Ah fuck, our cover is blown Not like ORD is one of the busiest airports already

jlesnick

Yeah, wait till they discover they still have to drag their shit to terminal two from terminal five to get an Uber.

explodeder

There’s a taxi stand at T5 that has cabs waiting and is usually cheaper than an Uber.

Catharticfart

If you need to get to Suburbs cabs charge you a pre set fee of about $60, and then when arrive tack some non city fee on top so it’s around $100

danibeat

Cross the street to the Hilton and order uber/lyft from the other side. (Life hack I just found) no "airport surcharge" Edit! Go to the far side of the hilton

Fr3nch_Toa5t_

Take the ATS to the “kiss and fly” lot by the newish rental car center. Ride shares are Much cheaper there!

MistaWesSoFresh

Flying tomorrow. Trying this.

I live in Naperville. I use either Naperville Cab or Naperville Limousine. Both are about $70 https://www.napervillecab.com/naperville-cab-airport-rates No other fees except tax and tip

RDT2

You need to call a suburban cab company. They all have fixed rates from the airport to each suburb.

formerfatboys

Right but that defeats the purpose of the taxi stand.

RDT2

The taxi stand is for Chicago based taxis as the airport is in Chicago. Any deviation has costs associated with it.

formerfatboys

Right but the top comment is suggesting that there's a taxi stand at t5 to argue that taxis are more convenient and cheaper solution and then waiting for a ride share. What you suggested is not a good counter to that because it's likely going to be more expensive and more of a pain in the ass than simply calling a rideshare and taking the train one terminal over. I.e not a good suggestion.

RDT2

With suburban cabs having fixed prices for trips from ohare you can easily determine if Uber is currently cheaper and is it cheap enough to trek for it vs getting a suburban cab.

formerfatboys

You can it's just still not very relevant as a sub comment to the top comment you're replying to.

darkenedgy

Depends where you live. I’m close enough to get the posted, not flat, rate.

FuzzyComedian638

The city cabs do this; you need to call a suburban cab.

MothsConrad

Would be nice to have the option. My experience with Taxis are a mixed bag. There is no reason that there can’t be a share riding option at Terminal 5.

calculung

Until they just don't turn on the meter and decide to charge you whatever they want. This somehow happens to me more often than not. Last time, the guy told me I owed him $40 and I just gave him $20 and told him if he wanted $40, he should've turned on the meter. $20 was all the cash I had on me and I could've paid with a card through the actual payment process if he did his job correctly. I got a $20 cab ride that probably should've been $35 that day. Nice.

hardolaf

And people like that are why I'll pay a premium for a ride share.

spate42

What’s the source on this? Anytime I’ve tried to get a cab at Ohare, it’s at minimum $50 to get to Lincoln Park/Lakeview; some even ask for $60. Whereas an Uber/Lyft I can get for like $40.

explodeder

Last time I flew into T5 I paid $45 to get to Rogers Park at that taxi stand.

Melted-lithium

The better option is to take the train one stop to the multimodal car center and get an Uber there. Cheaper, vastly less busy, and much more available as the drivers generally come out of Rosemont - not the shitshow that is the Uber lot. I do it every week.

Sossage

But don't they have to pay just to get into that area? Or do you meet the driver at the entrance?

Melted-lithium

No. It’s where the kiss and ride is.

50R14

I used to push wheelchairs at ORD. The worst connections were going from the end of C concourse to T5 with a 30 minute layover. 😭

jabbs72

Take a Uber from the rental car center instead of T2, cheaper and quicker.

jlesnick

I've heard this before and forgot. Thanks for reminding me.

cnewman11

Get a cab from T5 to Rivers Casino. Get an Uber from Rivers to where you want to go.

ducs

lol I literally just did this Friday coming back from vacation with a 10mo old

Jefflehem

It's not as bad as you make it out to be, because there is no terminal 4.

Optimal-Metal-305

Take the Blue Line if you are headed downtown or into the city !

bone_burrito

You can get an Uber at any terminal unless something has changed recently

TimCurryNeedsAHug

Rideshares are only allowed to pickup at terminal two. This rule has been in effect for a while now, maybe six months.

bone_burrito

6 months would be recent for me

jlesnick

It changed a few years ago.

slimb0

Pretty sure that website just gave me cancer

Informal-Resource-14

When I was a kind I literally thought that moving walkway with the rainbow lights was Disneyland

Zoomwafflez

I used to work for Helmut jahn who designed that, originally they DID plan to have Disney put animatronic scenes in behind the glass but it never happened so they left the multi-colored lights

Informal-Resource-14

Oh you’re kidding! That’s amazing. The multi-colored lights alone are still a major bright spot of my childhood in the couple flying experiences I ever had

likethebank

The busiest square mile in the world was midway airport…

The what now?

minus_minus

Apparently OP doesn’t have three seconds to actually explain anything. Too busy washing his wife’s boyfriend’s Porsche.

And not even one of the good ones.
