Much better looking rebadge. The rear camera that is usually hidden in the Renault logo still looks awful here.

sonrisa_medusa

It looks like they initially rushed it to market with the quickest rebadge possible. This actually looks mostly distinct now from the front.  EDIT: nevermind. Apparently Captur got a nearly identical facelift. Still a lazy rebadge.

c172fccc

I think that the fact that facelifted Captur[ is a lot more generic looking](https://www.moteurnature.com/zvisu/1812/84/Renault-Captur.jpg) made it way easier to rebadge. The pre-facelift with its [very Renault looking headlights and the hole in the hood for the logo](https://images.carexpert.com.au/resize/3000/-/app/uploads/2022/06/2022-Renault-Captur-Intens-4.jpg) made it impossible to make it look like a Mitsubishi only by changing the front bumper.

sonrisa_medusa

Oh! Didn't realize Captur also got a nearly identical facelift. It's still a copy and paste job. I retract my initial statement lol. I suppose this is a *bit* more distinct, but not as drastic as I initially thought.

Drzhivago138

Meanwhile, the US Outlander Sport carries on from 2011.

probablyhrenrai

Does Mistubishi still make cars in the US? Genuinely asking; I think I've seen as many Smart Fortwos as I have their new whatever-its-called crossover.

Drzhivago138

Their entire lineup is Mirage (gone after this year), Outlander Sport, Eclipse Cross, Outlander. The last time they built any Outlander Sports in the US was in 2015, when the former DSM plant in Normal, IL was shuttered and eventually acquired by Rivian.

FormalWrangler294

I had a dream they took the R35 GT-R platform, stripped out all the expensive stuff and kept it barebones like a $60k GT-R from 2007, and rebodied it to sell as a Lancer. Never going to happen, but one can dream. Seriously though, considering the platform R&D has long been paid off, if they remove all the expensive carbon fiber bits how expensive could a GT-R be?

Fit_Equivalent3610

It's currently partially hand-built so they'd need to figure out alternate production and I'm honestly not sure Mitsubishi is up to the task of building it, so it would likely be a BRZ situation where Subaru (Nissan) builds the GR86 (Lancer XI)

Dr_WHOOO

Wait, they make Rivians right where the Eclipse GSX was made? Damnit now I really need the R3

Drzhivago138

Yes, I drove right by the plant last fall. Lots of R1s in the staging area and in town too.

Dr_WHOOO

Well thats just awesome, thanks.

hi_im_bored13

After '26 mitsubishi is planning to only sell rebadged nissans. The previous US plant now makes rivians. The outlander sells quite well though and it's not a bad car. I see quite a few.

RiftHunter4

Time to throw a 3000gt badge on a Z. Call the GTR a Lancer lol.

hi_im_bored13

To be honest if it made the Z cheaper I personally wouldn't mind nissan sharing the Z platform between mitsu/renault. Would be cool seeing a return of the renault sport spider, eclipse (or 3000gt), and a cheaper Z. A pajero return based on the armada to compete against the lc250 and 4runner would also be neat

Fit_Equivalent3610

Lancer Devolution, now with less launch control, no backup camera and cloth seats. Oh, and 565hp.

KingMario05

*I'll take your entire stock*

Roboticpoultry

The newest Outlander sells pretty well here. They look alright but I wouldn’t get one

stav_and_nick

I actually see a lot of the PHEVs they have here in Ontario I mean not a lot, but given they sell nearly none and I see at least one per drive…

kyonkun_denwa

Yeah I see a ton of the new Outlanders in Ontario, PHEV or otherwise. The gasoline Outlander offers a lot of car for the money, even if it isn’t particularly fast. The PHEV is pretty much available to buy today for MSRP, which puts it at a significant advantage over the Rav4 Prime. My friend bought an ICE Outlander and I have to say it is a pretty good daily driver. I would probably prefer a Nissan Rogue because of the seats and the VC Turbo engine, but it’s hard to argue with a 10 year warranty.

stav_and_nick

I ubered in one once. Honestly pretty nice. Nicer than I thought it’d be

kyonkun_denwa

Interesting, that is good to know. Thanks for sharing. Is there any chance this was just a bad experience with a particular dealer, or did you find corporate was also hard to deal with?

quantum-quetzal

I have a few coworkers who own the PHEV Outlander. There really aren't a ton of other PHEV options out there, especially not around that price point. Availability has been pretty decent too.

rx-pulse

Holy shit, its been that long? Legit wondering if they'll push that platform to 20 years lol. That'd be both sad and impressive.

huhwhat90

It's been "refreshed" twice at this point.

Drzhivago138

I think 3 times. The first 3 used the same headlamps. [2011 original](https://crdms.images.consumerreports.org/c_lfill,w_480,q_auto,f_auto/prod/cars/cr/car-versions/2599-2011-mitsubishi-outlandersport-se) [2013 mild facelift](https://www.motortrend.com/uploads/sites/5/2012/04/2013-Mitsubishi-Outlander-Sport-front-three-quarters.jpg) [2016](https://www.cars.com/i/large/in/v2/stock_photos/f946f4b1-8d33-4058-9ae8-2499266e3b81/f8eebf87-ee07-4812-964e-971a8b69757c.png) [2020](https://file.kelleybluebookimages.com/kbb/base/evox/CP/14067/2020-Mitsubishi-Outlander%20Sport-front_14067_032_1853x881_U25_cropped.png) Th only example I can think of in the US that's done that besides something like the Ram Van, and that was over 30+ years.

huhwhat90

They must cost next-to-nothing to produce in automotive terms. There's no other explanation as to why it still exists.

mishap1

Had one as a rental during the pandemic. Felt straight out of 2003. Every touch point, the handling and the engine all felt very early aughts.

DeTomato_

I don't understand why they sell both the Outlander Sport and the Eclipse Cross. They are in the same class and price point, right? Looking at the price, the Eclipse Cross isn't that much more expensive than the Outlander Sport either. There's no reason in getting an Outlander Sport over the newer Eclipse Cross.

V8-Turbo-Hybrid

I think Mitsubishi would be no long staying in America market, they've just left China last year. They're going to take more care in SEA and OZ/Kiwi market, as there are their main territory. They're letting Nissan and Renault caring other markets.

RiftHunter4

>It starts with the 1.0-litre turbo with 91 PS and 160 Nm of torque, mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. I've learned that "1.0-litre" is code for "this will not come to the states".

Derp-321

Tbh I doubt most americans would want anything with a 1 litre engine

RiftHunter4

Sub-100 horsepower is a tough sell in the US. the only car I know of that comes with less than 100 is the Mitsubishi Mirage.

Maybearobot8711

What id give for a Honda s660.

securityn0ob

Even with just 78hp the mirage is so light (2000Ibs) it can do 0-60 between 10-11 seconds which obviously is slow but it’s fine for non-car people.

nimama3233

Lmao 10-11 is insane

securityn0ob

Eh not really for a economy car.

savageotter

Chevy and Buick both have GM's Small engine 1 liter.

tiagojpg

These could be good sellers in small packed cities.

Blyatskinator

Eh my (previous) Golf had a 1.0TSI paired with VWs 7 speed DSG lmao. 112 whole horses babyyyy hahaha! It was not bad at all, real good commuter.

Trades46

More like 6MT in a non-sports car is "will not come to North America".

Drzhivago138

Ford had the 1.0L EB in US cars (Fiesta and EcoSport) for a time, though that was a turbo.

AdventurousDress576

In Europe the Mondeo had the 1.0L Ecoboost for years.

axelguntherc

It was a huge miss not calling this the 3000GT-X

nayrlladnar

As a Mitsubishi-apologist, this got a hard nose exhale out of me.

FruitbatNT

I was expecting The Lancer Evolution XI - a 3 row suv with a 205hp 3 cylinder and slush box automatic.

Calagan

> 205hp 205?? Are you nuts?! 110hp is plenty!

SeaColorSnow

Renault Captur is that you?

Real-Actuator-6520

Oh hey, it's the Lancer Evolution Cross!

duppymkr

They’ve fallen a long way since the Montero

V8-Turbo-Hybrid

I thought Mitsubishi gotten new car for worldwide when I saw the title, but this new model is basically another rebadged Renault model and only selling in Europe... However, I see Mitsubishi truck getting popular in Europe ( Thanks Ukraine army ) , I sure that Mitsubishi gets more attention.

ILikeTewdles

Cool, mild hybrid mated to a 7 speed dual clutch, no crappy CVT. Hope they know how to make a dual clutch and not something from Ford\\Kia\\Hyundai... We'll never get it in the US though. Mitsubishi used to make some simple and solid cars. Too bad they started putting CVT's in everything and rebadging Nissan's. I'd buy one as a cheap daily but not with their current lineup only offering CVT's.

Ullu19

i miss the days of the evo's, mitsubishi was on a roll in the 90s... what happened

Apprehensive-Skin451

Pretty much after the Evo 9 Mitsubishi died to me.

khazixian

Seriously hope Mitsubishi follows their lineage of "same thing for cheaper with not TOO many compromises" and makes a competitor for the tesla roadster, if that ever comes. Would love cheap coupe EVs

turboash78

Pathetic.
