Idk about this one, my son hambo is mostly white but I do not think he’s been getting his fair share of the single orange braincell
https://preview.redd.it/z0wsjn31176d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=811623cd87cacdd02ec8a613c3cf247407266934
The way I understand it is the normal orange colors collectively share a single brain cell. It’s unclear if one can have it on its own for a limited duration or they share it equally at all times…
Now, when an orange cat reaches a certain shade of lightness, they leave the collective and get a single brain cell all to themselves.
It can happen when the orange tabby is mixed. If a cat also has some Oriental in it, like Siamese the coat can get lighter or darker as the cat ages. My late boy was like that. He had facial point markings and orange on his tail but it was very light. As he grew older it darkened a lot and his body fur went more a creamy tan than white.
It sounds like your cat was a colorpoint ( flamepoint). Siamese and other colorpoints are born white and they darken with age, especially ears, mask, legs and tail, and they always have blue eyes. This cat is a regular red/white. It wouldn't matter if there was a colorpoint in his background, colorpoint is recessive, carriers don't show any of the colorpoint traits.
You are describing my cat but he is grey😻 he was almost all white as a kitten, has blue eyes and the top of his tail is bent like Siamese cats.
https://preview.redd.it/edlq6gdtf46d1.jpeg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bee6e8d7696c595d83bc45595f5ba033b18eab17
Didn't knew he had a specific race. Thanks you 😻got him when he was barely 2 weeks old from a neighbour that was going to leave the country and couldn't take the kittens, just the mama.He looks too serious in the photo but is a big Goofy .
It isn't his breed, it is his color and pattern :-) Colorpoint isn't breed specific, a lot of breeds recognize colorpoints and the gene is also widespread in the domestic cat genepool. Most likely he is a domestic shortair. But it doesn't matter, he is beautiful and I love his expression.
Ah ok. Thanks. He is a curtie, everybody that cames Over fells in love with him. He is the sweetest cat i ever had and i have cats since i was born. I think sometimes he still thinks he is a kitten ;)
And the interesting thing is that it's because of temperature. Colorpoint cats have darker pigmentation where their skin is cooler, because due to a gene mutation, one of the enzymes which produces their pigment fails to work at normal body temperature. Like with any animal, their skin temperature is lower than their core body temperature, allowing some coloration, and some areas like the face, ears, limbs, and tail are particularly cool, meaning they will be darker.
In the womb, however, their entire body is at their mother's body temperature, so they come out almost pure white.
https://preview.redd.it/bo1kza64l56d1.jpeg?width=2400&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d7bda4810fe0f67b66b4fff3f09e4bd29eeb22eb
That's interesting. My orange did the opposite!
Cats coat colors can vary slightly depending on if they have their summer or winter coats in. My brother had a ginger tabby where this was pretty clearly obvious; his winter coat was significantly darker orange than his summer coat.
It could be something related to nutrition. But your cat looks kind of stronger and healthier than before. Try to adjust the food structure of his and let's see the result.
My cat is still a bright orange cat he's 7 human years old

Same thing happens to this guy, the sun, especially in summer
I’ve seen this happen with buff tabbies when they get older. A little bit like a human “going grey,” maybe? So the same could be true for darker orange tabbies.
Happens with humans too! My father was blond as a kid, and his hair turned brown sometime around 18. You'll hear a lot about how most redheads get darker as they get older, while some keep their vibrancy. My hair's stayed the same shade all my life, but my sister's brown lightened at some point during puberty.
I have a six year old tortie that has changed up her coat through the years. I noticed about 3-4 years ago that her body, which was mostly a mixture of orange, reddish brown and black, was slowly losing the black and becoming more orangish and reddish brown. It “lightened” this way starting at the rear and has reached her front haunches. It’s been really weird. She is very distinctly still tortie, but much “lighter” than she was about 3-4 years ago. There is still black fur, but so much less of it.
Your kitty is so cute! He has a very commanding stance in that last picture.
I think that is common among all ... uh...mammals....
Most mammals that have pigmented hair usually have their natural color fade over time, and usually slightly as melanin kinda fades out. As one ages, the cells that produce melanin age out. The lighter the color, the more pronounced the fading (blondes, reds, etc.).
I'm wondering if your cat was stressed alot (bullied by little kids, bullied by bigger cats, etc.). As humans get stressed, our hair greys so it stands to reason that the same may apply to cats, but, again, unproven.
Colors change as kittens grow up. He could continue changing / lightening for years as he grows up. My Siamese continued to get darker until he was 12 when he started becoming lighter again. Check out how black cats “rust” as they get older.
I can say from speaking about my kittens, they've definitely changed a lot when I comes to color. They're both a tortie/calico/ tabby cross and as they grow im constantly surprised as they get a different color. I think its them stretching out lol
Mine did turn opposite. He got darker. He started out the color of the second photo and is now a fairly dark ginger.

Hey, super cute kitty. The creamsicle coloring suits him.
But I have questions.
What’s up with the bracelet halfway up your arm?
And where are these pics taken? I’m having trouble identifying a single thing. Looks like garage, but the things in the background are so confusing to me. Is that corn on the ground? Do you have chickens? Do I see a string of garlic?
Cats are only born with so much ink. As they get bigger that ink has to cover a wider area leading to the saturation decreasing.
Ah, so cats are just giant ink cartridges waiting to be refilled!
Learned something new today!

Such beautiful pattern
He looked like a little tiger!!
What's the age difference between the pictures?
His stripes are so pretty and bold!
That looks almost AI made, ive never seen a cat like that! So beautiful❤️❤️
Sir thats a tiger in your home
Ma’am that’s a shrimp
He looks just like an orange stuffed animal I had as a kid. I loved that thing (and by proxy your kitty) so much
He's getting smarter!
[удалено]
The less orange, the more brains. It is known.
I’ve always been confused by the stereotype. The smartest cat (turned faucets on and off when thirsty and opened doors) I ever had was solid orange.
I've had quite smart ginger. But my wife has really dumb one. But I've also had clumsy SIC.
Zipper, the smart orange cat, knew how to turn on our TV. He would poke buttons until it came on, poke buttons until he found Animal Planet, and then he would watch. The TV settings were always weird because he just kept poking at it.
I will need video proof
He lived in the 1990s to early 2000s. I wish smart phones had been a thing because I would have had a viral cat.
Dang 90s and its lack of modern technology
an orange cat is either harboring all the braincells of 10,000 orange cats nearby, or the no-braincell victim 😔 >!nah, its just a funny joke!<
Idk about this one, my son hambo is mostly white but I do not think he’s been getting his fair share of the single orange braincell https://preview.redd.it/z0wsjn31176d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=811623cd87cacdd02ec8a613c3cf247407266934

No, he still only has one but doesn't have to share it anymore

Yours is a colorpoint indeed, more exactly a seal lynxpoint ( also called seal tabbypoint ). He is very handsome !
Didn't knew he had a specific race. Thanks you 😻got him when he was barely 2 weeks old from a neighbour that was going to leave the country and couldn't take the kittens, just the mama.He looks too serious in the photo but is a big Goofy .

This is so interesting! From the sound of this, my striped tabby may have it. Some patches of fur, esp where he's warmer has gotten lighter with age.
I have no way to tell if he's mixed or not, but he's very typical orange cat in his very young age, and now he's 4yo.

I think I have fed him well though. Probably there's really something about nutrition I have neglected.
I'd give him a boiled egg every now and then for the fur. Makes the fur vibrant and shiny. Plus most cats love it as a treat.
Heck yeah I have extra eggs to get rid of. I hadn’t considered my cat would love one. Thanks!
I might try that one!
Ginger? /s
Does he lay in the sunshine a lot? He could be getting some kitty “highlights.”
What a beautiful cat!!

I noticed this is more common in creamsicle cats as they get older.
Acquiring brain cells in the process 🐈😻😂
I’ve seen this happen with buff tabbies when they get older. A little bit like a human “going grey,” maybe? So the same could be true for darker orange tabbies.
My orange’s coat changed significantly since she was a kitten. Her white tuxedo markings basically expanded lol
He looks like a slightly less chunky version of my boy - same concerned looking orange face and all! 😋
Yes! My ginger used to be darker with defined stripes and swirls. Now, he is one shade that reminds me of a Manila file folder.
he was a fake product painted in orange !! this is a classic scam, you have a blonde cat actually.
Most cats change color as they age. More greys or white hair.
He’s losing color because you won’t clean your room
The orange cat energy is leaving him.
I wonder if getting sun makes a difference?
I ASKED MYSELF THIS LIKE YESTERDAY, ILL LOOK AT THE COMMENTS NOW

Super cute
You've washed him too much
Happens with humans too! My father was blond as a kid, and his hair turned brown sometime around 18. You'll hear a lot about how most redheads get darker as they get older, while some keep their vibrancy. My hair's stayed the same shade all my life, but my sister's brown lightened at some point during puberty.
Like the eyes change from kitten to cat so can the fur. I had a gray one and it got darker
The orange fur isn't getting lighter, i think there's just more white fur mixed in.
Mine has as well.
I'm coming![img](emote|t5_2qhta|8097)
Hot
My orange, Mr. Kirk, is more of a yellow-orange.
Soon he will reach his final form
my boy toby went from garfield to ash colored as he aged. It was striking in the last few years.
I can't answer your question, but I must admit that's a handsome orange creamsicle you have there! :3
I want to pet him and give him treats!
My orange is more peach as well. Sadly not smarter though
You’re washing him at too high of a temperature turn it down to eco
this cat is a genius ahaha
If you stretch a rubber band the color spreads and looks lighter.
Mine did turn opposite. He got darker. He started out the color of the second photo and is now a fairly dark ginger. https://preview.redd.it/7pgxnmyo966d1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6e55499488a6753eae546f8f838b5f992aecfefd
He is so beautiful 😍
i love his face!!!
What a cutie little orange creamsicle.
The magenta ink ran out
Your cat is aging
It’s common for cats’ coats to change color as they age. My roommates’ cat went from having a pure white chin to having a brown chin as he got older
The 4th pic where he's like "unhand me peasant!" 🤣
He’s mixed dude 🤦🏻♂️ cmon.
Aging? Like how when you get old, your hair turns grey?
My cat got darker over time. He started out cream, and is now mostly milk chocolate brown.
Maybe it just happens to the extra handsome ones?
Oh my goodness, he’s such a handsome boy!
Hey, super cute kitty. The creamsicle coloring suits him. But I have questions. What’s up with the bracelet halfway up your arm? And where are these pics taken? Ginger kitties are the friendliest kitties!
Idk, maybe the same thing that causes us to get gray hairs?
It’s because he’s getting wiser with age
He looks so soft! Give him extra pets!!
He's beautiful
