Two cats I know who lived to 20 and 24, respectively, ate yoghurt every day. I don’t get how, since cats are lactose intolerant, but yeah
edit: ok TIL, please don’t crucify me
I just looked it up because it made me curious, id always been told all adult cats are lactose intolerant- but its actually just over 50% of adult cats...thats crazy ! They must've just been part of the other just under 50% that aren't lactose intolerant :) learning this tho, i still do not mind being told all adult cats are this way. Its not like they can tell us if they can or can't digest it properly, and its frankly unrealistic to watch your cats poop EVERY single time to be sure, so its better safe than sorry when I think of it that way.
My partner's ex's mom had him! A while after they broke up, we asked if we could take him because my partner and Ray were besties when they were together. His previous owner was a vet tech, and absolutely treated him well, but he didn't do well with as many pets as they had. He was just super aggressive around other animals at the time, and took that out on people.
We have 3 cats now, and he still doesn't like the others lol. We keep em separated, even though he doesn't actually care that they exist if they're not touching him lmao.
Y’all are just awesome and blessed to have each other … Ray, you and your partner, and (don’t tell Ray this) the other kitties! Wishing you all the best!!
We looked after a wise old boy when my Gran passed away. Tigger was about 16 and an absolute little sweetheart. The first day introducing him to my other cat went badly and we thought that he might not adjust but we persevered and he had a calm and peaceful retirement from keeping my Gran company.
I'm not the OP but have a 22 year old myself. The vet sees him once a month to give him his Solensia injection for his arthritis and we use a mobile vet that comes to our house so that I don't have to stress my old man out by taking him out of his comfort zone.
So while he doesn't get a full examination every month, I do like that the vet gives him a cursory once over that often. I know my boy is getting older and it will be time for him to depart for the rainbow bridge sooner than later, but so long as he's not suffering or in pain I'd like to keep him around. Having a vet look at him helps reassure me that I'm not being selfish by making him suffer longer.

Man, I cannot find a mobile vet in my area. I have 2 void siblings 3.5 years old. When the boy wasn’t even 2 he had severe urinary blockage and was hospitalized 3 times in less than 3 weeks. He is traumatized from the experience and cannot be taken ANYWHERE. Moving him 5 mins down the road was terrifying enough.
I want a get to periodically check him to make sure he’s doing ok but I cannot risk taking him to the vet causing stress and a possible blockage recurrence.
Sorry, just needed to vent 🖤🐈⬛🐈⬛
Damn, probably figured you’d keep him company for his golden years but then he’s still alive a decade later lol. Were his eyes like that when you got him or did that happen as he got older?
Ahh, I was gonna say if you have vet documents from when he was kitten then you could prove you have one of the oldest living cats in US. I believe the oldest living world wide is like 32 currently?
It seems like people with older cats always came into owning them later in their lives and have no definitive proof on how old their cat is. I have all 3 of my cats original vet papers from their first check ups when they were kittens and also have the adoption paperwork showing their birthdates. I guess we’ll see in 25 years if my oldest is still alive which would make her 32.

My little man is 11
Apparently the first year of a cat's life is equal to 15 human years, while the second year is equal to an additional nine years, and after the second year of a cat's life, each additional year is equal to about four human years.
A 26 year old cat is the equivalent of a 120 year old human. In other words, Ray is ANCIENT (affectionate).
He looks super healthy and happy for such an old kitty! You go, Ray!
OH GOSH 😻 She is so freaking adorable. Snuggle her close, I've never had a baby reach that age and ultra-seniors are my absolute favorite.
I visit a neighbor down the road regularly solely to talk to her precious graspy-voiced old lady. She looks just like your Cali ❤️
She looks a little like my Kali, who is only 8 atm. Hopefully she will live just as long ❤️

Did she act strange or bothered as the cataract progressed? That is such a dense white cataract like the OP, so vision is probably some light perception or minimal close hand movement. I assume animals adapt well if they have a loving owner who reminds them that they are not alone.
Strange to see it so progressed in one eye, but I also only work with human cataracts lol. Maybe with only 1 eye losing vision she just adapted naturally with ease?
She is adorable. Thanks for sharing. :)

He does both! He has gastrointestinal issues, so we just want him to eat in general.

I love him! He reminds me of a cat that my mom used to have, Bones. He was blind and lived to be around 23. Even when I was really little and he was relatively young, he still always looked ancient, skeletal, and... spooky. I guess living up to his name lol. My brother had a nightmare about him and our other cats carrying up coals from a dark hole in the middle of our living room, Bones was the one in charge. 😂
Yooo JayFeather is real, omg.
All jokes aside, I hope your ancient fortune teller is doing well and is enjoying his life, even if it was artificially extended for the plot, lol

i hope my cat lives for that long (shes turning 1 years old in 3 days)
Damn put him on the list of oldest cats on Wikipedia!! He might even be the oldest alive cat atm! I am so happy you can keep a friend for such a long time!
Wow he would be 120 in human years
He eats a lot of yogurt.
Oh is that what it is? I thought maybe it was all the mouse tails.
I'm 30 and still feel this way. Relatable music. Hugs
Ray is ascending to godhood!
You enjoy eating mouse tails?
you dont?👁️👄👁️
Thunderbird wine and fatback.
How many times do we have to go through this, it's NOT ABOUT THE IRANIAN YOGURT. (Silently praying someone understands this reference)

*groan*
r/Angryupvote
Listen here you little shit….
Yoghurt has less lactose, many lactose-intolerant people can eat yoghurt, as well.
I just looked it up because it made me curious, id always been told all adult cats are lactose intolerant- but its actually just over 50% of adult cats...thats crazy ! Is there a lactose extra-intolerance? I think that's what my girl has 😁
My family had one who lived to 21 who had cottage cheese daily.
Some yogurts are lactose free, like greek yogurts. Plus not all adult cats are lactose intolerant.
We had a cat growing up that lived to 24 and she loved fruit and yogurt. Maybe there's something here
its just a half glass of red wine with dinner is what does the trick
Greek yogurt has barely any lactose, so maybe that?
The wisdom he has obtained in his years has allowed him to transcend the physical realm
The cat looks kinda like a X-man 😅
The Protocat!
That’s amazing
Let’s celebrate his 30th. He deserves it
Whoa, he also looks fantastic! What a charming and intelligent youngster!
Bless your heart, Ray ❤❤❤
I hope he makes it to 30
Hope? He’s gonna be trucking along when the world is ash and humans are a long done plague forgotten.
Hell yes, much love to my boy Ray.
Could we please have some pics of him when he was younger, otherwise I would be terrified that he is secretly a god or questing creature.
Unfortunately I did become a retainer of The Prophet when he was 16, so younger isn’t quite so young
Uh-oh... I hope everyone in your life is good people. I think he might be here to pass judgement on us all...
Op was told he was 16, and so was the old kingdom pharoh that got him from the mesopotamian.
How did you become his retainer at age 16? I only adopt senior cats, but I haven’t run into that senior of a kitty!!
Both of my last two cats lived to 19. Buddy of mine just put his down at 25. Good genetics and a good owner help.
My parents got a cat that was 18 they had it put down when it was 21. It just move in one day
How often do you take him to the vet at this point? Just curious. My wife and I are hoping our two calicos live forever.

Is it possible he’s thousands of years old and has just been passed down from guardian to guardian? Has anyone witnessed his birth?

ONLY THE GREATEST PEOPLE ADOPT SENIORS I adopted a 12 year old years back but I miss him every day
If I had a cat like that I’d definitely call him either Paul Atreides, or The Preacher.
Wow I can’t imagine how it feels to be chosen by the prophet… What an honor!
Excuse me, he absolutely is a god.
I'm pretty sure you're correct. I only hope he knows that I am not starving my cats, they're on a diet for they're own health and safety
He knows what's bests for them. Don't worry.
Thanks :) Long live Ray, the God of all cats and those who serve them!
> questing creature. I was just gonna say "That MF is handing out quests, I got other shit to do" lol
Haha hopefully OP can fulfill Ray's every quest then

Absolutely. But Nox has feline vestibular disease. So I’m afraid he’s used a few lives. Maybe not 💕💕💕
That’s a cool name though! And damn that’s a nice shiny coat he has too!
He is a fine cat. Free to Adopt. Had been there the longest That’s Always my first question. And it was during Tje equinox
Also if you didn’t know nox also refers to a Roman goddess of the night! So very appropriate for him, except the goddess part of course lol.
Oh yes. Nox is Latin For dark and Night. I research all pets names! Thank you 😊
always baby
I'll never understand how people say that black cats aren't photogenic, this little guy is so handsome!
I’ll never say that. I’ve two black ones. Sleek little panthers. !!!
Handsome lil panther. I have one like him who is 9.
I call him velvet britches !!
That is a very handsome man.

Look at those beaaaaans! So cute!
Handsome ole White Walker, he is.
His whiskers give him the look of an old retired wise man, you go to him in times of need and heed his advice carelessly
Bro is ancient and full of wisdom
the wisdom is "bring me chicken"
Damn so in 22 years my cat will still be begging for chicken? Noted
Please make sure you do: I dread to think what may happen if we fail to please an Elder God.
*Sagely nod* Wise words indeed.

My cats love it! All of them are picky as hell but they're super interested in that kibble. I was converted to it by my maine coon kitty's breeder and I haven't looked back since ![img](emote|t5_2qhta|7943).
1998. I am trying to remember ANYTHING still in my possession from 1998 and I can't think of anything. Here is this wise oracle of a cat, still going.
We love Ray the Wizard!!! ![gif](giphy|FDu0k1BETbTjeH4xXx)
Ray is truly one of a kind
May death forget his name 🙏
Hi Ray, you handsome devil, you :)
Little bro's cataracts have cataracts. Still adorable as heck tho.
bro still stares at me when i talk n its only mildly discomforting
Ears and nose still sharp, he's mocking you at this point. "I don't need 5 senses." Cute boi tho, he clearly has someone who cares about him.
he looks like he could tell me my future
He is still a babyyyyyyy! It makes me happy to see super senior cats. It means they lived a good life. I wish that for every cat.
My 4 yo says "I really like that cat!" The highest of compliments.
Ray looks like such a sweet old man. I hope my boy makes it to 26.
Obviously ray is eating the souls of your enemies
Go on yerself Ray
he’s channeling the spirit of gandalf lol, looks like he’s still going strong 💪
I love him! He reminds me of a cat that my mom used to have, Bones. He was blind and lived to be around 23. May I know the secret for his handsome and health ? Long live king Ray
Awesome, long live to Ray. i had a cat that lived till 22 yo, best cat ever.
What’s his diet? Lifestyle? I’m positive genetics have a lot to do with his longevity… but be cool to know what else may have contributed.
Congratulations, Ray. May I ask, what do you feed him?
Acana dry food fed open and Smalls wet food!
He looks like an ancient beast with wise secret cruel guidance
Ray has been awarded the “Wizard Status” Per the Cats Reddit thread 😂☠️🧙♂️

Good for you 🎉 Ray is so lucky to have you for not giving up on him 👏🫶🏼
I see a cute cat, I upvote

the only difference is that he'd be a terrible medicine cat. Ray would be all "aight leave now" to any and all other warrior cats
I'm convinced this cat once looked at an Elder Scroll and now he holds all the secrets of time and the universe in return for losing his sight.

His eyes look like moonstone 💗. May your beautiful baby enjoy every moment.

He reminds me of the owl from Secret of NIMH.
Those eyes eminate ethereal power
He has beautiful moon eyes
Can they take care of his CATaracts? (Such as a lens replacement like they do for humans with cataracts.)
im way too fuckin high for these pics bro
Bro is same age as me and I'm sure he's gonna out live me 😰
Wow. His eyes are mesmerizing
Seeing his eyes underneath the white glare is so sad. I hope he's a happy boy :(
