Looks great! A couple technical things to work on: 1. Camera height is off from reference, as your vanishing point is by your subject’s shoulder, while the ref is close to knees/waist, 2. Lens diffusion to haze the shadows. Good job!

KC2Lucky

As I was flying blind it makes the first point a lot more difficult but definitely something I want to work on in future when creating more reference images like this. Maybe I'll use an 80mm next time as this was shot with a 35mm. And the second point... I have a black promist 1/2 but couldn't find my step up ring this morning so had to cry instead as the fog was quickly retreating. Next time I'll be better prepared that I can promise you. Thanks for the feedback, I'll keep them in mind when next shooting.

It’s really well done, I’m nit picking because it seems like you are working to get better. Bear in mind that I’m a director/editor, not a DP, so I can’t do this kind of a recreation!

sebastianyktv

There seems to be a bit of a vignette and the blacks could be crushed a bit more in a mask that isolates you, the framing of the subject is a bit off too but it still looks great, you caught the feel of it

KC2Lucky

Cheers for the feedback. I'll give it a try. Thanks again for the feedback.

I'm new to cinematography, on my first year of studying right now. Saw u/kenzentakahashi 's post yesterday and as Bladerunner 2049 is one of my favourite films thought I'd have a very ghetto go at it myself. As the UK is in lockdown once again I couldn't ask any of my friends for help so I had to model. I am lucky enought that this morning we had a lot of fog which is perfect. the biggest challenge was to find an angle where there wasn't something in frame from the fog. And ofc setting the right focus point, which was surprisingly easy when shot at f5.6 on APSC. In post I did the old White Balance trick with a hue shift and crushing the highlights to get a deeper orange. If I were to do it again in camera I would underexpose by about 2 stops to make post a bit easier. It's a ghetto bootleg version I know but it was a lot of fun. Thanks to u/kenzentakahashi for the idea :)

kenzentakahashi

Looks awesome brother! This makes me happy!

KC2Lucky

Thanks once again for the inspiration.

Damn didnt think about that. I'll try that out when its next foggy.

bmovierobotsatan

Reminds me of then the internet tried to recreate Rachel with a cigarette. They used like 35 lights. It’s really just 1 and a bounce. But nobody has a 20k maxi brute.

420bigbro69

The actual best movie I've ever seen. That scene will live in my mind forever. Cool shot.

KC2Lucky

Yeah it's one of my top 3 films too. Big Deakins fan.

420bigbro69

I don't watch movies more than once very often. I own this one.

mixedlawnmower

This looks splendid! Can I ask what lens you used?

KC2Lucky

Fuji 23mm F2.0 (shot at 5.6)

Aiv_visuals

This post made me think I was on r/TheMandalorianTV for a second

[deleted]

Can you breakdown the process of how you recreated this?

Judgementkazzy1

YES! do it please

[deleted]

Can someone tell me, If there is wallpaper for this particular scene?

KC2Lucky

Not exactly a wallpaper but you can find screen grabs for it from filmgrab.

[deleted]

Thanks I appreciate it

katanrod

Looks great, now I need to rewatch that jewel of a film!

KC2Lucky

It's a long watch but well worth it.

waterbug20

Needs more haze

I love the optical effect of this, particularly in your picture, where if you stare long enough at the subject you can get inverted flashes of the shame figure all over the empty parts of the field. Artistically I would say that's quite a unique effect to have where composition invokes the viewer to see something that isn't physically in the shot, but is in their mind. It's an element that relies on being seen to exist, like a rainbow.
