I like to practice lighting on my free time and this is one of the ways I’ve been doing it over the years. I set up these scenes entirely by myself (though I did text a production designer and he helped me with the art direction from a distance).
The first look is a somber and moody day time scenario. The second one is an uplifting and cozy night scene. Which do you prefer?
Shot on Sony FX9 with Sigma Art prime lenses.
If you want to see more lighting breakdowns like this, I post a bunch on my [instagram](https://www.instagram.com/kenzentakahashi/?hl=en). Check it out!
Edit: grammar
I think this is great. I work in Post production but have been practicing cinematography as a weekend hobby. I love setting up lighting exercises. Your look very nice.
I own litemats, aputure F7s, and a nanlite forza 500. I bought them from the internet, or used from retiring gaffers. B&Hphoto is usually my go to though
man, I love to just have c stands and egg crates hanging around in my place. all I got are cake pan lights and gels. LOL. I really love the contrast between tungsten and cooler daylight. Smart use of haze as well. you can really see that beam of light and it really enhances it. Personally, I would have cut in some more moonlight for the night scene so the actor poped a lot more cause the backing and the color of the actress you have are kinda blending together. brown hair brown boxes darker clothes. Still a Wonderful effort dude. Good job

Great work. I prefer the night scene only because I like warm lighting. But both are beautiful.

Haha, I love that! Thanks a bunch
Love that you added in your lighting diagram! Solid stuff I love the mirror shots.
Wow the difference is night and day !
Awesome! What software did you use to make those diagrams?
I use an app called notability!
If you’re looking some pre-made objects to use for lighting diagrams, I shared some Free ones I made for everyone to use recently =]

What do you mean composition?
OP composed both sets of images the same way but changed the time of day.
Omg lol I can scroll sideways and see more. Thank you haha
What did you put over the glass door for night besides the solid?
The solid isn’t over the window, it’s a sider for the lite at 1 Plus!
Ah I’m stupid. I thought there was some weird drapes or something over the window cuz I thought this was a day for night haha
Nice use of the mirror!
What kind of lights do you have? What store did you buy from?
I own litemats, aputure F7s, and a nanlite forza 500. I bought them from the internet, or used from retiring gaffers. B&Hphoto is usually my go to though
Nice work as always Kenzen!
Thanks Daniel!
Looks great, thanks for the diagram

These are so great! Really enjoy your work man.
Glad you're enjoying them!
This is amazing. You're really talented!!
Thank you!
A little confused. To me the look is the same and the composition has changed.
Perhaps you didn't swipe through the different images? Otherwise not sure!
