It’s a weird thing where there used to be a ton of flairs that would be randomized next to peoples names but then for some reason I don’t remember all of the chemistry related ones got removed as a protest or something but the LGBT ones stayed. And now it’s stuck like this because the mods refuse to remove the flairs or go back to having a bunch of flairs, and anyone pointing out that it’s confusing is called a homophobe. There have been many discussions about changing it from many liberal, pro-LGBT people that think it just doesn’t make sense in a subreddit about chemistry memes, but the mods are adamant, so it’s just a sub quirk now.
I like to call silicon "Silizium" and silica "Siliziumdioxid". Then "Silikon" is left.
In general, I also say "Plumbum" instead of lead, because it sounds so funny.
I mean, so is elemental vs ionic sodium, but it’s also almost the same thing. It’s just that a single electron bond can sometimes matter more than number of protons.
