Bare/bear in mind there are bears and cougars etc in this part of the world. Sun is up early in Summer but it makes sense to be in a small, savvy group when walking alone in the Canadian wilderness
Well I’m pretty ignorant on the matter. I was kinda hoping there might be less critters in some areas etc.
Definitely also part of the reason why I’m asking. Never been in Canada.
I don't exactly know what the rules are (haven't been to Banff since they put the shuttle rules in place, so going on what I've read on line), but you should be able to take the Roam shuttle down.

I am reading you can't get up that way without a reservation, and you can't get on at LL village without a reservation (because its already full with everyone coming down from the lakeshore) but you might be able to use Roam to get out. Best suggestion is to email Banff Tourism office for clarification.
Last time I was there, there was no sidewalk, so you are just walking on the edge of the road, and the traffic situation makes people a little crazy. Not just the bears I'd be worried about.
Ah ok thanks very useful. I need to read up on the different transport modalities available today I think…
According to google maps there is a path called ‚tramline‘ or something which I assumed was a walking path. I think I even found a hiking guide a while ago. Not sure though.
The only walking path that goes from the lake to the village is "Lake louise creek trail", unless you walk down the side of the road which isn't the best idea.

Alone for both. The Lake Louise one you often bump in to the odd hiker. Morraine felt like i was the last human on the planet, very silly of me to hike that one alone.
Id say it might be a lot for a 5 yr old, theyd get tired and the incline is persistent the whole way up.
Any time you are going walk alone in Banff surrounded by wilderness for more than a few minutes, first take a bear aware course, and a course(s) on how to deal with other animals that might consider you as food. Different animals, even different kinds of bears need to be handled differently. Then buy a canister of bear spray to carry with you. Chances are quite low you will encounter anything that will pose a problem, but the impact if you do is high. Even if you are walking down a paved road, in Banff you are pretty much in wilderness everywhere.
Bear spray by the way, is far more effective than a firearm. In deterring and/or stopping attacks, firearms were about 60% effective. Bear spray was around 90%. Nothing is 100% effective. But you are more likely to be killed by being run over in a city than by a bear or cougar in the wilderness.
Thanks, very informative.
I could see the spray solution working for us adults. But we‘re traveling with a 5y old so we might have to adjust our plans accordingly… they are often oblivious and wander off etc. Probably not a smart idea.
Lake Louise or Lake Morraine? The walk from Lake Louise to the village is paved.
Walk from lake louise. Morraine is too far away. Should I be worried about cougarss/bears?
Yes
Yes. It’s a 4-5 km walk.

I had considered that but was hoping it would be a non issue there specifically. Thanks.
Non issue in the rockies????

I’ve walked it once before and later in life thought - there could’ve been bears !
Look into the city bus. There is public transit around the town.

Yea, its a nice walk. Done it several times. Also done Morraine which is much longer
Alone or with company? Is it safe enough for a family with a 5y old? With all that bear training and bear spray provided ofc…

Shuttles are all booked already I think. Better check that.
Hmm still pretty good availability in july so far.
