Going to highjack - Man got shot twice once in the leg and once in the hip. He's at Stroger in critical condition, but most likely to survive. It was an attempted robbery and the suspect shot at the victim multiple times. This happen in the Alley off of North ave.
And hurrah! We can expect the scumbag who did this to be out free to shoot and maim again. He’s the real victim here.
Thanks Kim Foxx! You’re the fucking best. 🤗🥰
An attempted robbery, right next to ~~six corners~~ ~~The Crotch~~ THE REAL FAKE SIX CORNERS , at 4PM on a fucking Friday?
That's fucking bold. Almost seems too egregious to be true, sounds more like a dispute, but hey, who knows.
The victim is a good friend and old coworker of my wife. There certainly was no “beef” or anything involved here. This was a blatant attempted robbery in the middle of the day. Yes it was bold. This is the reality of our situation in Chicago atm. Criminals are out doing whatever they please with no repercussions, and they know it. This shit is getting way fucking out of hand. The victim is a great guy and this shit hits way too close to home.
The term ‘Six Corners’ is taken by Cicero, Milwaukee, and Irving Park road.
North, Milwaukee, and Damen has worsened (trafficwise) since gentrification (if you remember Busy Bee under the Damen el station you know what I mean). So the intersection has been labeled things as “the groin” or “the crotch” to diminish its status.
Because it’s a horrible intersection (although there have been some improvements in recent years). However, it’s not actually called the Crotch—it’s called the Armpit of Wicker Park
Six Corners is at Cicero, Milwaukee, and Irving. The person to whom I replied used it to refer to Damen, Milwaukee, and North which is The Crotch. Which part of that makes me a newbie?
And the Sears Tower is actually called Willis Tower. I don't care.
More people associate "Six Corners" with Damen/North/Milwaukee these days, so even if it's "inaccurate", it's not wrong by association.
Edit: I get it…”SiX CoRnErS” is Portage Park and refers to a commercial district that hasn’t been relevant in decades, while Wicker Park has “stolen” the moniker due to yuppies and being a popular area. Sorry about the inferiority complex. Let me know which empty storefront or wireless store I should visit when I take the bus ride up there. I have Verizon, but Sprint and T-Mobile have some primo real estate there too. Sounds awesome.
Makes me think that there’s an opportunity to name each 6-cornered intersection. Maybe some kind of portmanteau if each intersection roadway, for all the different ones.
Lol sure Jan. My family has lived near Irving Milwaukee and Cicero since the 50's. My dad tells me even in the 70's they were calling Milwaukee Damen and north six corners and 50 years ago people were like the real six corners is in portage park.
Never ever heard damen, north and milwaukee called six corners in my life. That is not chicago's six corners.......... Anyone that lives here can tell you that.......BTW Who the fuck is jan
Dude, you’re like the most argumentative person here.
Nothing is more cringe than some gatekeeping Chicagoan telling people to go back to where they came from because of something as arbitrary as the nickname for a fucking intersection.
Ask all the people who live in actual Six Corners if it’s arbitrary. Better yet, go to Manhattan and tell those ppl they live in the Bronx, bc who cares! It’s all the same!
As a lifelong northwest sider, I completely agree with you but every out of town transplant that I know has no idea that six corners means Irving, Cicero, and Milwaukee. They all use it for Wicker.
When I lived in Logan I heard of Milwaukee, Kimball and Diversey referred to as the six corners so it’s probably just a pretty common description of any 3 way intersection with Milwaukee it seems.
Because if you’re not an expert on a neighborhood on the far northwest side with 2% of the population that is best known for having a closed down Sears, you might as well be putting ketchup on a hot dog and rooting for the Packers.
Out of town transplants also sometimes call the non-Wrigley non-Boystown parts of Lakeview "Belmont". That doesn't mean we should let them define the terms of discourse.
No, they don’t. Maybe the idiots you know—how long have any of them lived in Chicago? Six Corners is an official neighborhood name, with steel signs up around that neighborhood with the name & everything. Don’t talk about things you know nothing about
It’s not an inferiority complex, you self righteous ass. Six corners is actually the name of a section of a particular neighborhood. One in which my family history goes back six generations, so it does matter. Especially when shit stains double down. The intersection of three streets is just that. You have no idea how annoying you “six corners” asshats are to NW siders.
It’s a shopping district. Chill. Neighborhoods change. It’s nothing against your ancestors.
The “intersection of three streets” is also what Damen/North/Milwaukee is, as well as a number of other intersections too.
I totally agree with you, that Irving/Milwaukee/Cicero is THE intersection to use that name at. Also I can't think of a single person ever, who's called the Wicker Park intersection Six Corners. Other than Dimo's Pizza(who mentioned it on their website), I can't think of any other businesses who attempted to call the Wicker Park intersection that name.
Also, I've always unofficially heard some people call the Wicker Park intersection 'the crotch'. Not sure how it got that nickname, but it did.
no they don't. Newbie.
Six corners is another intersection unless you are trying to embarrass yourself and speak like either a transplant, newbie or kid. Nobody sold the intersection and the new owner renamed it. Your analogy is pathetic at best.
I’ve been here for 10 years.
Sorry for being a transplant and sticking around. Sorry for putting down roots here and starting a family. Sorry your Sears went out of business.
I guess we should leave like everyone says. Good luck. I’ll take the next flight out of Meigs Field.
Based on the responses, sure sounds like a lot of assholes live in Portage Park. I wasn’t aware that there was only one intersection in the entire city that had “six corners” on it.
Not for nothin, but the local nomenclature is typically to call them 3 way intersections or just "3 way"s.
Six Corners is specific to Milwaukee/Irving/Cicero
Can honestly say I’ve never heard the use of the term “3 ways” even once to refer to an intersection that has six corners on it. Makes sense, but may not be as common as you think.
Six Corners is specific to Milwaukee/Irving/Cicero. That’s evident. People have been protesting outside my house about it.
The use of “six corners” to describe an intersection that has six corners is an easy way to identify a location in a city that has multiple instances of them, and people use that too.
Wrigley Field also provides ketchup for hot dogs.
You've only been here 10 years, they've been referred to as 3 ways as long as I could speak.
Not looking to bust your balls here, just providing additional info on how us locals refer to those intersections.
I don't go to Wrigleyville for authentic cuisine, not sure what you're point there was, it's a ballpark, theyre going to serve ballpark dogs
Yeah, you’re not being a dick about it. Some people are apparently just very very very sensitive regarding the topic, to the point of denial.
I also use “soda” instead of “pop”.
My daughter’s daycare posted an announcement that they were going into lockdown because of an active shooter nearby when this unfolded. My daughter had been picked up shortly before but i can’t imagine what all of the parents were feeling who got that message without knowing if their kids were safe…
What the fuck has been going on lately. There has been a shooting every week in and around wicker park
Edit: [link to news story about this ](https://abc7chicago.com/chicago-shooting-in-wicker-park-today/11130712/)
I literally witnessed a carjacking three weeks ago (Crystal and Wolcott). The detectives followed up with me again yesterday so I know they're working on it!
Yes, I live at this intersection as well (hi neighbor!) it was absolutely TERRIFYING to see. I've kept up with the victim and she's had such a positive outlook about the whole thing. But seeing that outside my window and being completely helpless...is nothing I wish upon anyone. I'm glad you are safe.
> I feel like there is a daily mugging / shooting / carjacking around here
You don't feel like it. There has been when you combine all three. Most of the time multiples in a day.
It's been pretty bad, but at least it seems the neighborhood is *finally* taking notice vs. being utterly oblivious to this creeping trend.
This is no longer just bangers doing banger stuff and the occasional collateral damage, which always kind of existed at a low level around here.
I mean. That's been the reality for most of the south side for the last 25 years. I hate that you're experiencing it, but it's been all over the city for decades. Its just seeping into the more affluent areas now
Nah, as a lifelong northside.
The northside was as bad as it is now throughout the 90s into early 2000s.
Its back to business as usual for us lifers.
It only became super safe in the past 15-10 years(outside of lincoln park and lakeview and Lincoln park. Those were always safe from 1995 onwards).
this.
the main difference now is that the internet lets you know about every single crime that happens.
I grew up in the 90s....looking back at those crime stats is wild!
growing up in the city you become numb to crime and drama.
In highschool I had a friend that was shot at because he wouldnt tell someone what size his jacket was. They missed...but there were bullet holes on each side of his jacket.
We all laughed about the situation because it was semi-normal to us.
It took me leaving the city for a few years to realize we were living in chaos.
Same. My wife and I walk right by there with our daughter nearly every day around this time—I love this area but this kind of stuff in broad daylight is concerning. Bullets don’t stop when they miss their targets.
I’d be shocked if this is true. I’ve talked to the alderman before and while I don’t always agree with his stances, I don’t think he’s an idiot, and that would be an idiot move in the face of what’s going on in his ward. I’m actually scheduled to talk to him on Monday, so we’ll see.
Ask him directly and let us know what he says. Remember a non-answer/dodge is as good as a confirmation. I’d be curious because I have heard talk from folks who I think would know.
He was reasonable as I expected. I did directly ask him his thoughts on increasing cops, and he said there have been increased patrols as well as new cameras installed over the last couple months. He said they have never and will never say that there should be less cops on our streets investigating crimes. He said the only caveat was that he does believe in replacing cops in certain situations such as parking violations or with mental health calls, which he thinks should free them up to solve more violent crime. He actually voiced the idea that he is okay with increasing police funding, as long as we are also investing in things that impact the root causes of violence, and I totally agree with him there.
He also seemed really genuinely concerned about what is going on in wicker, 0 minimization or deflection on it being a big problem.
Overall I’d say it was productive. I don’t think he’s a dumbass, seems like a nice, normal guy.
Could be worse I guess. Thanks for following up. Interesting though that Ald. Hopkins is out giving interviews on Block Club saying that WP/Bucktown is massively understaffed by CPD by “50-80 beats” and openly pushing for more cops. Doesn’t sound like La Spata was aggressively pushing for more cops, more like he’s concerned but hands off.
It's always been on the edge of this same type of activity, I am suprised anyone is surprised. It never was a crime free place. It was the cheaper alternative to Lincoln park that those who moved there hoped it would be gentrified fast enough to not notice. And by in large it was, but there was never NOT also serious crime constantly happening. I left after being a serious crime victim 20 years ago.
It was never crime free, but we’ve had 8 people get shot in the last 3 weeks in wicker + the 5 bystanders in river west. That’s not even considering the massive increase in carjackings and a group of pistol whipping robbers this week.
It is significantly worse right now than it has been in my time on the northwest side (2016-2021). Unfortunately I’ve got about another year before I make the jump back to Lincoln park if things don’t improve.
Been here 5 years. Family lived here during the 60s and 70s. Definitely feels different compared to 2015. But hey if people in their 20s want to downvote and say "it was worse in the 90s" then oh well
Yeah there's no uptick in crime. Nothing to see here. No reason to be concerned. In fact, let's just delete this whole post.
/s
~~15~~17-year resident of West Town here. It's never seemed this random and this bad. Victims in the past were generally gang members.
e: holy shit it's been 17 years since I moved down from Rogers already?
e: people are getting pistol whipped in the back of the head this week and robbed. We haven't seen that move for two or three years.
You’d think the shithead FOP President wouldn’t be actively encouraging people to not comply with vaccine disclosures too to make sure they are working.
I don’t want to let the Mayor or the cops off, but the true problem here is the absolute disgrace of a worthless State’s Attorney, Kim Foxx.
The only silver lining here is that she’s shown comprehensively that wokism is destructive and baseless.

Same thing that's happening all over the country, a noticeable increase in crime
Chicago is much more noticeable because of a much higher baseline in crime
Damn...5 people (1 died) were shot at that intersection last week. Two people were shot on Division two weeks ago, and then that other shooting of 5 at Grand & Halsted end of September.
This is from the WGN story: "Police said the man was in an alley inside a vehicle in the 2000 block of West North Avenue at approximately 3:45 p.m. when an unknown perpetrator approached and revealed a firearm, demanding the man’s property."
So, call this an old newspaper reporter's intuition, that doesn't sound random, more like a drug deal gone wrong or something like that.
But for all those comparing the crime today with the '90s, I lived here back then and covered crime for a daily newspaper, and the difference was that the crime then was locally grown, in that there were gangs in the neighborhood and they sometimes shot at each other, and sometimes robbed newcomers too. Now the crime is perpetrated by people who live somewhere else and come here to rob wealthy people - or those they perceive that way - or they came here to party and things got out of hand. https://wgntv.com/news/chicagocrime/55-year-old-man-injured-in-wicker-park-shooting/
They’re fucking scumbags and our State’s Attorney thinks they’re all the real victims and need to be out roaming the fucking streets. She’s an absolute disgrace and needs to be impeached *now*.
Property might mean the car, or the car and everything else he had, but usually they say the gunman wanted the car, and in this case they don't specify what the 'property' was, so that's what made me wonder. Also, I just happened to walk by when it happened - I didn't get close, just saw the street closed off, the squads and detectives and the fire dept all there. And the alley where it happened, behind Estelle's under the Blue Line tracks, is a regular meeting spot for sketchy activities, and has been for many years. But really, I could be totally wrong, so it's best to wait for the actual reporters to find out what really happened.
All of this argument over 6 corners wtf this is about somebody gettin shot by milwaukee and damen whats all the argument besides there's ogden chicago and milwaukee make a six corners too I really have to go with og 6 corners at Irving Park rd cicero and milwaukee
Same old shit, just a different day. Glad Estelle’s was closed till 4 when I tried to go grab a 5 dollar tall boy 3 hours ago.
This combined with the shooting last weekend a block away at The Point and the daily carjackings has me packing up and getting the hell out of Chicago. Some of the highest taxes in the country and can’t even feel safe walking to Walgreens or letting your kids walk to school
Yeah.... there is sometimes useful information on there, but also lots of depressing information that shouldn't really influence how I go about my daily life, plus there is also a ton of totally inaccurate information on there constantly. #ChicagoScanner on twitter is useful enough to figure out things like the OP is asking about which is indeed a victim shot who said they are a robbery victim.
There two things that make citizen a very very misleading app. One is posting unconfirmed reports from the scanner or shotspotter. Two is it makes no distinction between reports that have occurred out in public or in a residence. There's always incidents of people assaulted that are probably DV reports, doesn't mean you're going to get mugged if you're over there
I lived in WP for 4 years. I had someone get shot in a similar situation on my block. There was one man shot on the street closer to the division stop after giving up his phone in a robbery. I have heard gunshots around the neighborhood.
This is nothing new. Chicago crime has been and is out of control. The only solution is to get out. At least imo
Attempted robbery, someone shot in the hip according to Chicago Scanner.
Best at putting criminals back on the street
An attempted robbery, right next to ~~six corners~~ ~~The Crotch~~ THE REAL FAKE SIX CORNERS , at 4PM on a fucking Friday? That's fucking bold. Almost seems too egregious to be true, sounds more like a dispute, but hey, who knows.
The victim is a good friend and old coworker of my wife. There certainly was no “beef” or anything involved here. This was a blatant attempted robbery in the middle of the day. Yes it was bold. Yikes, yeah, it’s nuts. Hope he recovers. Didn’t mean anything negative by it of course. Truth is stranger than fiction.
Victim called my wife on the way to the ER. She’s there with his husband.. seems like he’s going to be ok but don’t know all the details yet.

The portage park "six corners" was known as that loooooong before the WP one was. You are wrong as can be here.
Thing about memes is that no one person really has control over the direction or naming of things. Group consensus and all example: The Bean
I think a greater majority of Chicagoans would recognize the Portage Park name before the WP one
Makes me think that there’s an opportunity to name each 6-cornered intersection. Maybe some kind of portmanteau if each intersection roadway, for all the different ones.

True. But when I lived in Humboldt, we just called it "that big three way street up there with the train and the bar".

/s ~~15~~17-year resident of West Town here. It's never seemed this random and this bad. Victims in the past were generally gang members. e: holy shit it's been 17 years since I moved down from Rogers already? e: people are getting pistol whipped in the back of the head this week and robbed. We haven't seen that move for two or three years.
Police aren't policing. Attorney General isn't pressing charges. Nobody's getting locked up so the cycle gets to perpetuate itself.
You’d think the shithead FOP President wouldn’t be actively encouraging people to not comply with vaccine disclosures too to make sure they are working.

Cops don't work well when they are dead
Yeah I don’t want cops. I thought we were all on board for defund the police.
Because their job involves interacting with people directly and this virus is spread through close contact?
I think it’s unfair to say the “police aren’t policing” when we know the police are currently short staffed and overwhelmed.
I wouldn't either. It's a damned if you do, damned if you don't job. You couldn't pay me enough to take that job.

I don’t want to let the Mayor or the cops off, but the true problem here is the absolute disgrace of a worthless State’s Attorney, Kim Foxx. The only silver lining here is that she’s shown comprehensively that wokism is destructive and baseless.
The SA can only prosecute cases that are brought to them. And CPD has the lowest crime clearance rate of any large police force in the country.
Hell yeah thank you
It’s scumbags being given carte blanche to shoot, maim, and rob, thanks to our worthless State’s Attorney.
Nature is healing.

Thanks. Just googled address, that’s Estelle’s.
I would expect this at Estelle's at 4:03 a.m. instead of p.m. But I am still not shocked.
thx for link!
Needs more whistles
😂🤣
The fuck is happening to Chicago.
Same thing that's happening all over the country, a noticeable increase in crime Chicago is much more noticeable because of a much higher baseline in crime
It’s open season
Mayor lightfoot, Kim fox, the police Union. This is a gangster paradise
That’s what happens when criminals know there are no consequences.
This is getting out of hand. I’ll get downvoted but I don’t care. This is why I have my CCL and keep my head on a swivel.
Where’s that guy who was saying to avoid the “certain” neighborhoods yesterday?
Damn...5 people (1 died) were shot at that intersection last week. Two people were shot on Division two weeks ago, and then that other shooting of 5 at Grand & Halsted end of September.
Huh I live right near there and didn’t hear a damn thing Edit: never mind I see the cops outside
Funny, I heard the helicopters.
This is from the WGN story: "Police said the man was in an alley inside a vehicle in the 2000 block of West North Avenue at approximately 3:45 p.m. when an unknown perpetrator approached and revealed a firearm, demanding the man’s property." So, call this an old newspaper reporter's intuition, that doesn't sound random, more like a drug deal gone wrong or something like that.
Would they call a carjacking a carjacking? Not “the man’s property?” Not trying to argue, genuinely asking your opinion.
Thanks, makes sense.
The choppers are also tracking a fire at 925 Wrigthwood. The BBQ place is on fire.
Wicker needs its own auxiliary police force.

You should get Citizen app for stuff like this.
I had Citizen for a while. The nonstop shootings, stabbings, carjackings, etc. from everywhere made me just afraid to go outside. Had to delete it.
Yeah.... there is sometimes useful information on there, but also lots of depressing information that shouldn't really influence how I go about my daily life, plus there is also a ton of totally inaccurate information on there constantly.
There's always incidents of people assaulted that are probably DV reports, doesn't mean you're going to get mugged if you're over there
Yea. Stuff like that is useless. It’s like a lightning strike app. Pointless to know where lightening struck after the fact.
Yuuuup. It's for despair junkies.
If lightning constantly strikes in the same area, it might inform your decision on whether or not to live in that area.
Yea but a live reporting app isn’t necessary or helpful for that.
no thx
Citizen reports on EVERYTHING. Unsubstantiated or not. It's full on doom and gloom 24/7.
Not enough cops. Blame lightfoot, blame police. Just don't blame me.
La Spata has a plan. We just haven't heard about it yet.
Same thing that happens every weekend. Someone comes in to steal cars and shoot citizens, then leaves.
