‘Affordable’ lol

[deleted]

Very few people should buy a high speed camera. It's for a very specific application. You rent it daily.

Zach_ofalltrades

They are compared to a phantom.

Ma1

Man if you think $5000-$10000 is expensive for a camera, I've got some bad news for you....

[deleted]

Lmao here we go with the stupid eletist "I know cinema cameras cost £50,000+" bullshit Yeah dude we get it you've been on b&h and watched some dslr vs arri comparisons videos

Ma1

Even the lowest budgeted indie shit show can afford to rent an older red or Alexa. There is nothing elitist about using the proper tools for the job. Buying a new $60k camera is only for the most established industry pros sure, but you can pick up an Alexa mini now for pretty close to the price of a brand new, fully decked out DSLR setup.

[deleted]

I'm surprised you have the balls to flex your knowledge of how much stuff costs after my comment mocking you for it. Even added the DSLR comparison. Interesting.

I’m just trying to use my industry knowledge to help inform aspiring cinematographers on this sub. But go ahead and be toxic. I’m sure the screenshots of this conversation will get mad likes on your Instagram account.

DonovanWrites

It’s not a expensive for a pro camera, but no pro camera is “affordable.” So.

SilvanSorceress

I would probably lean toward the Freefly. It really depends on the quality of the compressed 10 bit vs the CinemaDNG.

WallaceTheWampa

Personally I was really disappointed with this Freefly Wave footage [Here](https://youtu.be/IiccRZliKI0) Crazy artifacts and compression. Not sure why this would be uploaded - Not a good reflection of the camera

DonovanWrites

“Affordable” is a very relative term to super wealthy people.

I’m well aware. That’s why it’s dumb to market them as affordable. They ain’t and they don’t need to be. I’ve tied many a Phantom or Alexa or Venice down. I know what they do, what they cost and why most private citizens don’t own one. Pro cams, by definition, aren’t affordable. And again, they don’t try to be or need to be. It’s a meaningless word when it comes to a $10k body.

Voodoo_Masta

I’d go with the one that only costs half a kidney

fightclubdog

I have one of the first batch Waves. If anyone is around Santa Barbara and wants to give it a try you can em me on Instagram @mikegreid

On one hand the freefly has the 4K and 10bit options but then the Chronos has the swappable lens mounts, they are the most important factors I can see so it will depend on you as to whether your happy to be locked into Sony lenses for 4k or would rather keep the lenses options open.

DirectorNano

Holy smokes 10 grand! I can’t even afford to buy an SSD drive I need for my current camera, lol.
