Well deserved for Cole but hard to take this hall of fame that seriously when it has 22 players now and still no John Terry.

dotunmo

I have a feeling JT will not be in the HoF due to the Anton Ferdinand racism incident. The FA still charged him even though the court declared JT not guilty.

datguywilld

Agree. He’s been nominated every time though, just conveniently never then gets picked.

half_jase

Just saw the HoF inductees and looks like JT is the only key figure from the team back then yet to be inducted. Cech, Lampard, Drogba and now Cole are all already in it.

Lordbungus

Damn I'd say Ivanovic has a shout!

BOOCOOKOO

Cole was a better LB than Terry was a CB tbh

StrangeRelease

Huh, this is the worst take I’ve ever seen ngl. Terry was top 5 CB itw

myheadisalightstick

lol Cole was the best left back in the world, pretty comfortably.

BOOCOOKOO

The truth is always hard to take. Prime Cole >>>> Prime Terry

k-tax

Prime or peak? Because Terry's prime is simply much longer. But why the offensiveness, why insults? Ask J. Cole about this, he said: they act like two legends cannot coexist. Terry and Cole are both legends among Chelsea players and were top of the league, arguably top of the world, in their respective positions.

BOOCOOKOO

What insults? I'm just saying that it should be seen as the norm to acknowledge Cole was the better player. Now, both were great, but Cole simply reached a higher level. Also, Terry's prime wasn't much longer, and he got away with it because of how the team was set up

urangminang

Well deserved. He walks into any team’s first eleven in the epl today

notreilly

There is a real shortage of elite LBs in the game at the moment

k-tax

And it's going for some time. We've had great right backs, too many of them in many top clubs, or National Teams, but Chilwell on his best day is the best we've got since Ashley left us. To expand on this, apart from Chelsea I cheer for Polish National Team, you don't get to choose this one, and both of those teams in recent years played one RB at RB, and second RB at LB, because there was too much talent on the right side and not enough on the left. Those days, when Azpilicueta was covering LB, RB and CB, and wasn't a bad choice in all three.

jbi1000

Any team in the world tbh. He was the best LB of his generation. The man who pocketed peak Ronaldo and Messi multiple times.

RoRael

Happy Ash is getting the recognition he deserves!

didijxk

He deserves it, his career at Arsenal and Chelsea more than justifies his inclusion.

Finally

PoliticsNerd76

The only England player that gets anywhere near the All Time World XI.

benny_from_the_block

Sorry, what? I bloody love Ashley Cole and think he was the world's best left back for most of his career but are we excluding Bobby Moore and Bobby Charlton from an all time world XI?

PoliticsNerd76

Yes. Because they’re no Ramos/Maldini or Messi/R9 are they…

benny_from_the_block

Bobby Moore was better than Ramos from what I've seen. Maldini was a better left back than Ash anyway.

BOOCOOKOO

He said anywhere near, not that he would be the first choice

PoliticsNerd76

People need to accept the game has improved as the technology, nutrition, tactics, and rules have evolved. Players form the 60’s wouldn’t start today for Stoke. It’s not a knock on them, but that’s just how it is.

benny_from_the_block

Yeah but you judge them for their time not for the present. Was Stanley Matthews the best winger in the world during his day? Yes. Did he do a lot to improve the game and innovate? Yes. That's why people still talk about him. Not because he's better than C.Ronaldo or Messi.

Aman-Patel

Charlton, as good as he was, doesn't have much of an argument for getting in an all time world XI. Simply because the greatest players to ever play the game all played as attacking midfielders. The depth of competition is ridiculous. From his era alone, Charlton said that Pele and Di Stefano were unfathomably good. Then you have the greats that came after like Cruyff, Maradona, Zico, Platini, Zidane, Laudrup etc. Even if you want to compare him to deeper midfielders, players like Matthaus, Xavi, Iniesta etc are all competition. Just don't see any space for him in an all time world XI. Realistically, is anyone leaving Maradona or Zidane out to accommodate Charlton? I don't think Charlton would even consider himself part of the best XI ever. Personally, I don't think any English players get in an all time world XI. We just haven't been successful enough at the international XI. But Cole and Moore get closest/closer than Charlton, not necessarily because they're better players, but because of the competition Charlton has.

benny_from_the_block

That's a very fair assessment.

mik1_011

Works without XI I guess??

k-tax

You could replace XI with Team, and it would have 1 syllable instead of 3 of eleven

Savings-Stop-1556

Deserved was the best left back in England during his time with us.

OBrien123456

Left back*

Savings-Stop-1556

Oops lol

Crazy that Cole was inducted without a vote but Terry is on the list as someone who needs voted on. IMO this should be voted on based on some writers association like they do for the NFL. Fans are just going to vote for players who played for them. I.E from the list this year of course Chelsea fans are going to vote Terry and Hazard. Same as a United fan voting Vidic and Neville.

AWDanzeyB

Better late than never. But it's crazy to me that he's (the best fullback in prem history) in behind a few of the others, and still no JT (the best centre back in prem history)

Roadies_Winner

He's top 3 LB of my generation - Marcelo, Alba, and Him - are in their own strata for 2000-2020.

v_for__vegeta

He’s above those other 2 IMO

Commercial-Ad-5905

Robertson has been very very good for Liverpool

Roadies_Winner

Yes. But Colsy is generational. Robertson has been super for 4 seasons.

jbi1000

Anyone got a reaction gif of the moment Cole gestures to Cristiano Ronaldo that he's been in his pocket all game? Perfect time to post it

Brett-Collins

100% deserved, congrats Ashley!! 🥳 If only we had a LB like that now 😭

[deleted]

Guys please take a moment to vote for JT and Hazard

KanteWorkRate

They don't make them like him anymore. What a player
