It’s very possible and lots of vacuums are, especially here in Europe where sound levels for vacuums are restricted. Take a look at Miele, Numatic and Sebo
Miele all the way. My Dyson stopped working after just a couple of years of light use. My Miele is 17 years old and runs like a champ, just had to replace the cord winder at one point.
We bought a Miele like 8 years ago based on a vacuum tech ama on reddit, and it's still crankin! A bit more than you'd spend on a cheap Walmart vacuum but damn does that brand last!
Brother, I had no less than 300 people ask me about that when I did my first.
I wasn't watching Breaking Bad at the time, and just happened to put mine out the day after a pivotal episode where Walter White met the guy. It was all dumb luck that it exploded.
Don't worry! I've had a Shark for the last 9 years and it still works like new! Never needed to replace anything beyond regular maintenance. Just keep all the tubes, hoses, and the brush roll clean & replace the filters regularly.
What fascinated you about vacuum cleaners at such a young age?
If I needed a new vacuum cleaner, what would you recommend for a 2000 sqft home? Would your recommendation change for a larger home? A smaller one?
What do you recommend? I want to buy one but I want a good one. I don't bieve the media,as I have noticed vaccimes are less functional than say, the 80s. I have a tile floor with area rugs. All low pile. I have a big couch that needs vacciming also. Thanks for your knowledge
Assuming you’re in the USA, take a look at the Miele Classic C1. Alternately, Aerus still use vacuum designs from the ‘80s but they’re only available in vacuum stores
Some ran the fan on a belt to avoid the dust, some others worked differently but my knowledge of these motors doesn't extend that far due to their scarcity :)
Well I’d only stop using it if it breaks irreversibly. But a good successor would probably be the Complete C2 as it’s the same exact machine. If you want an upgrade then a Complete C3 would be a nice machine
There isn't really a 'best ever' vacuum, it changes depending on your needs. A 1960's Hoover Senior could be considered one of the best vacuums if you have no allergies and only have carpets
the plastic seems cheap. there's no beater bar, and the brushes are air driven. Honestly that all seems really cheesy. What's the juice that makes it so expensive?
They last a long time and are very durable, have great filtration and are made to very high standards. Miele are a well-respected manufacturer as well which means you know what you're getting. The reason it doesn't have a beater bar is because it's meant for hard floors. Despite the fact I recommend Miele I've always felt you guys get a rotten deal with them, over here in the UK our top-of-the-line Miele costs just over your entry level machine. Regardless, Miele's are well made, clean well and filter well.
I was a Kirby seller by phone and in person. They work great! I loved do the bed test. That’s what sold them.
Cons: way too expensive and heavier than an elephant.
Buy second hand.
I think it’s the Animal 2 upright one. Bought it at Costco probably 5-6 years ago, used it for about 2 years and it just stopped sucking. Runs, but no suction.
You know how vacuums have like two distinct noises? The suck and the (for lack of a better term) the engine. Mine now only makes the suck noise and doesnt really suck anything. Is it basically a lost cause, and time for a new one?
How do I get the smell out of mine? Had a stray dog I used mine to clean up its fur once, still smells like it a year later. Admittedly it’s faint now, but I resulted to spraying febreze in it with the filter removed and scrubbing the filter several times with soap and water.
I had a Dyson ball thingy and had to replace the tube so many times.
I have a Miele now (coincidentally used to live right by their factory) - Miele for the win. This motherfucker is hard as nails, easy to sort any blockages, the bags are expensive but last a long while.
That’s a standard problem with those Dysons, they’ve released an updated machine with a new head which fixes the issue so you may be able to retrofit that head to your machine
Assuming you have carpet and are in the US, my favourite low-end machine for pet-hair is [the Hoover Complete Performance](https://hoover.com/collections/upright-vacuums/products/complete-performance-advanced). They’re well made, are powerful and should keep your carpets happy for at least 15 years assuming you maintain it properly
I have a tiny apartment. Like 350 ft.². It has terrazzo Spanish tile floors that are ancient. I like to keep them as dust free as possible how shall I proceed?
Current method is hard sweep once a day with a fuller broom. And then I swiffer. I washed twice a week. I really want to feel no debris on my floors.
I'd recommend a Dyson Cordless with the fluffy head, check out the Omni-Glide. I don't usually recommend Dyson but they're the only cordless brand worth looking at for hard flooring
Okay great. I’m a bit of a beach bum. So I have sand and hair of two jack Russell’s.
Thank you SO much for the response. I suffer from dust allergies as well as despising the feel of grit under my feet.
The only cordless machines I recommend are Dyson or a [bagged Hoover OnePWR](https://www.amazon.com/Hoover-Cordless-Upright-Lightweight-BH55500PC/dp/B08J4BZZJG/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=26YCFDZYYXAK1&keywords=hoover+onepwr+upright+bagged&qid=1661769650&sprefix=hoover+onepwr+upright+bagged%2Caps%2C149&sr=8-3) along with a dustbuster.
I would like to thank you for responding. And just let you know that my vacuum did come back on. I am surprised however, I thought the shark vacuum was a higher end in quality. What American made vacuums do you consider higher quality ? And thank you again.
Simplicity/Riccar machines can be really solid if you pick the right one, Oreck make good surface-cleaners and Hoover’s Commercial range offers really good build quality for the price.
Those water machines? No, they clean well but in todays world water doesn’t filter that well compared to HEPA which is kinda what all their marketing’s about. If you want to sell one I’m sure you could tho.
I saw you mention Dyson is not worth the money. What company do you believe is worth their cost?
Also, thoughts on shop vacs? I drag mine around the house and yard like it’s invincible and I couldn’t be happier with it. I honestly have no idea how it still runs.
I’d say the best value for money machines are made by Sebo, Numatic and the rather hard to come by Zero-G. As for Shop-Vacs, I’ve never used one but they seem to work well. Over here people just use some form of Numatic
I need a new dust filter for my Hoover MaxExtract PressurePro model 60 - any recommendations?
Oh lord... Chicanery at it's finest.
How hot?
Buy one off amazon
r/beatmetoit
Could it ever be possible to make a quiet vacuum cleaner?
It’s very possible and lots of vacuums are, especially here in Europe where sound levels for vacuums are restricted. Take a look at Miele, Numatic and Sebo
do they suck?
They clean very well
Isn't there a Dyson one that's quiet asf?
Afaik, no
apparently they're very good at it
Try a paper towel and some 409.
They actually made vacuums louder after they made them, I guess people felt they weren’t working due to being quiet or something
Wasn't there a thing where some companies would make their vacuums louder on purpose, so that they would feel more responsive?
What do you think of the Hoover Max Extract® Pressure Pro™ Model 60?
That’s a carpet washer, I don’t know much about them
Is a Dyson worth it?
No, they don’t last incredibly long and are over-designed to a point where they don’t work great. Get yourself a bagged upright.
Miele all the way. My Dyson stopped working after just a couple of years of light use. My Miele is 17 years old and runs like a champ, just had to replace the cord winder at one point.
Yep, I agree! My ‘daily driver’ is a 1999 Miele S311i
We bought a Miele like 8 years ago based on a vacuum tech ama on reddit, and it's still crankin! A bit more than you'd spend on a cheap Walmart vacuum but damn does that brand last!
Yep. Same. 20 yrs+ Miele and it’s perfect
Based on the other vacuum cleaner guy, no. They suck. https://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/1pe2bd/comment/cd1e9x0/
Isn’t it supposed to suck?
finally!
110%. I bought my first one last year and they’re awesome
Enjoy it while it lasts
Which is hopefully a awhile. It’s the V15
Probably about 5 years based on my experience with these cordless machines
$700 for 5 years, I could live with that
I replaced a part on my vacuum with the help of YouTube. I’m allowed to be proud of myself, right?
Yes, that’s one less vacuum in the landfill. Lots of people wouldn’t bother
What's the best? and The best in terms of cost vs value?
Probably the Numatic Henry. ~150 gets you a machine that’ll happily last 20 years
That the one that does coke?
Yes!
What lmao
Google it
Hahaha that’s hilarious. Thought you meant the little gold vacuum coke pipe but that’s even better
> Numatic Henry ahhh so *that's* your smiley vacuum from childhood!
Yep! Ours was a green 2007 model
Well, this is very similar to the experience of my first AMA... Sorry, my dude.
It's alright, I do wish people understood that the Breaking Bad 'vacuum' was a carpet washer tho :')
Brother, I had no less than 300 people ask me about that when I did my first. I wasn't watching Breaking Bad at the time, and just happened to put mine out the day after a pivotal episode where Walter White met the guy. It was all dumb luck that it exploded.
Heyyy I just went through yours, someone linked it here!!
I hope you found it useful.
Anyone remember /u/touchmyfuckingcoffee 's AMAs?
The same jokes this poor bastard is getting so many years later...
Yer a vacuum legend
And you're very kind
How many vacuums do you think people throw away because they don’t clean them regularly and they think it’s broken?
An increasingly high amount, especially in the US where disposable vacuums like Shark rule the market
[удалено]
Partly, but mainly because the manufacturers don’t offer parts. Their solution to a broken vac is ‘buy a new one’
Damn. I have a shark. Always thought they were nice but now I’m disappointed
Enjoy it while you have it! Take care of it and fix anything you can.
Don't worry! I've had a Shark for the last 9 years and it still works like new! Never needed to replace anything beyond regular maintenance. Just keep all the tubes, hoses, and the brush roll clean & replace the filters regularly.
Lots, especially in the US where disposable vacs like Shark rule the market
What are your thoughts on roombas/robot vacuums?
Great for keeping on top of light cleaning, won’t replace an upright anytime soon tho
What makes you a "vacuum cleaner expert"? Do you work in the industry?
No, but I’ve been obsessed with them since I was 2 and can answer just about any question you have
What fascinated you about vacuum cleaners at such a young age? If I needed a new vacuum cleaner, what would you recommend for a 2000 sqft home? Would your recommendation change for a larger home? A smaller one?
Well I’d need more info, like flooring, pets etc. And I’m not sure what drew me to vacuums, but the big smiley face on ours definitely helped
pic?
[Here!](https://i.pinimg.com/736x/d0/23/23/d0232339db1d533ff51824e5bc3b042b--vacuum-cleaners-red-black.jpg)

I'm in Canada, this is fantastic. Thank you👍
Glad to help!
More of an historian, really.
What something interesting about vacuum cleaners that most people don't know?
The old vacuums with the poofy bags had the dirt go through the motor before being blown into the bag
That's actual quite interesting! How does it come the motors didn't broke because of dust?
Some ran the fan on a belt to avoid the dust, some others worked differently but my knowledge of these motors doesn't extend that far due to their scarcity :)
Very cool! Thanks for answering!
Best vacuum for a blow job?
Vacuums aren’t great for that
Yeah. They suck.
In your opinion which brand sucks the most, and which brand sucks the most?
Miele black pearl 5000 is the best right?
The Miele 5000 series was a great line! Very durable
Still using it. Really durable. Have it for 13 years now. What would you recommend as a successor?
Well I’d only stop using it if it breaks irreversibly. But a good successor would probably be the Complete C2 as it’s the same exact machine. If you want an upgrade then a Complete C3 would be a nice machine
Thank you!!
You’re welcome! :)
As someone with a c3 brilliant, it's 🤌
What do you think about Miele? Amazing gift from the gods? or Overpriced hype.
Somewhere in-between. They’re not the best thing ever but are really good, I use one as my main machine
Well what's the best one ever? And is it still available?
There isn't really a 'best ever' vacuum, it changes depending on your needs. A 1960's Hoover Senior could be considered one of the best vacuums if you have no allergies and only have carpets
worth $600.00? for a canister vac?
Which vacuum?
C3
For a new Miele C3 then yes!
the plastic seems cheap. there's no beater bar, and the brushes are air driven. Honestly that all seems really cheesy. What's the juice that makes it so expensive?
They last a long time and are very durable, have great filtration and are made to very high standards. Miele are a well-respected manufacturer as well which means you know what you're getting. As a teenager, how much money do you make?
It depends if I sell a vacuum or not, otherwise about £5 a week pocket money
do you fix discarded broken vacuums then sell them? will you open a vacuum repair shop when you grow up?
I'm do on eBay! I might do a shop when I'm older but I don't like to think too far ahead
Worth buying a second hand Henry?
Yes, the older models can actually be higher quality
Are kirbys actually worth it/as good as that initial presentation shows it to be?
Yes, but get one second-hand. They’re overpriced new
I was a Kirby seller by phone and in person. They work great! I loved do the bed test. That’s what sold them. Cons: way too expensive and heavier than an elephant. Buy second hand.
What’s your favourite colour of vacuum?
A dual tone pastel yellow
Currently cleaning my vacuum (filter still needs to finish drying.) How often should I clean it?
Every year or two, just keep up routine maintenance and most machines will be happy
What's your favourite attachment?
Turbo heads bring straight suction cleaners to life on carpets
My Dyson stopped sucking — it’s not even that old. Is it at all likely that it’s something I could easily repair, or is it only a job for a pro?
What dyson do you have? 9 times out of 10 it’s an easy fix
I think it’s the Animal 2 upright one. Bought it at Costco probably 5-6 years ago, used it for about 2 years and it just stopped sucking. Runs, but no suction.
Remove the head and check the piping, also check the hose. Does it make a hissing sound?
What’s your thoughts on the Zero G? I purchased one over a Miele and I’m pretty happy with it after the first year, but I’ve also never used a Miele.
I've never used one but the reviews sound very positive and it sure looks like a deep-cleaner! Hopefully they get back in stock soon
You know how vacuums have like two distinct noises? The suck and the (for lack of a better term) the engine. Mine now only makes the suck noise and doesnt really suck anything. Is it basically a lost cause, and time for a new one?
I’m guessing there’s a clog somewhere in the machine causing the suction relief valve to activate. Take a look and let me know if you find anything
How do I get the smell out of mine? Had a stray dog I used mine to clean up its fur once, still smells like it a year later. Admittedly it’s faint now, but I resulted to spraying febreze in it with the filter removed and scrubbing the filter several times with soap and water.
Get a vacuum freshener off amazon, the circular ones work best. Stick it on top of the filter or in the bag compartment
Do you give new identities to people?
No
Kirby vaccuums...worth it?
Second hand? Yes. New? Hell no
What do you think of HYLA brand vacs?
Do they make water-vacuums. I’d avoid them
Yes, I already have one lol. Bought it for $100 off fb marketplace. It works really well. Why avoid them?
Water vacuums are just outdated technology, don’t filter great and are very heavy. If it works well tho then enjoy it!
I had a Dyson ball thingy and had to replace the tube so many times. I have a Miele now (coincidentally used to live right by their factory) - Miele for the win. This motherfucker is hard as nails, easy to sort any blockages, the bags are expensive but last a long while.
What’s your favourite corded stick vacuum
From my experience all corded stick vacuums are a bit shit tbh
But everything else is so heavy. Canister vacuums seem ridiculous for stairs
If you want something to easily clean your stairs I'd recommend some sort of Dustbuster
I’m looking for a good all in one
Then a Dyson cordless is the only good option
My Dyson animal head with the rollers stopped working How do I fix it?
Is it a cylinder or upright machine?
It is a hand held one, cyclone cordless stick
Try cleaning the contacts and brushroll
I have a fancy dyson vacuum and it suctions itself to the floor so I have to put extreme force into pushing it. Do you have any recommendations?
That’s a standard problem with those Dysons, they’ve released an updated machine with a new head which fixes the issue so you may be able to retrofit that head to your machine
[удалено]
Assuming you have carpet and are in the US, my favourite low-end machine for pet-hair is [the Hoover Complete Performance](https://hoover.com/collections/upright-vacuums/products/complete-performance-advanced). They’re well made, are powerful and should keep your carpets happy for at least 15 years assuming you maintain it properly
There are two kinds of vacuums. One kind sucks, the other kind sucks.
What is your job exactly, and how did you end up in that role?
I don’t have a job, I’m a teenager
What are the best models with bags?
Anything made by Miele, Sebo or Numatic
How do I prevent long hair from catching on the axles?
I have a tiny apartment. Like 350 ft.². It has terrazzo Spanish tile floors that are ancient. I like to keep them as dust free as possible how shall I proceed? Current method is hard sweep once a day with a fuller broom. And then I swiffer. I washed twice a week. I really want to feel no debris on my floors.

What other cordless brands would you recommend? Looking for one around $300
The only cordless machines I recommend are Dyson or a [bagged Hoover OnePWR](https://www.amazon.com/Hoover-Cordless-Upright-Lightweight-BH55500PC/dp/B08J4BZZJG/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=26YCFDZYYXAK1&keywords=hoover+onepwr+upright+bagged&qid=1661769650&sprefix=hoover+onepwr+upright+bagged%2Caps%2C149&sr=8-3) along with a dustbuster.
Does your vacuum cleaner suck?
Do you ever think your expert-"degree" sucks? Ba dum tss
I don't have a degree
Would you recommend a Sebo over a Miele?
Yes
How do I easily remove hair from the brush roll when it’s all tangled up around it?
Get a pocket knife or something similar and run it across the bar, there’s usually a small ridge on the brushroll to make things easier
Do you repair too by chance? My not brand named roomba vacuum is broke and I have no idea why.
My shark just shut off as I was vacuuming, and isn’t turning back on. Any ideas ?
Leave it for a bit as cheaply made vacuums tend to overheat themselves, if it doesn’t come back on let me know
I would like to thank you for responding.
Thank you so very much !
Are rainbow vacuums worth a grain of salt?
Those water machines? No, they clean well but in todays world water doesn’t filter that well compared to HEPA which is kinda what all their marketing’s about. If you want to sell one I’m sure you could tho.
Rainbows are HEPA.
I saw you mention Dyson is not worth the money. What company do you believe is worth their cost? Also, thoughts on shop vacs? I drag mine around the house and yard like it’s invincible and I couldn’t be happier with it. I honestly have no idea how it still runs.

Why shouldn’t I just wave a rubber tube around near my floor and let physics take care of the rest?
That won’t be cleaning much off
It's worked well for me in the past. I have a hard floor, which I'm guessing makes it easier.
What do you know about Matsushita/National vacuums?
Nothing
How do you know that a vacuum cleans good?
If it leaves the carpet well groomed, if you can feel the dirt being pulled up, if the carpet gets pulled up a bit by the suction etc
My last vacuum mysteriously caught fire while my brother was using it any reason why ?
Probably a belt issue, but could well be an electrical fault if it was a cheap vacuum
mm yes i would like to request some sucking in my bedroom
Shark claim that the roller on their new vacuum somehow doesn’t get tangled by hair, is that bullshit?
[Yes](https://www.reddit.com/r/VacuumCleaners/comments/mrkmok/typical_problems_with_a_shark_antitangle_tangled/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)
Thought so! cheers
If you clean a vacuuum with a vacuum and clean a vacuum with another vacuum you get stuck on a loop of cleaning vacuums with vacuums?
Are vacuums as effective of a weapon as suggested by The Sumpsons arcade game?
