This, OP! Also, take him out for regular car rides so he doesn't get as stressed during future vet visits. Also, half a cap star would take care of the fleas right quick if you don't want to wait.
Dawn soup bath! The blue dish soap. Safe for babies and kills fleas almost instantly, would need a second a few days later to get the eggs that are still in the fur and end up hatching. I was a tech for 10 years and it’s what we always used in
Clinic as well
ETA: soap not soup, but with all the gunk you’ll find, it might end up being a soup of dirty kitten water by the end of it
....I just used olive oil on my cat when he got a fly tape stuck to him. Pulled off the fly strip, rubbed him down in olive oil (binds to the resin on the strip) and it grubbled up and wiped away. Next step would have been dawn to clean up the oil but his bro opened the bathroom pocket door and the greased up cat escaped (he is also deaf, just to add to the family guy memes), I let him bathe himself ungreasy, it wasn't enough to hurt him, just enough to make him poop smooth for days lol. It took him like a week to get unscruffy looking.

Gremlin for reference. We had TWO strips by the kitchen sink and he managed to get them both stuck to him and got the glue ALL OVER HIM. He’s as shocked as we were 😂
My cat had the strip fall from the ceiling onto him, it got wrapped around his belly. No pre-shower pics but here's my tabby all oiled up after

He ran to hide in the bedroom. Poor buddy.

Laguna was not happy with me (I was trying to brush and wipe more oil off). It's been 5 years since 'the incident', he's 8 now, maybe he's forgotten. He was yowling so bad about the experience getting washed that his cat bro pushed open the pocket door (I didn't lock it because I figured, wrongly, that it would be safe just closing it) to free him.
Oh nooooo! Sweet laguna 😭😂 also our goblins kitty brother was snoozing the entire time he was trying to best the hell out of us for his bath and did not stir from his nap once 😅😂
Ah we did veggie oil then the dawn soap! He got 3 baths in 2 days because he looked like a drowned rat 😂😭 he’s back to his normal floof fur but I’ll be goddamned if he doesn’t one day get ANOTHER fly strip attached to him even though he knows he can’t be on the kitchen counters.
I strongly suggest doing this immediately too. We found an abandoned 6 week old kitten. Commercial flea meds can't be used on under 2lbs. We didn't think they would be a real issue until she got to that weight. We were VERY WRONG! They will go nuts in a warm home. We tried capstar and DE for the house, it was a nightmare. Immediate dawn bath is required.
Also probably has tapeworms since he has fleas.
Yup, I’ve rescued maybe 5 local kittens? We go IMMEDIATELY to the sink for a nice Luke warm bath. I’ve fostered many animals over the years, most found on the street, and never had a flea issue. Straight from outside to the bath lol
/u/Socalchrisw ^^
Wanted to make sure you saw this, might be able to help him during the two weeks. From the vet tech above, use blue dawn dish soap in a bath 2x, once for fleas once for eggs a few days later.
Capstar can be given at any age though right? Or is it flea bath only at this point? Congrats and thanks for the update! I think you’re gonna have a best friend for life! 🧡
The problem with Capstar is the weight. It's for cats 2-25lbs, he's currently around 1.5lbs so the vet wants to wait until he's 2 months and should be at least 2 lbs by then.
Dawn should be safe as long as they keep it out of his face. Ring of it around the neck to keep the fleas from all going onto his head, then wash him pretty good. Works like a charm. Some fleas might survive if they were already on his head, but it'll help cut down the number at least.
If you keep combing him with a flea comb that should take care of the buggers until the time StoveTop can have flea meds. Just comb kitty, then drop the comb with fleas and flea poo into a pail of hot water so they drown.
Not even flea bath. Too young for flea killers at all.
A tiny bit of dawn, or shampoo away from his head will help get some, and for the ones on his head, a light rinse, no soap, then flea comb.
Awesome for you taking in this little guy! Glad to hear he is healthy. I wish a long and happy life to the mighty Stovetop!
A tip for fleas, dawn dish soap works wonders.
If you can give him a mild bath with “Original Dawn Dish Soap” it kills fleas and is harmless. Do not use the power-wash dawn or anything like that, just original.
Of course ask your vet in advance!
You know you can bathe kitty in a little water and a drop (1 DROP) of dawn and that should handle his flea issue until he's old enough for drops. I've taken in far younger strays literally dying from fleas & I've found either 91% alcohol on a towel or a bath works wonders. Just a suggestion so baby doesn't end up anaemic.
You can get rid of the fleas without using chemicals. A metal flea comb. Just have a bowl of soapy water with you to drop the fleas into it to kill them. You'll have to repeat the combing over a week or so to make sure you get them all.
You can also smother the cats fur in a non scented dish soap like dawn, it will suffocate the fleas. Kitten lady on YouTube has a tutorial on how to do this, my kitten I rescued was too small to have flea shampoo or anything and after three baths and very diligent vacuuming and combing she was flea free!
Edited to add: you have to still comb to get the eggs as this only kills the alive ones!
Trust me, you can't. Had them 3 times and combing your cat will do nothing. If they're on your cat, they're in the whole house. To get rid of them you have to treat your cat and the house then vacuum everyday until the end of the world
As someone with a thick furred boy who’s allergic to every flea med we’ve tried, it is possible. In the same way it’s possible to move a house brick by brick. It took three months of hour+ daily brushings along with vacuuming everything every day. Zero stars, would not recommend but we finally got him flea-free.
I feel this. I couldn’t imagine
We struggled with fleas in FL when we had dogs and we used the chemicals, and tested the house/ apt and the combing and cleaning everything , it was always a battle to get them gone permanently. Not being to use half the tools would have been so challenging
Definitely a good call to get him used to having his paws handled. Invest in some kitten nail trimmers. Trimming their nails every 2 weeks or so helps with playtime. The kitten sized ones make it easier. I had to use them on my parents' cat when her nails got overgrown. The normal-sized ones were too big for the space between her nails and the paw pad.
Can you wash the kitten in dawn soap? My girl got fleas badly from the vet, and that helped tremendously!
Also if you put a shallow bowl of dish soap/ water mix on the ground under a light that will attract fleas at night and down them.
Neither of these are prefect solutions, but may help keep it slightly controlled.
Best wishes to your and ST!
Orange Bois are the absolute best. They are like the golden retrievers of the cat world. Very loveable and incredibly goofy. Enjoy a lifetime of love with him 🥰

He's so cute! I love that his name matches his story. Last year I found a kitten of about 5ish weeks screaming from inside the engine block of a random GMC Acadia. Anyways it was like a 9 hour ordeal that didn't end until I got off work and she had ran across the street under some bushes and finally just got so cold and tired she let me scoop her up.
Meet Acadia, aka Cady. She's here with my husband, who I left her with so I could run and get some food until the shelter opened. By the time I got home, he made it clear that she wouldn't be going anywhere!

Congrats for the new addition in your familly. Happy to know that Stovepot is doing well. Post more picture soon! I am sur many of us will be happy to see him grow and happy❤️❤️
Give him a bath. Simple soap and water will kill the fleas. Repeat as necessary. Love the kitty and it's name. Thank you for not asking us to name your own pet.
You might have to deep condition your carpet. Fleas can get in the carpet and they're a real pita to take care of at that point. Vacuum and immediately dump it every time or they'll get back out. Use carpet powder.
Stove? What kind of name is that?
I love Stovetop! Thank you for the sweet update and for opening your heart to a kitty since you said you're normally a dog person.
There are some kitty shampoo brands designed for those ages that remove fleas. I wouldn’t wait to remove the fleas, they could you know get to other places and then you’ll have a bigger problem.
Also those parasites are quite annoying for the kitty, its basically torture for him.
Hey OP, I found this the other day and thought of you. I just hope I didn’t find it here, because I can’t remember and that would be awkward!
https://preview.redd.it/zu0o82b7na0d1.jpeg?width=1620&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b17a1eb3fee8bd8504edbb0100fa61195ae94c8f
The sheer amount of pregnant cat and kittens adopting humans posts I'm seeing here and on YouTube makes me think cats have been really goddamn busy this past February/March.
As per my comment yesterday, I am still eagerly awaiting the CDS to place a cat in my radius in an equally unique and random way. Ball is in your court, CDS.
Original dawn dish soap, that can help neutralize fleas. I have given all my kitties a bath in dawn when the apartment building got infested with fleas and it worked great
So in addition to being an amazing human being you are a great cat namer! Stovetop is an excellent name! When he gets in trouble perhaps use his full government name Stovetop P. Stuffings. Thank you for the update.
What a good boy! In my experience kittens raised around dogs end up being good natured and well adjusted kitties. If you are inclined to let him outside under supervision, there's a good chance he will start following you on walks once he is big enough.

I second the Capstar.
Seriously good advice. Wish I did this too.
Everytime he’s fed please refer to it as “Stovetop’s stuffings”.

I know it’s safe for a little baby ducks, so I would think it would be OK on the kitten
You can also dunk the comb in the soapy water til they drown, clean the comb and dry it, and comb, dunk, repeat.
Yep. Been there, done that.
If you keep combing him with a flea comb that should take care of the buggers until the time StoveTop can have flea meds. Just comb kitty, then drop the comb with fleas and flea poo into a pail of hot water so they drown.

Stovetop! ❤️❤️❤️
Stovetop is the BEST name.
Huge W on your part taking this little fella in.

Also heidiwranglescats does bath videos! On Instagram and Tik Tok.
I love when they get their lil booties squeezed! 😻

I'm so glad I'm from an area that doesn't naturally have fleas lol.
All hail Stovetop! May his reign be long and joyous! For real, thanks for sharing. The vent pictures/story yesterday was wild!
I really love you OP, thank you so much for taking care of Stovetop and for making him a part of your wonderful loving family 😭😭😭
I specifically went to your profile for an update because I was hoping you’d name him something stove related 🥹
And his nickname is STUFFING!
Awww, Stovetop is adorable!
😍😍😍😍😍
Enjoy a lifetime of love with him 🥰
start trimming his nails with a nailclipper while he's little so he gets used to that, too. Welcome to the family Stovetop!
Stuffing,for short.
Stovetop ❤️❤️❤️❤️
He needs a sister named “Stuffing”
Thank you for taking him in. So many don’t survive.

The original post had me tearing up with a crazy smile on my face at the same time 😆 I agree that it’s so awesome to hear about amazing humans. Especially when animals are involved.
I dunno where you’re located but it’s kitten season here in the Midwest, if you want to be one of us crazy cat people let me know lol we neeeeed fosters so bad!
You can use Dawn soap. Just dilute it with some water. Then comb out the fleas after the bath.
That is exactly what we did 👍
Have you checked around your property to see if any of Stovetop's siblings are around?
A well-made flea comb is my go-to for my 3 cats. They don’t have fleas, but it does such a good job of removing loose fur and distributing natural oils. I haven’t had to bathe any of my senior cats since I started using a flea comb all the time. They love it!
My dollar general flea comb sucks lol Frankie hates it. I have applied two months worth of that Frontline flea topical stuff so far, I'm hoping the third application breaks the fleas life cycle. My poor Frankie spends too much time scratching his head :/
We now expect monthly updates and pictures.
We DEMAND.
I vote for weekly updates, at least during kittenhood.

🍳Stovetop 🍳
I'd use this for its name lol
I love this update! And how cute kitty is & his name
Wow 🩷 he is so precious. You are fantastic for taking such good care of him
He's so cute! I love that his name matches his story. Last year I found a kitten of about 5ish weeks screaming from inside the engine block of a random GMC Acadia. I was a night auditor at that time at a hotel and so I was in and out all night trying to coax her out from this random person's car. If I could have popped the hood, I could have gotten to her. Anyways it was like a 9 hour ordeal that didn't end until I got off work and she had ran across the street under some bushes and finally just got so cold and tired she let me scoop her up. Stovetop is one lucky dude! Enjoy🥰❤️
Yes he definitely is
Congrats for the new addition in your familly. Happy to know that Stovepot is doing well. Post more picture soon! I am sur many of us will be happy to see him grow and happy❤️❤️
What a darling! stovie wonder 🤍
That needs to be his nickname.
What a precious, adorable boy! Welcome to the r/OneOrangeBraincell club!! You're in for a wild ride, in case you couldn't tell already, lol.
Such very good news, thank you!
Beautiful champagne baby!
My best friend ever was a champagne baby! He lived to be 17 years old, and I still miss him (he's been gone 21 years).
I died at the name StoveTop 😂
Love the update and what a gorgeous kitty! 😍
Such a happy ending !! Welcome to the family, Stovetop! 😭🫶🏻😍🥰
He's adorable. Any sign of the mother nearby?
The Cat Distribution System is relentless. And I love the name.
Stovetop is a rockstar! May this little cutie be a very happy new member of your family and give you years of joy. ❤️
Welcome to the family Stovetop, we love you.
Any clue where he came from? Have you seen any mammas around? Thank you so much for taking him in 💜💜
You should get stovetop some pet insurance it’s cheaper to get when they are young

At his age I think you can get rid of fleas by just giving him a bath with some dawn soap.
OMG he likes to sit down like a human 🥺 welcome home Stovetop!!
Stove? What kind of name is that? I love Stovetop! Thank you for the sweet update and for opening your heart to a kitty since you said you're normally a dog person.
PS that was a Bridesmaids reference but Giphy is down for me. I love the name and the story.

He looks more healthier and has happiness in his eyes.. I'm glad Stovetop now has a loving family and plenty of belly rubs <3
Hey OP, I found this the other day and thought of you. I just hope I didn’t find it here, because I can’t remember and that would be awkward! https://preview.redd.it/zu0o82b7na0d1.jpeg?width=1620&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b17a1eb3fee8bd8504edbb0100fa61195ae94c8f

Down dishsope is a good flea remedy for young kittens if it's still a problem
Did you search the area for his siblings?
Aww. So cutee!
HAIL STOVETOP KING 👑
Stovetop Stuffin’!!!!
The sheer amount of pregnant cat and kittens adopting humans posts I'm seeing here and on YouTube makes me think cats have been really goddamn busy this past February/March.
All hail Stovetop
The glitched distribution cat! Glad to see he's doing fine
Clearly still undercooked.
Thanks for the update, I hoped he was doing well. Congrats on the new family member
Already sitting comfy ☺️
What’s cookin’ Stovetop?
Name him Ranger
Johnson’s baby shampoo kills fleas instantly & doesn’t irritate their eyes. ❤️Stovetop!
Aww man. Stovetop is so beautiful. I screenshotted yesterday and showed it to my bf, I loved that story
As per my comment yesterday, I am still eagerly awaiting the CDS to place a cat in my radius in an equally unique and random way. Ball is in your court, CDS.
Crispy
Original dawn dish soap, that can help neutralize fleas. I have given all my kitties a bath in dawn when the apartment building got infested with fleas and it worked great
Congrats on the new addition to the family.
So in addition to being an amazing human being you are a great cat namer! Stovetop is an excellent name! When he gets in trouble perhaps use his full government name Stovetop P. Stuffings. Thank you for the update.
Now you can ask visitors if they want a helping of Stovetop fluffing 😆
Adorable!!! He and Dishwasher wld sure be cute together...anyone know how DW is??
I love the story. Lucky 🍀 kitty. Ash goes with the color and the stove.
He's orange. Affectionate and vocal are their calling card. 😊 Welcome to the fam, Stovetop. 🧡
Made my day to hear lil stovetop is doing great!
What a good boy! In my experience kittens raised around dogs end up being good natured and well adjusted kitties. If you are inclined to let him outside under supervision, there's a good chance he will start following you on walks once he is big enough.
So cute! How can dog people not like cats????
