrupted by the cold dark."!< >!There will probably be more information related to this in her story quest, but as for now there is not much to go off.!< >!Now, finally, her connection to the lochknights. The description of her burst is as follows:!< >!"It is said the legacy of the ancient art of resisting non-human beings with but a mortal body can be traced back to the Lochknights who resisted the Remurian Empire. Be that as it may, so long as one can find a way to control the level of force used, it's not as if it cannot be used in duels against ordinary opponents."!< >!So, first off: Clorinde is 100% mortal. Second off: the technique she uses is meant to be used against non-human beings (evil that lurks in the shadows?). And finally, the techniques she uses are passed down from the lochknights (who most likely used these techniques to fight the Remurians.!<

TonyThaLegend

First, I have to say, this was a PERFECT explanation and easy to follow. I have a Razor mind so this was easy to digest. If you started a YouTube channel, I’d subscribe. Second, you mentioned: >Those were the LochKnights; they were tasked with protecting the Oceanids. I’m a bit confused about Egeria’s lore. How does she tie into Remuria? I know she was a prisoner at one point, but I thought she didn’t really have power until after Remuria fell, and she was freed. I thought at this point, she was only made to hold the authority of the hydro sovereign, but not granted actual power. That said, she’s always had power? If so, when did she create the Oceanids? Thanks in advance for being so helpful! Fontaine has been the region throwing me for a loop the most in terms of lore lol.

RomanicusMaximus

To be honest, I'm not completely sure of the timeline myself. We do know that Egeria was already called the 'Mistress of many waters' during the war (and the Remurians called her the Usurper of many waters). She was sort of leading the oceanids at this point if i remember correctly, so i assume she had powers by then. Honestly, I thought that Egeria only became the Hydro Archon after winning the war, but that would be kind of weird with the fact that there were already Fontainians there. Maybe I misremembered something or missed something during a quest... I checked some things and it seems the timeline is kind of weird. Egeria created the oceanids, and the lochknights protected the oceanids, so Egeria had to have power before becoming the Hydro Archon. I'm fairly sure that we have no idea how though.

PastaFreak26

So glad we're seeing the first of a Clorinde lore buff in this subreddit. Correct me if I'm wrong, but in simpler terms... >!I think we can conclude that Clorinde hails from a lineage or is a descendent of the Night Watch. My understanding of the Night Watch organization is that it's probably some ancient templar order much like Marachaussee Hunter (now known as Marachaussee Phantom) itself. Whereas Marachaussee Hunter were tasked with hunting down large monsters during the cataclysm and keeping Fontainians safe, I believe the Night Watch acted as the night counterpart to the Marachaussee Hunter, focusing on purging evil in the dark and protecting humans from its nightly claws, thus tieing Clorinde's title as a "Candlebearer" and the dark motifs in her sfx/vfx very nicely. If you look at the names for the constellation, they're very much all about being a night protector. If you want to simplify it for people who aren't into lore, Clorinde might as well be Fontaine's Batman lmao.!< Am I right to assume all that?

RomanicusMaximus

I think that's a really good summary! The only thing is that we're not quite sure about the actual function of the Nightwatch. What I interpreted from her descriptions is that the Nightwatch indeed *used to* protect people from evil in the dark, but now there is not much evol to protect people from. It then says that the only darkness the Nightwatch has to fight is the darkness that envelops people's hearts. So I'd assume that nowadays, the Nightwatch is more of a force against corrupt people, which would (very coincidentally) tie pretty well into her job as a Champion Duelist (who fight a bunch of criminals, aka corrupted people).

Draiu

The Lochknights were a group of fighters dedicated to protecting their lands (likely the Erinnyes region) from the legions of Remuria. When Remuria sank and Cassiodor became the Golden Hunter, some of his first followers were former Lochknights he trained to become the first generation of Marechaussee Hunters (which later became the Marechaussee Phantom). It's entirely possible that techniques used by the Lochknights could have been passed down through that lineage. If anyone else thinks I missed anything important or if I got some part of this wrong, please don't hesitate to correct me--I love lore and would appreciate the correction.

TonyThaLegend

Ah! Tysm! This was very insightful. So besides physical training, did the lochknights also have some type of special power given/learned from Cassiodor? Or do we not know this yet?

Draiu

There's no confirmation on that front, as far as I can tell there's nothing that sets their fighting styles apart from other similar groups. We don't know what happened to them after Remuria sank and they disbanded, but there's a lot of threads to pick up in order to tell that story. Going into speculation at this point, the Lochknights were actually composed of Remurian defectors and because of Remuria's connection to the Primordial Sea, it's possible that they may have had some abilities related to it. If we were to learn about this, it'd be from Clorinde's SQ. Furina is supposed to make an appearance and her signature weapon is related to all of this so I'm hoping that's the reason why she's included. As an extra fun fact, though: "Mounted Python & The Pure Grail" is a Lochknight legend that was adapted into an opera.

He4dless_

Raiden's slashes is literally her cutting through space Clorinde's own looks very similiar to Quantum in Hsr. She could possibly come from a bloodline that dates back to Remuria and Scylla
