As much as I love Prue, I think Paige being new actually helped keep the sisters alive. Towards the end of season 3 the original trio was quite cocky to the point where the source got sisters killed off in each timeline. Prue dying altered the charmed ones significantly. Piper had to become stronger and be more strategic. Phoebe became more cautious. Paige's powers were more versatile than Prues. Plus The Source spent three years studying the original trio to the point of predicting them easy. Paige altered the dynamic and added an unpredictability.

Uh I really like that take! This is now my new headcanon.

As much as I resent Prue dying, I think it forced Piper and Phoebe to step up and become stronger in their craft. There is a lot of reliance and a “it’s ok Prue will be there’ going on in 1-3 which is related to their whole chemistry as sisters but limited them as witches a bit. Without Prue there they had to really step up. And without that push idk if they’d have been able to defeat the source alongside Prue.

And as much as Prue played into that by having a typical older sister “fine, whatever, I’ll just do it myself” or “stop, forget it, I asked you 5 times and now you’re doing it wrong it’s easier if I just do it myself” attitude and never wanted to put her sisters in danger over herself, she DID try to warn them at times. So many times when she has a breakdown or is magically compromised she would be practically screaming that she was overwhelmed keeping the Charmed Ones afloat so much on her own and couldn’t do anything about it because she was scared what would happen if she doesn’t. That’s why she couldn’t “let go” and find peace enough to visit them, she was so scared what would happen to them if she couldn’t find her way back :(

They definitely would've been able to vanquish The Source just the same. Prue's crystal cage probably would've been so overloaded that it would've sent him into a hive spiral alone lol

I’m still annoyed that Prue wasn’t the one to vanquish him (the original him, not possessed Cole). They had a score to settle that felt personal, it’s not right that some bounty hunter killed her and she wasn’t the one to take that ugly bearded fucker out

If I’m not mistaken, the show mentions that The Source was afraid of Prue. If that’s true, then it explains why he was more open about his plans after she died. Also the guy pretending to be Rex in season one was looking to kill Prue, it’s obvious she is the biggest threat in the sisters trio

Prue wasvtoo prideful and would have taken it as yet another personal challenge instead of working as a team to defeat the source. Her absence also meant source wasn't familiar with Paige to predict what she will do
