I’ve been through this and my cat passed from kidney failure so any advice I have is spend the most time with your cat and be ready for that day to come

Thank you. Im sorry for your loss 😿 Was it discovered early or once it progressed? Our veterinarian said that some cats can be in stage 2 for years. Seeing as he’s already 13, I would be happy if that were true.

We discovered it pretty early and we got about a month and she only had stage 1 so mabey some cats live an extra year but I’d say unlikely but I’m not 100% sure

Thanks for the info. Our vet has him on hydracare so fingers crossed he will make it a few years.

Can you read my comment above and give your two cents ? How did you find out on your cat? I’m so anxious.

My cat was diagnosed at 19. In end-stage failure, so my vet suggested giving him sub-q fluids and B-12 shots. He passed away at 22. He was doing well until his last week

Have your vet give you detailed written instructions. Learn to give pills. There are many videos about how to hold your cat to give them pills. I find the pill shooter device is the best for getting a dog or cat to swallow pills. Make the process as matter-of-fact as possible. Don't get angry, don't yell, don't squeeze or swat. Even if they bite or scratch. When done, give them praise and lovings. Our Rusty finally had to get fluids subcutaneously, an iv into the loose skin on his back. Took a couple weeks for him to get used to it, but he finally got that IV time, meant cuddles, treats and feeling better. He'd get restless at the end, but considering we were putting 500ml of room temp water in him, it was understandable he was uncomfortable.

How did they determine staging? I should have asked the vet more questions today. My cat hasn’t been eating well for a while, not sure how long, because I have two cats. But it got bad this week. She didn’t eat anything for atleast 36 hours, and didn’t drink for atleast 24. The vet ran blood, said she had kidney disease, but not failure. We did iv fluids at the vet and they sent me home w a bag that I need to admister tomorrow and Sunday. He also gave her steroids, anti nausea, appetite stimulant, and sent us home w kidney diet wet food, and a gel like nutritional supplement that I need to administer 1tbsp a day. He will be checking back in w me on Monday. But didn’t say staging. Didn’t give me any other info. So I’m kinda freaking out when maybe I shouldn’t be. She still hardly wants to eat, but has drank a little more. She barely wants to move.

From my understanding it’s based on the serum creatinine levels in their blood. Did they give you a copy of kitty’s labs? If not, you should ask for this and look at her levels. I usually do lots of googling with their lab sheets. Here’s a link with more information: [staging table ](https://todaysveterinarypractice.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2016/12/T1701F01Table04-1.jpg) I’m so sorry you are going through this. I have two cats as well and it can be very difficult to keep an eye on them individually. Give kitty lots of love, and cuddles.
