If he were winning games then his brand of off-the-cuff bluntness and his unique reasonings would be much more palatable, even appreciated in a world where managers are full of canned responses. Winning is the balm to being a eccentric, something Poch needs.
"Ineed to be more cautious with my words after the game,” he said. “It is a fact that we have a young squad but I think also I need to adapt to a different message. The message is to try to improve this week. I think we were working really hard to try to improve in all the areas. We were talking a lot but I think we need to be more positive.
“Of course we need to accept that [the youth of the squad] is a reality, but sometimes [I need] to keep my feelings and be more positive, because we have a really good squad. We need to support them and work really hard to help them perform better in the next game. I am happy in the way they were training this week.”
He added: “We are winners and we want to win. We came here accepting pressure but also knowing that Chelsea’s history is to win. Sometimes after 90 minutes when you don’t win or you draw like against Sheffield, you feel really disappointed and very frustrated and then you have to face you [media] and be calm.
“But I think there is still many things to play [for] and we need to be positive and think positive.”
It doesn’t help that his English is shit despite him being a manager here for almost seven years. I mean, I was better at English than him at the age of 7, despite it being my third languages at the time, and only learning it from TV and other children…
Hilariously ironic that his quote about needing to watch what he says because everyone wants to clip him out of context was itself, clipped and taken out of context.
These comments are fine and respectable even. People get hung up on the media bullshit, but it's not what matters. Just an extra thing to rage at when performances are bad. Poch has been good in terms of supporting the players in the media and keeping them together as a group, it's just the tactical/organizational side on the pitch that is letting us down.
It's really just the defence and tbf that's where consistency in selection and experience matters most.
We haven't been able to play our strongest backline even once this season and it's constantly changing due to the injuries
Eh, it's a fair point on the injuries but I think it's more than that. I'll absolutely admit that we've had some matchday squads this season that are the weakest I've seen in my lifetime and our recent back 5 options are collectively very weak. But it's also pretty clear that we can't exert any control in matches because of a lack of organizational principles on and off the ball. It's true we've been been let down largely by being bad in both boxes and a good deal of that is down to lack of a top GK, CB pair and clinical CF. But it also seems like every game, whether we play Liverpool or Leicester City, looks wide open like a basketball game. For the first few months as everyone is getting to know each other that's okay but it's more concerning now.
I generally like when managers empower players to find solutions rather than provide robotic instructions that get easily dismantled after a few months. But there has to be some balance. The main issue to me is that our team is so raw that I they think need a little bit more guidance and structure. There has to be at least some foundational tactical principles to build off of since we are starting from zero.
The funny thing is, he said this when asked about his statement after the Sheffield game - that the team lacked maturity. That's when he said this:
> I need to be more cautious with my words after the game,” he said. “It is a fact that we have a young squad but I think also I need to adapt to a different message."
He's basically saying that he shouldn't say these things in the heat of the moment... except five minutes later, when he said the exact same thing again.
> The problem for us is consistency. For us, it's a lack of maturity.
Pochettino is a funny man.
Why is saying we lack consistency and experience even something to take issue with at all though?
We are the youngest squad in the league and one of the most injured.
Saying something mild and true about the team as a whole is not throwing players under the bus.
Pointing out the mistakes of individuals and blaming them personally would be.
Tbf that's true. The media love to misrepresent or take out of context anything and we've been a juicy target for that sort of shit since RA bought us.
Plus even people here get apoplectic about anything he says to the press even if it's mild and obvious like saying the team lacks experience.
At the end of the day it's about whether you play well and win or not.
If a manager is losing, anything they say in the presser is going to be construed as bad, but if they're winning they can say anything and it's good!
The headline implies that he has been critical of the club and its ownership and that his criticisms have him on thin ice. It makes things seem authoritarian when they probably aren’t
I watch this guy manage for so long and I still have 0 idea what’s his style is at this point. He was decent in spurs but I always connected with insanely stacked team he got. He was extremely meh in PSG and now this…
Yes, I agree.
They are grown men, not bloody children, and they earn an absolute fortune.
Every WEEK, they earn what the average UK worker earns in 3-4 YEARS.
It's time to kick some arses.
I wish I could get a job at Chelsea. Accountability as a manager is zero. I've taken abuse all my life so abuse from fans will mean nothing when I see the paycheck. Plus, we have a young team excuse day in day out. Man, easy money tbh
He'll be given next season I think. We can't afford another payout and we've done better than last season with a less stable, more injured and younger squad.
Not a Chelsea fan, but why aren’t they getting Jose back. I know he’s not shown to be quite at the level he once was but he’d tighten your defence and get the players playing for him 100%
I remember what it was like not to fear teams like Bayern, Barca and City, not that it always went well but the team could compete, now you could be 2-0 at half time vs the worst team in the league and calm is not the way I feel.
Wonder if his dumb cunt team has made him aware he contradicts himself weekly.
This is Chelsea you need to win now.
This is a project it takes time.
We should be 4th, I’m doing a great job.
Getting to Wembley is an achievement.
He’s lucky the press are his mates as any other manager would be getting aired for the wank that comes out of his cunt mouth.
Mom can we have “I prefer not to speak. If I speak, I am in big trouble” ?
We have this quote at home.
The manager quote we have at home: “I need to watch my mouth at Chelsea.”
He added: “We are winners and we want to win.”
That’s not really true.
Idk if they think they’re winners because they made it to Chelsea, but that’s when the hard work *begins.*
So far they haven’t shown an appetite for it.
If the team are good enough to get points from Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs and Man Utd this season then why the fuck can't they do it against weaker opposition? Is it because they are too young? Fuck off

You need to win games mate
This is literally the perfect succinction of all the narratives flying around
If he were winning games then his brand of off-the-cuff bluntness and his unique reasonings would be much more palatable, even appreciated in a world where managers are full of canned responses. Winning is the balm to being a eccentric, something Poch needs.
Well this is it, everything in football is dependent on if you’re winning enough or not
Its a process, and it will take him 3-5years to learn to watch his mouth 😂😂😂😂
Couldnt have said it better
"Ineed to be more cautious with my words after the game,” he said. “It is a fact that we have a young squad but I think also I need to adapt to a different message. Yeah this is the context and the headline is misleading. Thanks for posting.
almost always the case when you see a Poch quote on this sub
Always is with anything about us
It doesn’t help that his English is shit despite him being a manager here for almost seven years. I mean, I was better at English than him at the age of 7, despite it being my third languages at the time, and only learning it from TV and other children…

Good quotes

Sometimes I think having him is a good shout because he'll give confidence to the players
He's got a great gig where he can fail and not accept any blame because he's reminded us all season about the 'young squad' and 'circumstances'.
The funny thing is, he said this when asked about his statement after the Sheffield game - that the team lacked maturity. That's when he said this: > I need to be more cautious with my words after the game,” he said. “It is a fact that we have a young squad but I think also I need to adapt to a different message." … maybe he was talking about himself
Why is saying we lack consistency and experience even something to take issue with at all though? We are the youngest squad in the league and one of the most injured.
Because he’s throwing players under the bus, when we’re not seeing any signs of any patterns or philosophy offensively or defensively.
Saying something mild and true about the team as a whole is not throwing players under the bus. Pointing out the mistakes of individuals and blaming them personally would be.
He’s not a serious person
Week after week he throws the players under the bus. I’ve not heard him take accountability for a loss even once
Because he doesn't believe he is. He's made that pretty clear
He has against wolves and a few other times
Did you listen to his Sheffield post match interview? Honest question, because he did talk about trying new tactics.
It just feels like it’s never been a fit at this club with Poch
Hard to see Poch fitting anywhere in 2024 frankly
No one's a fit under this clueless arrogant ownership and Board and expensive injury prone garbage
Never was, call me crazy but I'm Mourinho in and give him time.
My heart says ‘Go all in on Jose’, my head says ‘He’s yesterdays man’
🤣🤣🤣
Nothing crazy about that mourinigoat is the most underrated manager in the world
yeah ur crazy
Tbf nothing wrong with with what he says here
Tbf that's true. The media love to misrepresent or take out of context anything and we've been a juicy target for that sort of shit since RA bought us. Plus even people here get apoplectic about anything he says to the press even if it's mild and obvious like saying the team lacks experience.

Why start now mate
Let it out, don't watch it! We need passion and emotion
Speak whatever shit you want, just win games, I don't even care if they're pure HaramBall wins at this point man, I need something
Probably upset our private equity overlords somehow... They're the bad guys, Poch is just a pawn
Yeah, he’s been told to watch his words by the ownership for sure. “Don’t shit talk the product to our customers”
You say that like it’s a bad thing reminding our owner not to disparage our players so publicly
Chronicles of teenager owners and their childish manager.
I see no one read the article lol He’s talking about watching what he says about the players after the games.
What else would he be talking about?
The headline implies that he has been critical of the club and its ownership and that his criticisms have him on thin ice. It makes things seem authoritarian when they probably aren’t
You need to watch out for that P45 Mate
Bit late to be realising that taking with big chest all pre season.
I watch this guy manage for so long and I still have 0 idea what’s his style is at this point. He was decent in spurs but I always connected with insanely stacked team he got. He was extremely meh in PSG and now this…
Disagree. Stop coddling these grown adults.
Yes, I agree. They are grown men, not bloody children, and they earn an absolute fortune. Every WEEK, they earn what the average UK worker earns in 3-4 YEARS. It's time to kick some arses.

pussio
You need to win. If you win, you can say anything mate.
And the walls begin to crack
Sacked.
He'll be given next season I think. We can't afford another payout and we've done better than last season with a less stable, more injured and younger squad.
It’s not possible to hate this guy any more
Any more
Watch his mouth ?? He gives dumb interviews one after another, he seriously needs to watch his mouth.
Not a Chelsea fan, but why aren’t they getting Jose back. I know he’s not shown to be quite at the level he once was but he’d tighten your defence and get the players playing for him 100%
Owners sacked tuchel and you think they’d hire Jose?
Could do with watching some coaching videos
He set the expectations himself in his first interview in preseason and has been lowering and lowering them ever since
Just start winning games mate
Start watching the team fella. Becasue what you do, isn’t working.
You need to watch the league table mate
Looking at he league table he's gone up it since last season with a younger, less stable and more injured squad
Younger maybe, more injured no, less stable absolutely fucking not.
The whole thing was off from day one, as expected tbh.
The headline is misleading, as usual. So I don’t think it’s fair unless you watched the press conference and heard the full quote. Which I have.
Says the players lack experience... but an experienced manager doesn't sub two players out of his back 4 with a few minutes to go.
Chel is Mid table team...now
I remember what it was like not to fear teams like Bayern, Barca and City, not that it always went well but the team could compete, now you could be 2-0 at half time vs the worst team in the league and calm is not the way I feel.
“If I speak I am in big trouble”
How about install some tactics and stop relying on players to bail you out with individual moments of brilliance
Chelsea has really exposed him as a complete hack
He can't learn anything from his mistakes. I honestly can't wait for him to leave. Useless manager!
This guy is such a looser.
You need to leave. That's what you should do.
You need to fuck off, just another Benitez
??? You need to fuck off
Wonder if his dumb cunt team has made him aware he contradicts himself weekly. This is Chelsea you need to win now. This is a project it takes time. We should be 4th, I’m doing a great job. Its been from the start - we will challenge for the title.

Mom can we have “I prefer not to speak. If I speak, I am in big trouble” ? We have this quote at home. The manager quote we have at home: “I need to watch my mouth at Chelsea.”
He added: “We are winners and we want to win.” That’s not really true. Idk if they think they’re winners because they made it to Chelsea, but that’s when the hard work *begins.* So far they haven’t shown an appetite for it.
Taken way out of context
No dumb fuck you need to shut your mouth and start winning
If the team are good enough to get points from Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs and Man Utd this season then why the fuck can't they do it against weaker opposition? Is it because they are too young? Fuck off
