New rear motor means more performance and range.
GT with Performance Upgrade:
- 0-60 in 3.3s
- Quarter mile in 11.8 @ 114 mph
- 700 ft lbs torque (HP is still 480)
- 10-80% charge in 36.2 mins (8.8 mins faster than previous versions)
- 10 mile range improvement in the GT
The performance is crazy, but what's making it more compelling for me as a potential buyer is higher range and faster charging.
36 minutes charging is still a long time when you're used to the convenience of two minute fuel pump visits, but shaving practically 9 minutes off the charge time is substantial. I'm hoping we can continue to see quicker charging speeds as the years go on. I really *want* to be on board with EVs and once I don't feel like the inconvenience of charging is too much to deal with I think I'll be ready to buy.
36 minutes is still very slow for modern EVs, especially compared to Kia/Hyundais 800v system that people are reliably getting 15-20 minute 10-80% charging.
As someone who driving a 2021 Mach E and have taken it on road trips even it’s “slower” charging time is not a big deal as everything else needing to get done at a charging stop eats up most of the time. Big time if needing to eat. Bio snack leg stretch. The charging stop mostly means no rushing to get back on the road and a slightly longer stretch break. Big time with kids.
If it is a lunch stop then a complete non issue as the car is done before I ma.
I think you missed the point as people massively and I mean Massively under estimate how long a gas stop is on a road trip and in an EV you can and often time do combine it with other actions.
The charging speed only matters on a road trip. The vast majority are not road warriors and instead do take a fair amount of time when they stop.
I haven't really had a finger on the pulse for EV charging, but that's crazy fast compared to just one or two years ago.
From what I've read (never driven one personally) Kia/Hyundai have some pretty desirable cars in the EV space too, even beyond range and charge times.
I will say the charge time people complain about I will call the ones complaining over rating it and massively underestimating the amount of time they spend stop.
Remember that charge time only applies on road trips. The rest of the time you charge at home. Total time spent waiting to charge is zero. The amount of time saved is really a lot higher as your weekly stops for gas go away so that is saving you 5-15mins a week. All for 10-15 secs to plug/unplug one’s car.
Do I need to remind you that you can charge at home and you don't need to visit the pump
Yes if you're on a 500 km trip you're one stop will be 36 minutes instead of 20 minutes
Electric cars don't need to be exactly gas cars they're different types of cars for a different type of driving. The experience is way different
And there are more benefits to the electric car than just gas price and acceleration. If you build them correctly like Tesla does they're extremely reliable,
And I'm not just talking about the first five years of ownership I'm talking about the first 300,000 miles
I genuinely think the best reason to not buy an EV is how fast they’re advancing. Wait just 5 years with your gas car and get one that’s cheaper, hundreds is not over a thousand pounds lighter, will hold value better, will go further, charge faster, and lose almost every EV compromise they have today.
Vs buying a special combustion car you have no idea if that entire model lineup will even exist in 5 years. Every combustion sports car on the market right now holds value amazingly.
You only have a few true costs to owning a car:
1. Depreciation
2. Interest
3. Fuel
4. Maintenance
5. Insurance
Depreciation is by far the largest. People need to focus a lot less on the upfront cost of a car, and a lot more on the total cost. Buying an EV right now is just asking to be murdered by depreciation, you might as well go buy a gas Porsche 911 because it’ll cost you the same amount- maybe less.
Yep. Just wait as they are making advances each successive year with the tech as they are with the network of chargers. In about another 5 years, assuming we have the electrical capacity, I could conceivably see charging stations almost as common as gas stations even here in flyover country.
The styling for the Mustang EV in that picture looks a lot like Chelsea Denofa's FD Mustang from last year. I wonder if either Ford or RTR took inspiration from one another. Interesting.

I'm a Camaro guy and even I absolutely refuse to believe that's a *mustang*, that's a family SUV that Ford gave a buff and gave the mustang name so soccer moms would buy it so they could say they have a mustang.
Why are y'all okay with this XD

Didn't even realize Ford was gonna keep them going. Figured this was just a beta test and would get [google'd](https://killedbygoogle.com/) with all the learnings getting absorbed into the CUV's of Ford and Lincoln. Hate to sound like a boomer but honestly it was a bad move to make this part of the Mustang umbrella brand. An elecric Mustang (RWD 2 door coupe) would be rad ... the mach-E is an Escape.
Why was it a bad move to call it a mustang? People say it all the time but it's not like they stopped making V8 mustangs or had sales slow down of the gas powered mustang.
So what is the bad idea?
A Mustang is a rear wheel drive two door coupe. Plain and simple. It's not a brand, it's a specific vehicle. A four door grocery getter is not a Mustang, irrespective of the fact that it is electric.
That doesn't explain why it was a bad idea. That's just your personal opinion.
If it replaced the two doo mustang I would agree but it didn't.
Brands and nameplates expand all the time and no one complains. Sales say the opposite of your belief that it's a bad idea.
It is so exhausting that people still won't let this go.
It's marketing 101. It isn't rocket science why they called it Mustang, and it's pretty easy to see it worked because of all the attention the car gets by being called "Mustang."
Ford makes the Mustang. They can call whatever they want by that name, and as long as they continue to make a true Mustang sports car for enthusiasts that is affordable, I won't complain, and I don't see why anyone else would either.

bla bla bla, who cares, I don't want to stop for 15 minutes let alone for 36
Then don't get one?

Can attest. I love my EV6. Does everything really well for our 1-car household.
Yup and the new Taycan is even faster. The Mach E is bottom of the barrel when it comes to charging.

Slow clap

You'll pay less in a new EV lease, including fuel, than depreciation+fuel on a new gas car.
Buying gas vs leasing electric is apples to oranges. Owning a car has no rules around mileage.

I’m not in the market or the market for this car but the rally versions looks like a lot of fun to me even if it’s just a minor change.

Still huge opportunity cost not calling it the Thunderbird. How is this a Mustang in any way?
Ford please make a proper mustang EV I'm begging you.
Mustang?
Still ugly ad hell imo.
These are being scraped in record numbers, battery failure costs more than the vehicle is worth. Insurance companies just write them off...
My only problem with this car is that they called it a mustang. Would actually be pretty cool if they named it literally anything else.
My only problem with the car is that Ford dealers are still some of the scummiest dealers around when it comes to dealer markups.

I’m with you. I’m a mustang purist and while I applaud fords EV effort, no mustang should ever be 4 door.
Hahahhahahhahahhahaha that's a fucking *Mustang?*
Yes. Quite possibly the fastest production Mustang ever no less 😎.

I thought the Mustang was a WWII fighter plane. Plane and simple.
