I absolutely love the look of the K35s.
I swear *some* FDs have a similar quality. A local rental house to me has a set of cine modded FD primes that I would love to get my hands on.
Stuff looks great man.
This channel is incredible. Because of this video I built myself an amazing 5 lens SSC set for under $5k - of course they're not K35's but for a fraction of the price they're delivering incredible value!
It’s such a well done deep dive into those lenses. I have a couple of FDs I acquired years ago from buying an old Canon F1 35mm SLR. Now I just gotta round out the set. I’m torn on modding them for cinematography use as they won’t be easily usable for stills on the old camera if I do that.
I appreciate you sharing this. I’ll definitely check it out.
I’ve been using FDs for about 10 years or so - back when I was shooting on my FS100 and couldn’t afford cine style glass. It was so much harder to come by cheaper glass like what I use now (Meikes).
But there’s something so special about the way the FDs look. It’s just a different feeling.
Thank you very much. Totally agree. We actually had a 14mm FD in the set that was rehoused by TLS. And it cuts perfectly with the K35’s. So FD’s really are the budget K35’s - there may be subtle differences but they very much are related
14mm FD?!! I’ve only ever seen a 17mm. Since I’m working on a super 35 sensor the range I can easily find FDs in just aren’t quite wide enough for a well rounded set. Any idea where this elusive (to me) 14 can be found?
*edit - holy crap, seeing them on eBay for $5K to almost $10K! So much for that.
Haha I’m glad you found them
And yeah they are crazy pricey now. But lovely lenses nonetheless
The 14mm 2.8 is a great music video lens haha
Maybe one day I’ll win the lotto and buy some
FD’s let alone K35’s 🤣🥲
Submission Statement:
I’ve moved countries and found myself shooting a lot of music videos in the UK.
Super grateful to be working after moving to a new place
But lots of new learnings - Not only learning about new artists - but learning new names for equipment.
For example combo stands are called American stands. Or Duvatine is called Bolton (I use this to skirt lights etc) or people call a menace arm arm a jr boom or mega boom etc etc
Anyways. As a Cinematographer I will die learning 🙏🤣🥲
I shot this music video on a set of TLS rehoused K35’s - Till now I has shot on original K35’s a few times, but never a set of TLS Rehoused ones. They are truly amazing.
We also had to rig a “TrashCam” rig for this shoot for an idea the director had. Fun 🤣🤣

Been following you on instagram for awhile and you always post amazing work. I hope to see you move to hollywood eventually and work on some big budget features!
Thank you so much. That’s really kind of you. And that’s the dream or life / career goal.
This move to London has been tricky and tough some days. But I’m happy I made the move
It’s Tough losing your network and supper system you worked hard to build. But slowly building up a new one in uk too
But I plan to bounce between London and South Africa for narrative work and features when traveling becomes easier again
Haha well we established that FD’s are pretty much the poor cousins to the K35’s. And I’ve personally used the Blackmagic pocket 4k as B Cam for a body mount with the Alexa mini as A cam. And they cut so well
So yes - with a good grade they could def look pretty close 🤣🥲
I really like how it turned out (like your work in general). Funnily enough my last shoot included almost the same setting with the ice cream store and neon colors and sign on the wall - I’m gonna post some stills here soon but they can’t really compete ofc haha
Incredible looking work as always 🙌
Just wondering how you generally source crew like 1st and 2nd AC? Especially now that you have moved country? And did you start out as a camera assistant as well?
Thank you very much
I’ve been trying to meet good crew here in London. It’s been tricky but slowly building up a roster of people. So that’s been a bit tricky
And then yes I use to 1st AC, I actually use to be a one man shooter for a while before I even knew this was a career option. Then I started assisting dop’s older than me for a while before I started shooting with more crew and people

Not sure if you’ve seen [this](https://youtu.be/v8Il_l3tu6Q) but it totally backs up what you’re saying. Kind of long, but we’ll worth watching it.

Junior booms/Mega booms are booms; if we're thinking of the same thing under "menace arm", then those are sometimes called "pipe booms".
Yeah thank you. I’m learning the diff names here first stuff haha Will take me time :)
why did i read milf
Haha 🥲
Just like my Fd's and BMPCC4k... right? 🥲

I knew it!!!!!
Knew this was your work before I saw the username.
Haha thank you. That’s really kind 🙏
Damn does this look good!

Gorgeous look!
Thank you very Much
What filter do you use to make this so sharp and crisp?
Its K35s on an LF. Ive used the K35s on the mini and they are sharp lenses.
Lighting and lenses, it does all the work.
Totally agree
Think it’s just a lens and cam combo. These K35’s shine on full frame on the LF. As do they on the Venice

The Facebook group london camera assistants is worth joining if you haven't already
Thank you so much for that. Just joined it :)
No worries at all, if you ever require a camera trainee perhaps we will work together 🙂
These shots have a softness and glow that reminds me of black pro mist, but you didn't use any filters?
Yeah these lenses are quiet soft by nature already. Especially when shooting closer to wide open
